A Big Thank You to all who accepted the invitation to be in the PPC for the last three years; thanks to all who did the same for the current year. I made an attempt to represent parishioners from all walks of life. Ex officio members include the clergy, principal, CRE and two trustees; others are nominated by the pastor. The PPC is a consultative and an advisory body to the pastor; its term limits is three years. When office bearers are elected by the members, the pastor is the president, the chairperson runs the meeting and the recording secretary keeps the minutes. The Pastor must be present at all meetings. The agenda is set by all three; members may communicate their suggestions via secretary at least one week prior to the meeting. Meetings are held every first Monday of the month at 7:30 PM in the lower church; it should last not more than one hour. At least once per year an open meeting is held. The next meeting will be one; such topics to be discussed include the Thanksgiving Outreach Program, the possibility of keeping the Summer Mass schedule throughout the year and the enhancement of the Spanish Mass. EUCHARISTIC CELEBRATION The last two Sundays, the Liturgy of the Word accented on the same thing: Jesus' invitation to come to the feast; a joyful and happy occasion. There is a need for preparation and to approach this celebration not out of obligation, but as something to gain and enjoy. You get what you give: with this in mind, we are planning our liturgies for all students. We are having weekly Class Masses with closer and active participation; students prepare readings and hymns, etc. in class. Teachers/catechists are expected to be animators: we have given the schedule for the Family Mass and the Children’s Mass. Unfortunately, we are having conflicts with regular lectors: understanding and cooperation is required. Adult lectors must accompany the young lectors and stand beside them. They must also train them for the general intercessions as well. Ushers need to do the same for the Gift-Bearers and those accompanying the celebrant. Parents, teachers and catechists must be animators. The Card System is going well. When there is no class, keep the card after we initial it. ENVELOPES All Souls Day Mass Remembrance envelopes are available in each vestibule. They are also included in your boxed set of envelopes. The 2015 envelopes have arrived. They will be made available in the beginning of November. Please consult the bulletin as to the exact date. There are no more 2014 envelopes available. If you do not have any, please put your name, amount and envelope number on a plain white envelope. If you are unsure of your envelope number, please call the rectory for it so we can credit your account correctly. OUR LADY HELP OF CHRISTIANS PROJECT HOSPITALITY OUTREACH OLHC continues to coordinate our Parish outreach programs with Project Hospitality. Our tradition of serving lunch, the last Saturday of every month, at the walk-in shelter on the North Shore has enabled us to provide warm meals for the needy for many years. We have an amazing group of volunteers who serve and/or provide us with food monthly. Once again we would like to make sure all Parishioners are aware of this opportunity to serve the less fortunate of Staten Island. If you would like to participate, please contact the rectory and we will have somebody contact you. We will once again be hosting Thanksgiving Dinner at the CYO Center on Anderson Avenue. Details will be posted in the bulletin shortly. This is one of our major outreach programs and your participation is welcomed. OLHC ANNUAL WOMEN’S RETREAT The OLHC Women’s Retreat took place last weekend at San Alfonso Retreat House in New Jersey. It was a time to get away to de-stress and to spend some time with the Lord. As described by Pope John Paul II, World Mission Sunday is "an important day in the life of the Church because it teaches how to give: as an offering made to God, in the Eucharistic celebration and for all the missions of the world”. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process by which adults become members of the Roman Catholic Faith.
