National, Local & Private Scholarships
The following are some of the scholarships available to Elkhart Central High School students. Check the daily
announcements for information and additional scholarships. Ask the Guidance secretary, Mrs. Bradshaw, for
scholarship applications. Most applications can be downloaded and/or applied for online. Many scholarships are not
available until January of each year. A number of scholarships & applications will ask for Elkhart Central High
School’s CEEB code. It is 150-915.

Scholarships with 2015 (or Fall 2014) deadline dates are accurate. Scholarships that have deadlines from Spring 2014 were left in for you to have an idea of
when they might be due in 2015—however, the dates could be very different. Check the deadline date that is on the application that you pick up!

Alpha Phi Alpha-Theta Xi Lambda Chapter: Candidates for scholarships will be selected from African American, Hispanic,
and Native American males of the South Bend and Elkhart community. Emphasis will be placed on academic ability, need, and
the potential to succeed in postsecondary education. Minimum 2.5 GPA. Deadline: May 31st

American Association of University Women Alice Fox Scholarship: A scholarship for a Central girl who is committed
to completing a Bachelors degree and may need financial assistance. Deadline: March 28, 2014.

Angie’s Angels, Inc. Scholarship: In memory of Angela (Blondell) Wenzel, will award scholarships to individuals enrolled in
accredited colleges or universities who have had their lives affected by cancer. Deadline: 4/1/14
Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund: provides numerous scholarship opportunities to Asian and Pacific

AXA Achievement Scholarship: Will award $10,000 scholarships to 52 students (one in each state) who demonstrate

The Billy Kirk Leadership Award is designed to assist minority culture students in their pursuit of a Christian education at
Bethel College. The award ranges from $6,000 to $8,000 and is renewable. Factors considered are academic

Cass County Conservation Club: The Emil Schmeling $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student planning to pursue an

Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Scholarship: The Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship is an achievement-based
scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors each year. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, and
their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. Over $3 million annually in scholarships is

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority: The South Bend Alumnae Chapter is sponsoring this one-time award of $1000 ($500 per
semester) open to any female African-American graduating high school student who has exhibited community service and has

Delta Theta Chi Sorority Scholarship: National scholarships in the amount of $3500 will be awarded to students with high

Elkhart Breakfast Optimist Club Scholarship: Four $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. Factors considered in selecting
recipients are: financial need; leadership; citizenship; and academic record. Deadline: April 11, 2014.
Elkhart Central High School-Blazer Club Music Scholarship: Graduating senior planning to enroll in a post-secondary
education after graduation. To be eligible you must have been in a band, orchestra, or choir for all four years of high school and
your parent/guardian must be a current member of the ECHS Blazer Club. Deadline: Received by 3:30 p.m. April 25, 2014.
Elkhart Central High School Commemorative Scholarship Foundation: Scholarships including the Commemorative,
Likens, Irions, and McClinchy will be awarded to students based on character, leadership, school and community involvement,
academic record, and mental attitude. Students must intend to pursue advanced education or training at an accredited college or
school. Deadline: December 13, 2013.

Elkhart Central High School-Dollars for Scholars: These scholarships are made available to our students through
donations from community businesses, individuals, and organizations. All students planning to pursue a secondary education are
encouraged to fill out an application. Online applications will be available February 1. Deadline: March 28, 2014
Elkhart City Bar Association: Scholarships ranging from $250 to $1,000 will be awarded to graduating seniors from area
high schools. The primary criteria are academic performance and financial need. Deadline: Received by June 9, 2014.
Elkhart Civic Theatre: The Lillian Conley Scholarship and the Glenn Gosling Scholarship will be awarded to a student who
has been active in at least one Elkhart Civic Theatre Production. Applicants must be pursuing a degree at an accredited college or

Elkhart County Community Foundation: Several scholarships are offered through this foundation. The universal

