MARIJUANA - TOMORROW, OCTOBER 9
Join us in the Chapel on Thursday, October 9 from 7-8:30 p.m. for
our Parent Education Presentation on the Impact of Marijuana
Use. The PFSA is partnering with EC to bring you this
presentation. Jerry Blackburn will present on how the recent
legalization of marijuana for adult recreational use and the
varying perceptions on medical use has had a signification impact
on youth access and increased consumption. Join us and explore
the impact marijuana use has on both the cognitive and
physiological development of our young people.

Friday night Skyline High School will be hosting their homecoming
parade. The northbound lanes of 228th will be closed between
Discovery Elementary and Skyline from 4 - 6:30 p.m. Two way
traffic will be maintained on what are normally the southbound
lanes. This will lead to slower traffic and delays. Motorists are
encouraged to take alternate routes. We look forward to seeing

TOMORROW - LITURGY DRESS
High school Mass will be held tomorrow. Liturgy dress is required.
SENIOR CRUISE - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11
Time: Loading starts at 8 p.m. We will leave from the dock at 8:30
p.m. sharp and return at 11 p.m.
Tickets: Tickets will be sold at both lunches. Cost is $50 per
student.
Location: ACG Marina, Dock E, Westlake Ave N, in Seattle. Carpool
and allow extra time to get to the Marina, especially if it is
raining. You will probably have to pay for parking.
Attire: Semi-formal. Modesty guidelines apply. This is a boat.
Boats rock unexpectedly. And there are stairs. These stairs get
wet because the boat is in the water. So consider your shoes too.
YOU HAVE TO KEEP YOUR SHOES ON THE ENTIRE TIME LADIES. No
negotiations.
Food: There will be light refreshments served partway through the
cruise. Most students organize groups and go out for dinner before
departure. Just remember to plan for traffic and allow enough
time to get to the boat. Your ticket covers the cost of soda.
PSAT TEST - WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15
8:50 a.m. - Students report to testing room
9 a.m. - Testing begins
12 p.m. - End of PSAT/student dismissal
High school students will be dismissed at 12 p.m. on Wednesday,
October 15, even if they complete the exam early. Please be sure
students bring a book to read, eat a good breakfast and get plenty
of sleep. Note: buses will run on their regularly scheduled morning
route times on this day and depart campus at 12:30 p.m. There
will be no lunch service or after school supervised study on this
day.
YOUNG LIFE TOMORROW
The Young Life Club is meeting tomorrow at 8-9 a.m. in the Board
Room. EC's adult Young Life leader is Danny Kesl. Danny is a 2008
graduate of Eastlake High School and also works with the Young
Life Capernum program. The next meeting will be Thursday,
October 23.
What is Young Life?
It starts with adults concerned enough about kids to go to them,
on their turf and in their culture, building bridges of authentic
friendship.

Kaplan Test Prep is providing free cram sessions for the PSAT.
Students who attend will learn their 10 Top Score-Raising
Strategies and review tips for time management during the test.

TRAVELING
TO
LATIN AMERICA?
Is your student interested in living with a host family? Meeting
other teens from across the U.S.? Volunteering on community
projects? Improving their Spanish? Then they should consider
volunteering with Amigos de las Américas during the summer of
2015! Volunteers must be 16 years old by December 2015, be at
least a sophomore during the 2014-15 school year and have
completed Level 2 Spanish by June 2015. Interviews take place
this November and training occurs throughout the 2014-15 school
year. Sra. Martin is involved with this organization and can help
you apply - stop by D401 or email [email protected] for

IN
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Students may letter each year in Community Service, similar to
receiving a varsity letter in a sport. To receive a letter, a student
must complete 100 hours of service outside of the school,
complete the service essay in an exemplary manner and interview
with Ms. Ricci and/or Fr. Heric. The essay prompt and interview
schedule will be available in the spring. Contact Ms. Ricci with any
questions.
CTP4 TESTING
On October 15 our middle school students will begin taking the
Comprehensive Testing Program 4 (CTP4), which is a standardized,
norm-referenced achievement test. In order to give each student
an unhurried approach, testing will take place the mornings of
Wednesday, October 15; Thursday, October 16 and Friday, October
17. The tests begin each morning at 7:50 a.m. (9:10 a.m. on
Thursday). It is very important for students to arrive on time each
day.
If your student has an Eastside Catholic Student Accommodation
Plan (SAP) and you have not yet contacted his or her academic
counselor, please contact Jim Stern in Student Services as soon as
possible.
Thank you in advance for not scheduling dental or medical
appointments during these test days. Please encourage plenty of
sleep, a good breakfast and best student efforts on the CTP4 tests.
Note: Wednesday, October 15 is a noon dismissal with buses
departing campus at 12:30 p.m. There will be no lunch service or
after school supervised study on this day.
MIDDLE SCHOOL HARVEST FESTIVAL
On Friday, October 17, the PTF invites all EC middle school
students to the annual Harvest Festival. Join us for music,
dancing, food and more. Students are allowed "free dress" for
school on this day (same as EC spirit dress but without the
requirement of official 'EC' wear). Students should still be mindful
of our modesty guidelines and dress appropriately for school.

MIDDLE SCHOOL YEARBOOK
Middle School Yearbook is looking for applicants from grades 6-8
who can meet after school once a week from October to April for
an hour. Please pick up an application from Mrs. Martin in D401 or
email [email protected]. Completed applications are
due no later than October 17. Please note the day of the weekly
meeting has not been decided and will depend on the club's
members.
MIDDLE SCHOOL WRESTLING BEGINS OCTOBER 27
Middle school wrestling begins October 27. There will be an
informational meeting in the commons on Thursdsay, October 16
right after school with Coach Roybal. Please note: Middle school
wrestling requires a physical signed by your doctor prior to
participation.
