Chamber News
October 2014

Barry Howard
President / CEO
Webster NY 14580
Things are changing! The leaves
change colors; the temperature drops;
the days get shorter and the clocks fall
back (daylight savings time ends on November 2nd).
A couple of changes are underway at the Chamber as well. The Chamber website is being updated and will
include some new features (including a
more searchable member database) and
give you more information with less effort
– all without losing the features we want
and use the most. Our strategic planning
process is moving along and we will see results from both of
these projects before year end.
Another other change that will be happening soon is
that we will stop automatically sending the newsletter via US
mail. Many of you have indicated that you don’t use the printed copy but prefer to use the online copy. We will still mail the
newsletter to any business member that wishes to receive it
via the US mail, but you must request we mail it – it will no
longer be automatic. As always, everyone on the email list will
receive the newsletter notification and will be able to view it
online. This change will take place with the January 2015
newsletter – if you would like to receive it by mail, please call
the office and let Barb know.
We have a couple of great networking events coming
up on November 6th and December 9th – please make sure
those are on your calendar.
This year we will be collecting a couple of routinely
needed “winter” items for distribution to Webster residents in
need: socks of all sizes from infant to adult and mittens, hats
and gloves of all sizes. So when you are out shopping, please
consider adding one of these to your list and bring it to the
Chamber breakfast on November 21st or drop them off the
next time you come by the Chamber.
It is health insurance season again. Open enrollment
will begin shortly and the new rates will be posted on our
website. Plan selection is available through the Chamber for
businesses, sole proprietors, individuals and families. Remember the Chamber offers EVERY available plan through every
source (commercial business, individual, on or off the NYS
Exchange, with our without subsidies) and there is no additional cost to you or your business for using the Chamber for
your health insurance selection and enrollment process.
Our next breakfast is on Friday the 31st of October –
some people will be dressing in costume to add to our usual
Friday morning festivities so feel free to participate or to team
up with some other fun loving Chamber cohorts and go with a
theme! And don’t forget to call the office to let us know you are
coming.

Business of the Month
The Webster Chamber of Commerce is excited
to recognize North Forest Office Space as the October
Business of the Month. Randy Mauger, Tom Pruzenski,
Pete Gillett and the folks at North Forest want to provide their customers with a simple and trusting office
leasing experience so those customers can focus on
their entrepreneurial dreams and run their businesses
efficiently.
At North Forest, they do their best to focus on and understand the needs of all types of
small businesses. They want the experience of
moving into a new professional or medical space
to be easy so they handle the entire construction, leasing and property management of the
entire office park. North Forest was established
by Buffalo natives Roy and Patty Jordan 30 years
ago and currently have close to a million square
feet in Buffalo, Rochester, Colorado and Texas.
Office park highlights include: private entrances, handicap accessibility in all spaces, efficient
floor plans, low utility costs and simple/flexible
leases.
The North Forest Office Space is an active
member of the Webster Chamber of Commerce as
well as the Rochester Business Alliance, Penfield Business Association, and
various Western New
York Commercial real
estate groups.
In addition to
their extensive community business involvement North Forest
employees
commit
time to many charitable activities. Since 2009 5 employees have donated
work days to help on-site construction for Habitat for
Humanity. North Forest has been the Lead ‘King Pin’
presenting sponsor for several years for the Strikes for
Abilities Bowling party benefiting CDS Monarch at
Clover Lanes with several employees’ participating in
the bowl. They also participated in several Rotary
functions like Adopt-a-highway, annual Pasta Dinner
and Project Christmas.
Please join me in recognizing North Forest Office Space as October’s Business of the Month!
Maplewood Nursing Home
Administrator Appointed to State
Board
Maplewood Nursing & Rehabilitation in Webster, NY
is pleased to announce that administrator Gregory Chambery has been appointed to the Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators (BENHA).
Appointed by the Commissioner of New York State’s
Department of Health, the BENHA is authorized to establish
standards for the examination, licensure and registration of
nursing home administrators.
By working hard to ensure that administrators are
thoroughly educated, trained and experienced before they
are granted a license and registered to practice in New York,
the BENHA plays a critical role in the NYSDOH’s efforts to
promote high quality nursing home care in New York.
Mr. Chambery recently concluded his two-year
term as Board Chair for New York State Health Facilities Association. With his BENHA appointment, Mr. Chambery continues his involvement in skilled nursing facility matters at
the state level.
Maplewood Nursing Home & Rehabilitation was
founded in 1947 by Thomas and Johanna Chambery as a
nursing center in the City of Rochester. The facility is currently located in the Village of Webster and is owned and
operated by Gregory Chambery, grandson of Thomas and
Johanna.

