Dinner on Sunday, November 9 beginning at 4 p.m. for social hour
followed by dinner, presentations and entertainment at 5 p.m. on
the EC campus. At the event we will honor the extraordinary
accomplishments and dedication of this year's honorees including
Jilyne (McDonald) Higgins '04, Lynn Lattanzio, Greg Marsh, and
Theresa Parson. Keynote speaker is Ed Viesturs, widely regarded as

Students are allowed to wear costumes to school on Friday, October
31. Costumes should be school-appropriate; no weapons, blood,
masks or occult themes. Modesty guidelines apply; skirts must be
knee length, low-cut shirts are not allowed and shoulders must be
covered. Students not in costume should be in customary Friday
dress.

DEAD ALTAR
November is a month to remember our beloved who have passed on.
During the month of November the Spanish Department and Campus
Ministry will honor those members of our community who have gone
before us with a Day of the Dead Altar of Remembrance. All those
in our community are invited to bring a photo of a family member
who has passed on to place on the table, and to write their names in
the Book of Remembrance that is placed on the altar. If you can't
make it to campus please enter the names of your beloved deceased
online. The altar is located against the wall outside the Chapel and
will remain up until the week before Thanksgiving. All our loved
ones who have been lost will remain in the prayers of the
community.

Do you have a student who is making a difference through
volunteering? Encourage them to apply for a Prudential Spirit of
Community Award and they could win $1,000 and a trip to
Washington, D.C. One EC middle school student and one EC high
school student will be selected as honorees and will be eligible for

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY - KLAHANIE HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL
Klahanie is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated individuals who
are interested in volunteering for the Halloween carnival on
Saturday, October 25 at Challenger Elementary! Volunteers are
needed from 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. to set up, decorate, run games and
clean up after the event. Volunteers are asked to dress for the

Thank you to all the families who have procured items for the
auction or donated themselves. We are off to a fantastic start!
Congratulations to John and Nicole Rhea who won a $100 Schwartz
Brothers gift card in our first procurement drawing! The next
drawing for the same prize will be held on Monday, November 3.
Enter the drawing by turning in your procurement(s) or donation(s)

own vacation homes to kindly consider donating a one week stay to

Additional volunteers are needed for the Eastside Catholic
Touchstone Leadership Awards Dinner on Sunday, November 9. We
are seeking student volunteers on November 9 from 8 a.m. until 2
p.m. Students are asked to commit to two hours or more. Since this
is a 21 years of age or older event, we are not able to include
student volunteers on the evening of the event. All adult volunteers
are asked to commit to arriving by 2 p.m. and staying until 8 p.m.
Please contact Sharon Soldenwagner if you are able to help. It will
be an enjoyable evening for both attendees and volunteers!

LITURGY DRESS - OCTOBER 30
High school students are required to be in liturgy dress for the All
Saints Mass on Thursday, October 30. There will be a split liturgy
schedule this day, so the liturgies will take place at 9:25 a.m. and
1:45 p.m. All members of our Eastside Catholic community are
welcome to join us!
HOMECOMING DANCE TICKETS
The Homecoming dance is Saturday, October 25 from 8-11 p.m.
The theme is Out of This World: To fantasy and Beyond. Tickets
are $10 presale during both lunches and go to $15 on Friday at 3
p.m.
STUDENT AMBASSADORS NEEDED
High School Students: Admissions is seeking all Student
Ambassadors and Leadership students (past and present): Admissions
needs you! We need ECHS students to help tour families through EC
at our High School Fall Open House on Sunday, November 2. You
will tour prospective families thru the classrooms and share your
experiences at EC. This is a very important job and we are looking
forward to the leadership you bring to these events. We need grades
9- 12 to help tour families. Please sign up by Mrs. K's door. Any
questions, please ask!
Prior-to-event training: Training will be held right before the
open house in the Athletic Pavilion Board Room, from 12:15 to
12:45 p.m. Karen Skoog will conduct the training. Training will be
reminders about the high school program, classes and basic
information on how to be a great tour guide.
SOPHOMORE REACH RETREAT
The Sophomore REACH retreat will take place on Tuesday, October
28 during the school day. All sophomore students will attend this
retreat and should bring a sack lunch as we will be heading to Camp
Don Bosco in Carnation for a day of prayer, reflection and growth.

COLLEGE PANEL
The college counselors are hosting their 4th annual college panel on
Thursday, October 30 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. in the Commons. We are
pleased to have representatives from four diverse colleges to
answer your questions regarding important factors in college
admission and selection. Also, what are the differences between a
small, highly selective liberal arts college; a large, Division 1
research intensive university; and a selective, mid-size Catholic
school? Is it really more expensive to attend college overseas and
what are the rewards in doing so? The college representatives bring
years of admissions experience from: Colby College (ME), Gonzaga
University (WA), Purdue University (IN) and University College
Dublin (Ireland). Freshman, sophomore and junior families are

PFSA FATHER/SON EVENT
PFSA is looking for a chairperson or co-chairs (moms and/or dads)
to organize a Father/Son event in January or February of 2015. We
have resources to help you with this event. Past events have been a
Thunderbird's hockey game and a game night. Other fun ideas are
welcome! If you are interested in chairing this event or want more

