6 CROSBY-IRONTON COURIER Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014 For the record Police stop rumble between C-I and Brainerd youth The Crosby Police Department handled approximately 80 calls between Oct. 6 and 12. Officers responded to the following calls: On Oct. 6: —An officer responded to the 200 block of First Street SE after receiving a parking complaint. The officer checked the area and observed one described vehicle was no longer there. The officer received registration information on the other vehicle and will attempt contact with owner if possible. —Crow Wing County dispatched an officer along with ambulance on a medical call in a building on East Main Street. An officer responded and assisted. —Crow Wing County dispatched an officer along with ambulance on a medical call at a residence on Heartwood Drive. An officer responded and assisted. One person was transported to CRMC via ambulance. —An officer issued a juvenile male a citation for possession of tobacco on Third Street SW. Report generated and submitted to Crow Wing County Attorney. —Officers received a report from a citizen that their vehicle had been stolen in November of 2013 and they located the vehicle in Brainerd. Details were obtained, a report was started, and officers are investigating. —Officers received information from a citizen that they had received a probable “scam” call where the caller claimed they were going to repossess some property owned by the citizen. Reporting party provided no personal information to the caller. —An officer responded to a medical call along with ambulance at a residence on Third Avenue SW and assisted. One person was transported to CRMC via ambulance. —Officers were advised of a disturbance that had occurred on Poplar Street earlier between two adult males. The officer received details of the incident and names of those involved. The officer spoke with all involved in the situation and advised. —An officer found a 30 miles per hour sign on the ground on Eighth Street NE. Sign was secured and Public Works notified. —While on patrol late in the evening, an officer observed a female dumping some garbage in a business dumpster on Third Avenue NW. The officer identified the female and advised that it is illegal to throw personal garbage in dumpsters or garbage cans owned by other people. On Oct. 7: —An officer received a call reference a child custody dispute between two individuals on West Main Street. The officer initiated a report and is attempting to make contact with those involved to follow up on the incident. —An officer responded to a residence on Third Avenue NE after receiving a call to check the welfare of an individual there. The officer made contact with the person and requested an ambulance to the scene. Ambulance transported the person to CRMC for medical care. —Officers received a call reference a campaign sign being placed on public property on the 400 block of Oak Street. The officer checked the mapping system and determined the sign was not on private property. Sign was removed, candidate notified, and sign was provided back to an individual who assisted the candidate. —An officer responded on a medical call along with ambulance to a business on East Main Street and assisted. —An officer responded to a theft/shoplifting call at a business on East Main Street. The officer received details of the incident, loss information, and the officer issued a citation to suspect for theft. Investigation and reports continuing to be processed. —An officer responded to Answers First Street SE after receiving a call of an illegally parked vehicle there. The officer received registered owner information to advise, and generated a report. —Officers received a report of a bike that had been stolen from a juvenile male on Third Avenue SW. The bike was located a while later, but had been severely damaged. Suspect information received, report started, and the officer is investigating for criminal charges against known suspects. —A citizen turned in a purse found in Crosby Memorial Park on Serpent Lake to the Crosby Police Department. Owner was located and purse returned. —An officer responded to an alarm call at a business on West Main Street. The officer made contact with employees inside who had accidentally tripped the alarm. All was okay. —An officer received a report of a domestic disturbance and possible assault that occurred on Daisy Avenue. The officer spoke with the victim and the suspect involved and received details of what had occurred. The officer is continuing to investigate incident to determine if it warrants criminal charges. On Oct. 8: —At approximately 1:45 a.m. officers responded to a residence on Third Avenue NE along with ambulance on a medical call and assisted. One person was transported to CRMC via ambulance. —Officers received a report of a disturbance that occurred on a school bus earlier. Details of the incident were obtained and the officer made contact with the two juveniles involved along with a parent, advising all of appropriate behavior on a school bus. —Officers received a report of a vehicle parked in a “residential parking only” area on the 200 block of First Street SE. Officer located the vehicle and issued a written warning. —Officers received a report of a male who was at several businesses on East Main Street causing