Dedication Service
On Sunday 26th October at 3.30pm there will be a short
dedications service for Rebecca Grace, daughter of Kathryn
and Richard Fearn and Granddaughter of Anne and Malcolm.
We will be welcoming Rebecca into the family of the church
and hope that some of the Church Family will be present to
support Kathryn & Richard.
Beechcroft Residential Home
We have been asked by Beechcroft Residential Home if we are
able to provide a short service of say half an hour on a regular
basis for their residents either at approx 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. on a
weekday. We would like to respond positively to this request
but would require a leader/co-ordinator and a team willing to
commit to this on a regular basis. If you would be willing to
help, want further information, or have some suggestions,
please speak to Gill or Dick. A piano is available but they’re
not sure how well tuned it is!
“It’s new – is it for you?”
Make a note in your diary for the third Tuesday of each
month when there will be ‘Tea and Toast’ between 10.30
and 12 noon in the Friendship Room – the first being
21st October. Why not come along for a drink and
Toast/Teacake (£1) (marmalade and jam also available),
a chat with friends – maybe invite someone to come with
you? The Church will also be open if you wish to ‘pop in’
for a prayer or just sit quietly. We hope to see you there
– Anne, Gill and Joan
There will be a Pastoral Meeting in the Friendship Room
on the 22nd October at 7.30pm.
We still need volunteers for Coffee after service on 2nd,
16th and 23rd November – please see Gill if you can
help.
Coffee will be served after the Service
Young People’s House Group is for 12 year-olds
upwards. Everyone welcome to share music, prayers, food,
fun, games, questions, readings, ideas – come along and join us
at the home of Andy and Joanne Watts, 6 The Crescent,
Stanley Common (Tel 930 9248) Mondays 7.30-9pm; 17th
Nov, 15th Dec.
Card and Craft Group
Next meeting 20th October at 1.30pm in the Friendship Room
when we will be silk painting Christmas cards; if you have not
tried this before come along and have a go! All materials will
be provided at a small charge. Please let Sheila know if you
will be attending
More information about the group from Sheila Froggatt.
STORY CAFÉ achieves success!
Our first “Story Café” on 10th October attracted an audience of
approx 60 to hear guest artist John Pickering, a Singer,
Songwriter, Author and Poet from Chesterfield, share the story
of his life. Through his chat, lively humour and songs John
kept the audience enthralled and entertained as he told how
God had made a real difference. The Church was transformed
into a café/cabaret venue with cake, cookies and crisps along
with hot and cold drinks on sale. Free nibbles were provided
on the tables; there was free entry with donations towards the
costs invited. The donations received covered the costs and
will help towards planning the next Story Café which should be
in March next year after the Church’s annual Pantomime.
Coffee Morning at St Andrew’s Ilkeston West Hallam
has been allocated Saturday 1st November to host the Coffee
Morning. If you are able to help please speak to John and Rita.
Crossroads Coffee Bar next opens on 3rd
November at 7.00pm in the Friendship Room
when the evening will include a Quiz.
Joyce and Sheila will be organising an Afternoon Tea and
Entertainment including a tribute to the WW1 centenary on
Saturday 8th November at 2pm Everyone is welcome
There will be a small charge to cover expenses. Booking is
essential. Please book with Joyce on 930 9406.
Do you want to learn more about membership,
understand what it means, or become a ‘formal member’
of our Church? Membership in our Church is part of our
response to God and following his call to be his Disciple.
If you are interested please contact me by the end of
October and then I can arrange for either a group or
individual conversations as appropriate. Dick Styles
Thank You!
Beryl and friends would like to thank all who supported the
Macmillan Coffee Morning held on 26th September. The sum
of £881.00 was raised.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
CLEANING
We are again supporting the Christmas ‘Operation Christmas
Child’ appeal. We are asking for donated items, shoeboxes and
donations of money to help with postage. Helen Press is coordinating the project and has lists of items that are suitable for
including in the gift boxes. The aim is to organise an evening
event in early November where we will remind ourselves about
the charity and where the gifts go, and also where we will wrap the
shoe boxes in Christmas paper.
Please support this project in any way that you can - the gift boxes
make such a difference to children who would not normally
receive a gift at Christmas. If preferred, you can fill your own box
and bring it to the Dedication Service on 16th November. A
leaflet with labels and instructions are available from Helen.
The new Rota for cleaning the Hall and Kitchen etc is on the
Notice Board in the Foyer. We are still not covering every
week and the Hall is used frequently. If you are unable to
commit regularly could you consider filling in occasionally?
Dates for your Diary
Sheila and Joyce are planning another Craft Session with
Crafts for Christmas” on Saturday 15th November 9-30am to
1-30pm. They would welcome any suggestions for crafts old
and new. There will be a small charge to cover refreshments
and materials. Book with Sheila on 930 8878.
Also they will be selling Christmas gift wrap and bows on that
day and later at Church – all profit to the Church
Together for Advent
On Sunday November 30th there will be no service at West
Hallam but we will meet at Scargill School to celebrate Advent
with all the Covenant churches of West Hallam, Stanley,
Stanley Common and Mapperley.