VOLUNTEER
FOR THE
NATIONAL COLLEGE FAIR
The Seattle National College Fair is taking place at the Washington
State Convention and Trade Center in downtown Seattle, and they
are looking for Student Page volunteers to help with a variety of
tasks, such as:
Distributing bags and maps to fair attendees
Assisting the college representatives with their materials
Distributing water to the college representatives throughout
the fair
Providing directional assistance, and assisting with other
miscellaneous duties
You will receive a free t-shirt when you check-in at the Convention
Center, and we ask that you wear this t-shirt during your shift.
There are a variety of time-shifts available and EC students may
volunteer on Saturday, November 1. The College Fair takes place
from 12 - 4 p.m. If you are interested in volunteering register
online by Wednesday, October 29.
HIGH SCHOOL MISSION TRIP
We have 50 high school students and five adults who will be heading
to the Tenderloin District of San Francisco, California during midwinter break in February for our mission trip. The team will be
serving in a variety of ways possibly including a food bank, thrift
store, meal deliveries, cleaning, helping in schools, office work,
cooking, etc. We are so grateful for all 50 of these students being
willing to spend their week of vacation serving others. The team
starts meeting this week and will be organizing fundraising events
soon! They greatly appreciate all of your support. Please keep our
high school mission team in your prayers!

MOCK ACT - GIRLS LACROSSE FUNDRAISER
The Mock ACT is offered to all students interested in practicing
college entrance exams. The more you practice taking the test, the
more comfortable you will be taking the real thing! Freshmen and
sophomores, it's never too early to start practicing your skills and
become familiar with the test. Juniors, this is a great opportunity to
take a practice test to assess your test readiness. Register early to
secure a seat!
The Mock ACT will be held on Saturday, November 1 from 9 a.m. 1:30 p.m. in the EC Library.
MIDDLE SCHOOL HOMECOMING TAILGATE
On Friday, October 24, the PTF invites all EC middle school students
and parents to the homecoming Tailgate party. Look for signs near
Crusader Alley designating our middle school area. Join other
middle school families and enjoy some of the best food trucks in our
community. Food includes Mexican, burgers, hot dogs and

MIDDLE SCHOOL ALL SAINTS DAY MASS
The middle school will celebrate All Saints Day with Mass on
Thursday, November 6 in the Chapel. The Liturgy will take place at
1:45 p.m. All members of our Eastside Catholic community are
welcome to join us!
MIDDLE SCHOOL BOOK CLUB
Middle School Book Club is reading The Maze Runner by James
Dashner. If your student is interested in joining, the club's next
meeting will be in the library on Monday, October 27 during MS
lunch to talk about the first five chapters. See Ms. Vikstrom if you
have questions.

TO
ECHS
The EC Admissions team would like to welcome your student to
experience the Crusader spirit and the Eastside Catholic
Touchstones as they spend a day in the life of a high school student
at ECHS. Your student can register for a "Crusader for the day" visit
online. They can select a school day that works best for their
schedule. Like all student visitors, your child will have the
opportunity to shadow a high school student, participate in classes
taught by our nationally-recognized faculty and enjoy a
complimentary lunch in the Commons. Please register online for
your visit day. We look forward to welcoming your student to the
class of 2019! * The visit day is optional to all EC rising eighthgraders.
Information Night for Eighth-Grade Parents: Mark your calendars
and save the date for Thursday, December 11 at 6:30 p.m. At this
information session, parents will learn more specific details about
course registration, the scope of the high school curriculum,
college counseling, campus ministry programs, retreat
opportunities, clubs, activities, athletics and more.
Re-Enrollment Requirements: Your student does not need to
formally apply for admission to the high school. We will review the
course requirements at the Information Night on December 11 to
help prepare you for class registration on February 28, 2015.
HOLY FAMILY KIRKLAND HOSTS SEVENTH DEANERY DANCE - FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24
AND
EIGHTH -GRADE
All ECMS seventh- and eighth-grade students are invited to attend
the "Seahawks" themed deanery dance hosted by Holy Family
Kirkland on Friday, October 24 from 7-9 p.m. in HFK school
cafeteria. Students are required to bring their ASB card and signed
permission slip. This dance is only for students of invited deanery
schools so ECMS students are not permitted to invite friends from
other schools. Students must comply with HFK dress code; "NO tank
tops, halter tops, bagging or sagging pants, skimpy skirts or bare
mid-riffs." Cell phones use is limited to the lobby.
MIDDLE SCHOOL WRESTLING BEGINS OCTOBER 27
Middle school wrestling begins October 27. Meet in the mat room
right after school. Please note: all wrestlers will need to submit a
completed athletic waiver form signed by parents and a physical
form signed by their physician, prior to participation.

Back to back champs! EC girls golfers, McKenna Boit, Mina Head,
Molly Foley and MacKenzie Storie won the Metro League Girls Golf
Championship again this year! They will compete later this spring in
the District tournament. Congratulations also goes out to Andres
O'Beirne, James Grice and Nate Killeen who qualified for Districts
as well! Great job!

WINTER SPORTS ARE JUST AROUND THE CORNER!
For those athletes interested in wrestling, boys basketball, girls
basketball or boys swimming, the first day of practice will be
Monday, November 17, 2014. Please make sure you have your
athletic waiver and current physical (within the past 13 months)
submitted to the office prior to tryouts. If you are not sure if your
paperwork is in, please contact Stacey Stoutt

SAVE THE DATE: MANDATORY WINTER SPORTS PARENTS MEETING
Parents of winter athletes, please plan to attend the Winter Sports
Parent Meeting on Wednesday, November 5 at 6:30 p.m. in the EC
gym. The general athletics meeting will be followed by individual
team break out meetings for boys basketball, girls basketball,
swimming and wrestling. If you are a parent of a fall athlete and
attended the general athletics meeting this fall, you can just come
for the team meetings at 7:30 p.m. if you like.