disturbances and harassing employees. An officer located the male on Cross Avenue and East Main Street, identifying him as Terry Donald Carlson, 50, with no current address. Carlson was subsequently placed under arrest for Public Nuisance (disturbing the peace), Obstructing Legal Process (failing to comply with a lawful order) and Impersonating a Peace Officer. Carlson was transported to Crow Wing County Jail on the listed charges. The officer later learned that Carlson had also shoplifted some items from businesses on East Main Street and Third Avenue SW. Paperwork to be submitted to the Crow Wing County Attorney’s Office for additional theft charges against Carlson. Evidence obtained. Carlson has been trespassed from several Crosby businesses. —An officer responded to the parking lot of a business on Third Avenue SW after receiving a report of a minor two vehicle accident there. The officer received driver, vehicle and insurance information, took photos of minor damage, and completed reports. No injuries. —Officers received a report of a theft of an item from a residential mailbox on the 200 block of West Main Street. Loss information received and a report generated to document the incident. —Officers received a report of the 100 block area of Third Avenue SE being blocked off. The officer responded and spoke with the construction crew and advised them a permit does need to be obtained from the City of Crosby prior to blocking off a street. —Officers received a report of harassment occurring to a juvenile female from a known juvenile male. Report generated with details and Officers advised on options available. —Officers received a request to assist a local business in making contact with a customer that has been difficult to locate. The officer is attempting to make contact with the individual so the business can release their property to them. —Officers received a report of juvenile males tampering with a motor vehicle parked on First Street SW. Juveniles were identified and parents notified of the incident. No permanent damage occurred to vehicle and a report was generated with all information. —An officer responded to a residence on Third Avenue NE after receiving a request to check the welfare of an individual there. The officer made contact with the resident, obtained necessary information and forwarded report to Crow Wing County Social Services for review. —Officers received a report from a business on East Main Street reference a customer who passed fraudulent checks there. Customer has been identified and the officer, with the assistance of store security, are investigating for probable criminal charges. On Oct. 9: —Officers received a report of fraudulent checks that had been passed at a business on West Main Street. Suspect is known, details of the incidents obtained, and a report generated. The following day, an officer learned the same suspect had passed fraudulent checks at two additional Crosby businesses. Officer is investigating all cases for criminal charges against the suspect. —Officers received a report from a resident who had received a telephone call from someone representing the “Publisher’s Clearing House” who told the resident they had won 10.5 Million dollars. The catch was the resident would have to pay them $1,000 for a “delivery fee” involving an armored vehicle. The resident did not fall for the scam and officers documented the incident. —An officer responded to a residence on the 200 block of Third Street NE along with the Crosby Fire Department on a report of a gas leak. The officer assisted and Minnesota Energy responded to check out the problem as well. —Officers received a report from a citizen who had lost some personal property, possibly on East State Highway 210/6 toward Crosby. —Officers received a report of some juvenile males who destroyed a resident’s pumpkins on First Street SW. Officer made contact with several juveniles and their parents, advising them of incident. Juveniles apologized to victim, and reports were completed for documentation. Officers are monitoring. —Officers received a report of an individual residing in the area who may be in violation of conditions of release. Details were obtained, officers are investigating, and final reports will be submitted to the County Attorney for potential probation violation(s). —An officer responded to a business alarm call on West Main Street. Upon arrival, the officer noted the business was secure and then received a call that all was okay inside per an employee. —Officers received a report of an open window observed at a residence on Fifth Avenue SW. The officer responded and checked out the home. No entry was observed, but the officer did secure a storm window that was off. —Crow Wing County dispatched officer to a disturbance/possible domestic argument call at a residence on West Main Street. At the time of the call, the officer checked and all was quiet. Approximately 30 minutes later, the officer was called back to the same residence on a report of two people yelling at each other. The officer responded and made contact with both, identifying them and obtaining information on their current issues. The officer advised both that they would either need to quiet down or go to jail for the evening. Both agreed to quiet down. —Late in the evening, an officer responded to Poplar Street