John Blakesley Mathematical Excellence: Resident of Elkhart County minimum of 1 year. Graduating senior with
mathematical excellence. Attaining a Core 40 or Honors diploma with successfully completed math honors coursework
and notable achievement in math on the ACT/SAT. Pursuing a degree in mathematics or the sciences. This is a 4-year
award.
Philip T Christ Scholarship: Ranked upper half of academic class. Dependent of a CTS Corporation employee. This
is a 4-year award.
Donald and Margaret Covert Scholarship: Resident of Elkhart County minimum of 1 year, graduating HS senior
attaining a Core 40 or Indiana Academic Honors Diploma or equivalent, pursuing a science-oriented degree. This is a 4year award.
Ivy Tech Community College: Resident of Elkhart County for at least one year, One year award. Students may reapply annually.
IUSB Elkhart County Scholarship: Must be a resident of Elkhart County for at least one year, enrolled as a student
at IUSB in good standing pursuing a degree, and be a high school graduate by June 2014. Students may re-apply
annually.
Jenkins Automotive Scholarship: Resident of Elkhart County minimum of 1 year. Graduating senior planning to
enroll in a 2-year automotive technician certificate program. This is a 2-year award.
Claude S. and Hanna M. Kegerreis Scholarship: Resident of Elkhart County minimum of 1 year. Graduating
senior attaining a Core 40 or Honors diploma. Planning to enroll in an accredited college in a 4-year program. This is a 4year award.
Jane Fryer McConaughy Memorial Scholarship: Indiana resident. Pursuing a major in ministry, missionary or
education. Students may re-apply annually.
The Charles Milton and Miriam Nance Miller Nursing Scholarship: Resident of Elkhart County for at least
one year. Graduating high school senior pursuing a nursing degree. This is a 4-year award.
Henry and Alice Pederson Educational Fund: Resident of Elkhart County minimum of 1 year. Graduating senior
attaining a Core 40 or Honors diploma. Planning to enroll in an accredited college in a 4-year program. This is a 4-year
award.
Todd Putnam Memorial Scholarship Fund: Resident of Elkhart County minimum of 1 year. Graduating HS
Senior from Elkhart Community Schools (Elkhart Central preference). Student must be pursuing a career in health care or
special needs education in a 4-year program at an accredited college. This is a 4-year award.
Cpl. Aaron L. Seal Memorial Scholarship: 1st generation college student. Resident of Elkhart County for a
minimum of 1 year. Planning to enroll in an accredited college in a 4-year program. This is a 4-year award. Awards 1
new scholarship every 4 years, available 2016.
Walter O. Wells Scholarlship: Resident of Elkhart County minimum of 1 year. Graduating senior attaining a Core
40 or Honors diploma. Planning to enroll in an accredited college in a 4-year program. This is a 4-year award.
Ira Whitlock Scholarship: Resident of Elkhart County minimum of 1 year. Graduating senior attaining a Core 40 or
Honors diploma. Planning to enroll in an accredited college in a 4-year program. This is a 4-year award.

Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship: Resident of Elkhart County, graduating senior attaining a Core 40 or
Honors diploma. Must be a 1st generation college student planning to enroll in an accredited Indiana college in a 4-year
degree program. This is a four-year full-tuition scholarship. Deadline 1/22/14
Elkhart County Farm Bureau: $300 scholarships will be awarded. Applicants must be a student whose family is a current
member of Farm Bureau. Membership with Farm Bureau must have been carried for at least two years prior to application.

Elkhart General Hospital Auxiliary Dee Watson Nursing Scholarship: Scholarships for students interested in pursuing
a career in nursing. Deadline: RECEIVED BY May 1.
Elkhart Kiwanis Club Scholarships: Five $1000 scholarships are provided for students based on academic achievement,
extra-curricular activities, and financial need. One of the five scholarships is reserved for a qualified minority student in memory
of Colonel Leonard Johnson and another for a student who plans to pursue theology or some other Spiritually-based endeavor.
Recipients may reapply making them potential 4-year scholarships. Deadline: March 28, 2014.
Elkhart Lions Club Walter Lerner Scholarship: Scholarship will be awarded based on student’s academic achievement,
community service, and good citizenship. Application available at www.blueblazers.org Deadline: March 15, 2013.
Elkhart Luncheon Optimist Club Scholarship: This service club is offering two $1,000 scholarships to assist high school
students with financial aid who intend to further their education. Scholarship requirements are a GPA of 3.0 or above and SAT of
800 or above. Deadline: April 24, 2014.
Elk’s Legacy Awards: A $4,000 scholarship issued over four years. You must be a high school senior and a child, grandchild,
step-child or step-grandchild of an Elk in good standing. Award is based on leadership development and civic responsibility.

Elk’s National “Most Valuable Student” Award: They award 500 scholarships ranging in value from $1,000/year to
$15,000/year. You must be a high school senior and a U.S. citizen. Award is based on financial need, leadership and academic

Alfred H. Free Scholarship: This scholarship is for a graduating senior who plans to major in Chemistry or Chemical
Engineering. Deadline: April 15, 2013
Gates Millennium Scholars: Scholarships will be available to African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian
Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American student with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher, who has demonstrated
leadership abilities through community service, extracurricular or other activities and has a significant financial need. Apply

GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship: Program honors the legacy and character of our nation's 40th President by rewarding
college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with financial assistance to pursue
higher education. Through the generous support of GE, this national program annually awards $10,000 renewable scholarships to

John A. & Dorothy H Geyer Scholarship Fund: The John and Dorothy Geyer Scholarship fund aids students of limited
financial resources who, by their academic achievements, character, and personal contributions, clearly indicate a potential to
benefit from higher education. Requires Parent/Guardian Financial Statement/FAFSA and 3 letters of recommendation.

