We extend the warmest of welcomes to you, and hope the worship will bring

As a church we believe in a living God who is active in our lives. If God has
touched you or stirred something in you this morning or there is something in
your life which needs praying about please don't leave today without praying
with someone. Find someone to pray with you and invite The Holy Spirit to
do His work. If you don't know who to ask, one of the stewards can find
someone for you.
There is also the prayer net at the front of church where you can leave your
concerns with God.
"Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so God can heal you. When a
believing person prays, great things happen." James 5:16
INTO THE LIGHT.
Today is the Day of Prayer for
MAF - the Mission Aviation Fellowship - whose work is such
a vital support to mission in many parts of the world. Please hold MAF in your
prayers today and throughout the year, as they seek to be a beacon of light, and
share the love and light of God, in the countries where they operate.
CHURCH COUNCIL: The Church Council Meeting will be held next
Wednesday, October 22nd at 7.30pm in the Church.
Official notice plus agenda and minutes has been circulated to Council Members:
please speak to Dorothy if you haven’t received your copy.
An invitation is extended to anyone who is interested, but only Church Council
Dorothy.
Members are eligible to vote.
LIGHT PARTY 2014.
Once again the Mum's Bible Study Group are hosting
a Light Party at Harlequinns on 31st October. We will be giving a small tea to
all the children who come and are asking people from the church to provide
sandwiches and cake again please. If you are able to help please speak to Jo
McMillan, Michelle Hogarth, Jenni Stephenson, Rachel Quinn or Sarah Tolley.

SUMMER NEWS FROM THE WATERWAYS.
'Sing to the Lord a New Song, Sing to the Lord, praise his name;
proclaim his salvation day after day.' Psalm 96: 1 & 2
God is good, he pours out his grace upon us every day. How privileged we are to have
Jesus as our Saviour! How wonderful it is to have received his new life into our hearts,
where he lives by His Holy Spirit. To Him be all glory power, majesty and honour,
forever and ever Amen!
As we have received from Him, we pray that we will freely give his love to others. We
constantly pray that He will give us more opportunities to share the Good News of
Jesus with those we meet on the waterways and elsewhere. Indeed, this summer he
has graciously answered our prayers once again. Praise Him!
We thought in April that we would cruise to Bristol and then make our way to London
over the summer. However, last November we met a boater who had complex issues
and God put it on our hearts to help him out of his difficult circumstances, whilst at
the same time letting him know that it is God who changes lives, not us. We were
delighted to walk side by side with this boater as one thing and then another was
sorted out over the spring and summer months, until God had worked through all the
facets of the situation to bring about a victorious conclusion. To Him be all the
praise! We brought the boater a Bible, out of Canal Ministries funding, and pray that
he will read it and come to know Jesus as his Saviour and Lord. During this time we
also met other boaters who had various physical and practical needs. We pray that
each time we are given the opportunity to help someone that they would see Jesus as
a result.
We have also had marvellous God moments. One of these happened when we met a
boater poling his boat along the canal and who was about to moor. He called for help
just after Andy had said, 'I'll give him a hand to moor'. The chap looked thin and was
not happy about his circumstances. We asked him if he had eaten, but he had not
and had no food, nor money to buy petrol for his engine (hence why he was poling his
boat). Canal Ministries was able to assist him with buying the petrol and we also gave
him a food parcel which we had been generously given from a nearby church to give
to a boater such as him. We spent the afternoon with the gentleman, listening to his
story and sharing Jesus with him. He said that he occasionally went to a nearby
church and just after Sue quietly prayed in her heart that God may open an
opportunity for us to ask him if he would like to go to his church with us that evening,
he asked us if we would go to his church with him that evening! God is so good.
The vicar at this church wanted to know more about what God is doing on the
waterways and gave us the opportunity to share about the work of Canal Ministries.
From this came an offer of some Bibles for us to give away. God is amazing the way
he works things out.
Recently, Sue was doing some dusting on the boat and came across these Bibles, and
thought 'we need to give some of these away'. Then the Holy Spirit prompted her to
give two to the man on the boat which had just moored alongside us at the water point.
She duly picked up two of the Bibles and emerged onto the back deck of the boat
where Andy was in conversation with the boater. Unbeknown to Sue, he had been
telling the boater about the Vineyard Church which meets in Bath and the chap

explained that his Mum had just started going to church. Andy told Sue and she
immediately offered him a Bible to give to her - he was pleased to accept it and then
she offered him one as well and again he gladly accepted it. We pray that he will read
it and come to know and accept Jesus our Lord and Saviour for himself.
We have also had the privilege to take part in and lead services. We pray always for
more opportunities, to proclaim Jesus as Lord. As we begin our 'summer - now autumn'
cruise we ask that you would pray for all those we have met this summer and pray that
we would always be attentive and obedient to the prompting, leading and guidance of
the Holy Spirit as we now travel towards London and possibly Nottingham for the winter.
Family News
As many of you will know Michelle, our daughter married Ben on July 12th this summer.
The wedding was absolutely wonderful, Michelle did not stop smiling all day, and God
was indeed glorified in the ceremony. Daniel our son also married his long term
girlfriend, Charlotte, whom he met at university, on August 9th. Again the wedding
was wonderful and we were delighted to see them both so happy. We are now
'mother-in-law' and 'father-in-law' and will do our best in our new roles.
We were also delighted to be at my nephew's wedding in September - another
wonderful occasion. Sue was pleased to be given a horn and is practising making a
noise with it (cannot call it a tune yet!).
Finally, it was really good worshipping with you and sharing fellowship when we visited
you recently. We pray for God's blessing to be upon you all. To HIm be all the glory
forever and ever. Amen.