on a call of several juvenile males involved in a disturbance/suspicious activity incident. An officer made contact with all, identified them, received information and advised. —Officers received a report of a suspicious male walking in the 400 block of First Avenue NE. An officer obtained suspect description and will be monitoring area for the male. —An officer received a call to a building on East Main Street to assist in transporting a male to Deerwood for the night. The officer identified the male as Kevin Arthur Koering, 53, of Brainerd. Koering was subsequently placed under arrest for fifth degree possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Evidence was seized and Koering was transported to Crow Wing County Jail. Reports to be submitted to the County Attorney for charging. On Oct. 10: —Officers received a report of a disturbance between juvenile males on Third Street SW. Details were obtained about what had occurred in addition to the names of the males. The officer made contact with those involved, received additional information and sternly advised all. Parent of the juvenile who initiated the incident was notified as was Juvenile Probation Officer. —An officer responded to a building on East Main Street along with ambulance on a medical call and assisted. —An officer responded to a residence on 600 block of Third Street SW and recovered an abandoned bike reported there. Bike was secured at the Crosby Police Department. —Officers received a report of a possible fight brewing between CrosbyIronton students and Brainerd students, scheduled for this evening. The rumble began over, get this, a girl. Brainerd officers were notified of the information and officers will be monitoring. All juveniles reportedly involved were sternly advised and all names entered into reporting system. —Officers received a report of a wallet found by a citizen on Third Avenue SW. The wallet was turned into police and owner of the wallet was contacted and recovered their wallet, complete with contents! —Crow Wing County dispatched officer to a two vehicle accident that occurred on Fourth Street NE. The officer made contact with both drivers, received all necessary information and completed a report. Moderate to light damage occurred and no injuries reported. On Oct. 11: —An officer was flagged down on First Avenue NW and requested to conduct a courtesy transport for an individual who did not have a ride home. The officer provided an adult male with a ride to their residence. —An officer assisted in checking the area of Oak Street SW for a vehicle reported to be coming from Ironton and possibly being driven by an intoxicated male. Officer was unable to locate the vehicle. —An officer responded to Third Avenue SW after receiving a report that a cellular phone had possibly been stolen from a juvenile male there. The officer made contact with several individuals upon arrival and obtained details of the situation. After receiving further evidence and witness information, The officer issued two juvenile males citations for theft. Parents were notified and reports submitted. —Officers received a call of a driving complaint involving a vehicle traveling into Crosby on West State Highway 210. Officers located the vehicle at the registered owner’s residence, checked on the driver and determined them to be okay. Driver was advised. —Officers responded to an alarm call at a residence on County Road 30. Officers located an open door, checked out the residence and determined there was no forced entry. Interior and exterior were checked and all appeared okay. —A possible intoxicated driver was reported on Oak Street. Vehicle description was received and officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle. Information was forwarded to the Brainerd Police Department. —Officers responded to a residence on First Avenue NW after receiving a call of a possible suspicious person outside. Officers checked the entire area and spoke with the caller. All appeared okay and no one was observed. Officers will monitor. On Oct. 12: —At approximately 2:45 a.m. officers responded to a fight/assault call at a business on West Main Street. Officers made contact with three victims who had sustained injuries from the incident. One victim was transported to CRMC for medical care. Officers interviewed several witnesses/victim(s) who identified the suspect involved and explained what had happened. Officers are continuing to investigate for criminal charges against known suspect. —Officers received a report of a peddler/salesperson in the City of Crosby who was pressuring people to purchase high priced meat products. Details were obtained and a report started. No peddler’s permit had been purchased. If any resident notices people selling things door to door, they are possibly in violation of the Crosby City Ordinance so please call the police department right away if you see this type of activity. —An officer initiated a stop on a vehicle traveling on County Road 31 and Eighth Street NE. The driver came back as having a revoked driver’s license. After some checking, it was determined the driver had the appropriate paperwork and was valid. Officer advised. CITATIONS / ADMINISTRATIVE CITATIONS / WRITTEN and VERBAL WARNINGS The following warnings and citations were issued during the week: one for a pedestrian crosswalk