Gleaner Life Insurance Society Scholarship: Gleaner Life Insurance Society Scholarship Foundation awards scholarships
on a competitive basis to Gleaner Insurance family members who are attending college or programs of higher education.
Recipients are judged based on the following: academic record; leadership; quality of activities; letters of recommendation;

Melvin W. Glendening Scholarship ®: Criteria: high moral standards, leadership, character, and citizenship, scholastically
in the upper half of their class, and who will not receive a full scholarship from another source. Deadline: May 1.
Thomas E. Goodwin Memorial Scholarship: This $1000.00 scholarship is for a senior going into the Law Enforcement
Field or a related field of study. Deadline: April 4, 2014.
Goshen College: Offers numerous need-based and merit-based aid/scholarships. Apply online at

Hazen H. Haggerty Scholarship ®: Criteria: high moral standards, leadership, character, and citizenship, scholastically in
the upper half of their class, and who will not receive a full scholarship from another source. Deadline: May 1.
Harrington Orthodontics: A $1000 scholarship will be awarded. Any college-bound past or present Harrington Orthodontic
patient will qualify. Essay is required. Deadline: April 7, 2014.
Hasseur-Stutzman-Hahn Scholarship-Elkhart Elk’s Lodge #425 ®: two $750 and two $600 scholarships one of each to
a male and one of each to a female to be renewable up to three years. The applicants are judged on service to the school and
community, scholarship and financial need. Deadline: April 1.
Heart City Kiwanis Kauffman-Wells Teaching Scholarship®: Majoring in Elementary or Secondary Education. Award
is to be made on the basis of academic merit, citizenship and intent to attend an Indiana college or university. Deadline: May 15.
High School Heroes Scholarship: sponsored by the South Bend Medical Foundation, One $1000 educational scholarship will
be provided to a student who has donated at least one unit of blood during his/her high school career. Eligibility includes a
minimum 2.5 GPA, copy of your completed FAFSA, and intend to pursue a full-time associate or baccalaureate course of study at
an accredited public or private college or university. This is a renewable scholarship. Applications available at

Hispanic Scholarships: There are numerous scholarships designated for Hispanic students. Application requirements, due
dates, and eligibility varies with each scholarship. Information and applications are available online. See

Russ Hohman Scholarship: Plan to study law enforcement or criminology. Awards are made on the basis of academic
achievement, citizenship, and the intent to attend college. Applications are also available through the Bristol Police Department.
Deadline: RECEIVED BY July 1st.
Horatio Alger Association Scholarship ®: Scholarship opportunities for a student who have demonstrated integrity,
perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, financial need, a good academic record, commitment to pursue a
college education, and a desire to contribute to society. Up to $22,000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior with a
minimum 2.0 GPA, a U.S. citizen, demonstrates financial need, and intends to pursue a bachelor’s degree. Apply online by

Earl & Mildred Hudson Scholarship: This scholarship is available to residents of the state of Indiana pursuing a degree in

Immigrant Scholarship List: A list of scholarships for students regardless of immigration status. These scholarships do not

Indiana Algebra Project College Scholarship: Must be seeking a college degree in Math, Science or Technology
Education. The scholarship is applicable to elementary and secondary education majors. The fund will provide resources for full
and/or partial scholarships. This is a renewable scholarship. Must attend an Indiana state-funded 4 year college or university.
Declare a major in math, science, or technology education, be 1st generation college student, have taken some AP courses in high
school, have a minimum 2.5 GPA and make a five-year commitment to teach in an underserved community in the State of

Indiana Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, Inc. Scholarship: This scholarship
annually awards four $500 scholarships to college-bound seniors who plan to attend an Indiana college or university and pursue a
major in health education, physical education, recreation, dance education, or sport administration. Minimum GPA 3.0.

Indiana Association of Educational Office Professionals, Inc. Scholarships: These scholarships will be awarded in the

Indiana Black Expo Scholarship®: The IBE Circle City Classic Scholarship Program is designed to encourage the pursuit of
higher education for Indiana residents. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5and be attending a college or technical

Indiana Broadcasters Association Scholarship Program: For students who have a 3.0 G.P.A., live in Indiana, plan to
attend an Indiana college, and have participated in a high school broadcast facility or worked or interned at a commercial
broadcast facility while attending an Indiana high school. You must have received credit in a Broadcasting, Electronic Media,

Indiana Burglar and Fire Alarm Association: Indiana Burglar and Fire Alarm Association will award a $1,000 scholarship

Indiana Conservation Officers: Indiana Conservation Officers Organization gives out four $500 scholarships every year for
graduating seniors or college students who are studying or going to study Law Enforcement or Conservation Law Enforcement.

Indiana Consortium of State and Local Human Rights Agencies; Student Education Assistance Award: A $500
award to a State of Indiana high school senior based on Leadership, Academics, Extracurricular Activities, Recommendations, and
Essay. Deadline: May 28, 2013
Indiana’s Dream Initiative Scholarship: To provide Latino students in Elkhart County with further help in paying for
college tuition or books. Two $600 scholarships will be awarded. Selection criteria includes Latino student or of Latino heritage,
GPA of 3.0 or higher, extracurricular/community involvement, financial need, attending a two or four year accredited
college/university. Deadline: RECEIVED BY March 2
Indiana Oil & Gas Association Scholarship: For seniors with a 3.0 GPA or higher who have financial need, shows an
interest in the oil & gas industry, and pursuing a bachelor degree in Earth Sciences, Petroleum or Chemical Engineering, or
Geology majors. Deadline: April 1, 2014.
Indiana School Counselor Association: Has your life been impacted by a school counselor or counseling program? The