Important Dates to Remember
Henderson Book Drive a Success!
Henderson Ford brought two F-150’s full of books to
students at School #52 in Rochester on October 1st. Students
clapped and yelled their “hellos” to Mr. Henderson during
this fourth annual event.
Books have been collected since July to give to the
students and were dropped off at Steinmiller Insurance in
Webster, A Different Point of View in Pittsford, Edge Advertising Group in Fairport and Omero’s Clothes in Rochester.
Over the four years, the Henderson Ford book drive
has collected thousands of books from the community for the
elementary aged students. Students pick books from each
year’s stash to bring home with them. This year, they are
being encouraged to bring their chosen books back to exchange them for new reads.
After the books were brought inside, the school held
and assembly to thank Randy Henderson, president of Henderson Foard, for orchestrating the book drive every year.
Randy told them, “If you come to Henderson Ford for a job
someday, you will need to know how to read.”
New this year was a student essay contest where
each fifth and sixth grader wrote a short essay on what the
Henderson Book Drive has meant to them and their school.
Each of the five winners read their essay out loud during the
assembly.

Help Make A Dream Come True!
“Delivering Meals, One Smile At A Time!”
You and your company are needed!
With your help, our meal recipients will be able to enjoy good nutrition as they remain in the safety
and comfort of their own homes for as long as possible.
Our Adopt-A-Route program joins together groups of co-workers, assuming responsibility for a route
on a weekly basis. Adopt-A-Route volunteers take turns delivering the meals each week during their
lunch hour. Large and small companies across the Greater Rochester area have discovered that Meals
On Wheels is a perfect fit for their employees.
Currently we serve meals to thirty-three people in Webster.
It takes up to 40 volunteers a week to deliver the meals to the participants.
How does it work?
• Volunteers deliver meals once a month during their lunch hour with a co-worker.
• Typically, no one employee is out of the office for more than one hour a month.
• Meal delivery allows for great corporate social responsibility with minimal cost.
What are the benefits?
• Creates better employee communication and promotes team building.
• Allows busy people to give back to the community without taking away time from their families on
evenings and weekends.
• Your company is seen as a community partner who cares.
• Delivering meals builds exceptional employee morale.
How else can we help?
Warmest Wishes Campaign: We provide the most vulnerable of our population with a holiday gift
bag delivered in December. The bag contains a lap blanket, a placemat, personal care items such as a
toothbrush and toothpaste, as well as some fun things like a crossword puzzle book. We need
donations of items, assistance assembling and delivering the bags.
How do we get involved?
Call Julie Cunningham at 787-2233 x 8808.
Make the commitment! Make the call!
Fact Sheet
“Delivering Meals, One Smile At A Time!”
Visiting Nurse Service of Rochester and Monroe County created the Meals On Wheels program in 1958
to meet the nutritional needs of the growing number of homebound residents in our community. This
program was the third home-delivered meal program in the United States. It was the first in New York
State to be accredited by the Meals On Wheels Association of America and is one of only 20 programs in
the United States to be Magnet Accredited.
Meal Recipients:
 More than 730 recipients are currently enrolled
 More than 1,500 people were served in 2013
 More than 250,000 meals served annually
 Millions of meals served since 1958
Recipients’ Eligibility: Anyone can request Meals On Wheels service - friends, family,
physician, or recipients themselves. No person is denied service on the grounds of race, color, religion,
sex, national origin, disability or marital status. To be eligible for Meals On Wheels recipients must have
a medical condition that puts them at nutritional risk.
Meals: All meals are prepared under the supervision of professionally trained personnel and monitored by
a Registered Dietitian. The Greater Rochester Chapter of the American Red Cross prepares most meals.
All meals are lower in sodium and fat than commercially prepared meals. Meal delivery options include:
 Daily meals - which can be modified to meet a variety of medical needs
 Weekly meals – frozen meals and groceries
 Weekend meals – frozen meals delivered during the week
 Kosher meals – prepared by the Jewish Home of Rochester, limited delivery area
Volunteers: Caring volunteers are vital to the Meals On Wheels program. Volunteers deliver nearly all
meals.
 Up to 200 volunteers are needed each day to deliver meals
 More than 2,500 volunteers deliver meals each year
 Volunteers provide a daily check of the well-being of the recipient
Funding: A limited amount of financial aid is available to individuals who qualify. Funding is provided
through a variety of public and private sources, including the United Way, community donations, Monroe
County Office for the Aging (Federal and State funds), Long Term Home Health Care programs and NYS
Department of Health/AIDS Institute. The amount paid by recipients varies by payment plan or funding
agency.
Tax-deductible contributions can be made by contacting Visiting Nurse Foundation at
