Twenty-Seventh Sunday
in Ordinary Time - October 5,

VOCATIONS CHALICE
" he harvest is plentiful but the
T
workers are few.” Matthew 9:37
2014
Dear Friends,
Often we use God-Talk” to justify our own attitudes and our own actions.
All that we have and all that we are comes from
God’s providence. We pray to be able to listen
to the Lord attentively and to do His will always.
We celebrate life in Christ each day. As we
particularly celebrate “Respect Life Sunday”
we pray for the wisdom and strength to live in the
Lord and to promote all that keeps us in His peace.
The Samuel Vocations Ministry
at St. John Neumann is a ministry
dedicated to promoting, encouraging, and fostering vocations to the priesthood,
diaconate and consecrated life through prayer
and parish activities.
One of their most visible activities is the
Vocations Chalice which is given to different
parish families each weekend to take home and
pray all week in support of vocations. They invite
you to stop by their table outside in the loggia
after Mass if you would like to sign up to take the
chalice home. Please stop by to learn a little about
Samuel and the Vocations Chalice.
As you reflect on God’s Word, may He strengthen
you with His peace. May the good Lord bless you
and your dear family abundantly each day. Please
pray for me.

33 DAYS TO MORNING GLORY
IS A RETREAT WITH MARY, OUR
BLESSED MOTHER
It is meant to inspire and empower anyone to draw
closer to Jesus through Mary. Take this retreat
and let St. Louis de Monfort, St. Maximillian
Kolbe, Blessed John Paul II and Blessed Mother
Teresa lead you into the mystical wonder of the
Immaculate Heart.
We will meet once a week on Thursday evening
for 6 weeks beginning October 23, 7:30 - 9:00 p.m.
For information please call Margann Wilhelm
305-345-9600 or [email protected]
Registration outside after all Masses this weekend.
God’s Gifts
The Gospel reminds not to squander God’s Creation.
We are called to take care of it, share its fruits generously, respect the life and dignity of every human
being, and care for people who are poor or vulnerable.
Clearly Jesus was disappointed with the way people
were treating God’s precious gift. What would Jesus
say about the way we use His gifts today?
How does our “disposable” lifestyle impact our
planet? Do we hoard possessions because we are
anxious about the future, or do we share freely trusting
the Lord to provide for future needs? To learn more
about the challenge of consumption visit
www.catholicclimatecovenant.org
Let us pray for the grace to live fruitful lives of
selflessness, generosity, truth, honor, justice, purity,
grace, excellence and mercy so we never hear the
words, “Therefore, I say to you, the kingdom of God
will be taken away from you and given to a people
that will produce its fruit.”

ASCENDING LIFE
INTERNATIONAL
IS A CHRISTIAN MOVEMENT OF
SENIOR ADULTS ACTIVE IN CHURCH AND
THEIR COMMUNITY
Our next meeting will be on Friday, October 10 at
9:30 a.m. in Room E. Join us as we discuss our topic
“A Strong and Active Faith” with our Spiritual
director Hugh Clear. Refreshments will be served.
A Minute in the Church; One minute Catholic Apologetics
Apologetics- the branch of theology concerned with the defense and rational justification of Christianity
(in our case, Catholicism).
Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks for a reason for your hope. 1 Peter 3:15
The Rosary
Many people condemn the praying of the Rosary, calling it rote prayer and citing Matthew 6:7, where
Jesus says, “In prayer do not babble on like the pagans, who think that they will be heard because of
their many words.”
Perhaps these people don’t know that the Rosary is actually a deeply meditative prayer that focuses on
events in the life of Christ and his mother. The Rosary offers us time to reflect on four sets of mysteries,
each set containing 5 events. The mysteries are the Glorious, the Sorrowful, the Joyful and the Luminous.
For each of the events, ten Hail Mary’s are prayed. Now, many people don’t even know that, while you’re
re praying the ten Hail Mary’s, you’re actually reflecting on an event from the Scriptures or the life of
Christ or Mary. There are even Scriptural Rosaries where you read a Bible verse before each Hail Mary.
You see, the Hail Mary’s actually give us time for reflection. You may even kind of consider them like
background music. So, if someone tells you that the Rosary is just rote prayers, fill them in on the deeply
meditative prayer that it truly is.

a retreat. Come join us! The Retreat will be held
at Morningstar Renewal Center in Pinecrest.