violation; nine for speeding; one for failure to stop; five for an equipment violation; two for passing on the right where prohibited; one for following too closely; one for a stop sign violation; one for no proof of insurance on a motor vehicle and one for no front license plate. ANIMAL PROBLEMS: A citizen called to report that a stray dog was almost hit by a car. Dog was picked up by CWC Animal Control and was transported to HART. Weekly DNR report… Patrol for illegal hunting Activity this week focused around waterfowl hunting enforcement and patrol of the closed central duck zone for illegal hunting. A livestock depredation incident was also investigated. Enforcement contacts were made for use of motorized decoys during the closed period, and toxic shot. Sheriff’s deputies respond to various calls this week The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Department responded to the following area calls according to the initial crime reports (ICRs) from the Crow Wing County Law Enforcement Center: On Sept. 30: —A caller complained that someone placed roofing nails at the end of his driveway near County Road 105 and County Road 11. —A bullet hole was found in a cabin on East Horseshoe Lake Road near Merrifield. —A mailbox and post were taken on Crooked Lake Road near Deerwood. —An individual fled from law enforcement on foot near Tower Road and Nelson Road near Ironton. —A suspicious person came to a homeowner’s front door on Nelson Road near Ironton. —Credit card fraud was reported from County Road 11 near Crosby. —A theft of radiators was reported from County Road 11 near Crosby. —An attempted break in with damage to property was reported from County Road 11 near Crosby. On Oct. 2: —An alarm was reported in Ironton. —Harassing communications were reported from Kego Lake Road near Fifty Lakes. —Juveniles were reported at Rabbit Lake Road and Highway 6 near Crosby. On Oct. 3: —A domestic disturbance was reported on Esden Road near Deerwood. A 33 year old male was arrested. —An alarm was reported near Merrifield. —An alarm was reported on Crooked Lake Lane near Deerwood. —A theft of a chainsaw from a garage between Aug. 5 and Aug.8 was reported from Lake Road near Deerwood. —Property damage was reported from Fork Lane near Merrifield. —A parking complaint was received from Curtis Avenue in Ironton. —A chimney fire was reported on Semler Road near Deerwood. —A driving complaint was reported from Highway 6 and Poplar Drive near Emily. On Oct. 4: —An alarm was reported near Bay Lake. —A report of two people sitting in a car in a driveway on Tame Fish Lake Road near Deerwood was received. —An alarm was reported near Bay Lake. —Property was found near June Lake. —Someone attempted to run through a caller’s gate on County Road 30 near Crosby, —A disturbance was reported on County Road 12 and Wood Lane Road near Ironton. —A complaint of a vehicle driving all over the road was received from County Road 3 and County Road 19 near Merrifield. On Oct. 5: —A welfare check was performed on Highway 169 near Garrison. —Suspicious activity was reported on County Road 11 near Crosby. —A verbal domestic disturbance was reported on Rebel Road near Merrifield. —An alarm was reported on Eagle Ridge Road near Aitkin. —A complaint about a party was received from Pelican Lake Road near Merrifield. —A motorcycle crash with injuries was reported on Highway 6 and Bay Drive near Emily. On Oct. 6: —A welfare check was performed on Birchwood Lane near Garrison. —A driving complaint was received from Blue Lane East near Emily. —An alarm was reported near Emily. —A report of a neighbor’s boat on Little Rabbit Lake which was coming loose from the dock was reported from Lake Avenue near Riverton. The registered owner was contacted and advised. —A vehicle was vandalized and found abandoned in a gravel pit on Destiny Drive near Garrison. —Extra patrol was requested on Fourth Street in Ironton. —A suspicious vehicle was reported on State Highway 6 near Crosby. On Oct. 7: —A business reported having theft issues on County Road 3 near Fifty Lakes. —A theft of a vehicle was reported on Woodland Beach Road near Deerwood. —A crash with property damage was reported on Rabbit Lake Road and County Road 30 near Crosby. On Oct. 8: —An alarm was reported on County Road 12 near Ironton. —An alarm was reported near Aitkin. —An alarm was reported near Fifty Lakes. —A black truck with a boat trailer was parked in the handicapped parking and did not show a disability sticker on Train Bell Road near Deerwood. On Oct. 9: A hazard was reported in the road on County Road 1 east of Fifty Lakes. —A welfare check was performed on Blue Lane East near Emily. —Suspicious activity was reported on State Highway 18 near Garrison. —A disturbance was reported on Rail Drive near Deerwood. —A theft was reported on County Road 1 near Emily. —An alarm was reported on Fox Lake Lane near Fifty Lakes. Emily police calls The Emily Police Department responded to the following calls this past week: On Oct. 6: —Assisted the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office with an alarm on Dam Road. —Assisted EMS with an ambulance call. Other calls for the week included an arrest for a warrant out of Crow Wing County; warnings and citations for speeding; a burning complaint and returning a lost purse found on County Road 1 to its owner.
