Celebrating the Holy Ones.
Next weekend many of our neighborhoods will be full of little vampires and witches and Supermen and honeybees. It’s Hallowe’en. The
festival of Hallowe’en has its roots in ancient times when the shortening of the days and the bringing in of the harvest were celebrated in
various ways. The fact that the nights grew longer, at a time when the setting of the sun was basically the end of human activity for that
day (no flicking a switch for light!) it was feared that the powers of darkness were taking over and needed to be either warded off or placated. So people went to some lengths to achieve this.
With the coming of Christianity, placating demons was frowned upon and the Church instituted the Feast of All Saints, or All Hallows (holy
ones) to replace the pagan festivities of former times. And so we have Hallowe’en (the Eve of All Hallows Day).
So what we should be celebrating really is not the scary demons we wish to placate and fend off, but rather the triumph of God’s love
shown to us in the glory of the saints.
But everyone likes an excuse for a good party and for dressing up and there’s no need to stop centuries of tradition - although I have to
confess to having closed down a ‘haunted house’ run by school parents. It was just too scary with headless bodies and things leaping
out at little children, and had no reference to God and his love so I decided it wasn’t appropriate for a Catholic School. I’m not sure that it
won me many fans, but I felt it was the right thing to do.
As long as we remember that it’s meant to be fun, that it isn’t about evil or ‘things that go bump in the night,’ then go ahead and enjoy
yourself. Personally, I don’t enjoy being scared out of my wits and can’t imagine paying good hard cash for the opportunity but, if that’s
your thing, then go for it.
On Sunday at the 10.00 Mass we will be recalling those who have died and were buried from St. Ann over the past year. We remember
them with affection and we trust them to the love of God which we have celebrated the day before in the wonders He has done in All the
Saints. We believe that, just as the grace of God has brought the saints to the happiness of heaven, so also will that grace bring our
loved ones to that same happiness.
Have a happy Hallowe’en, don’t eat too much chocolate (or is that a contradiction?!)

MEETING PLACE AND BROTHERHOOD
Dear Saint Ann community, The Diocese of Orlando is a multicultural local Church. Few Dioceses in the world are as fortunate as ours in central Florida due to the constant influx of people from all
over the planet.
The state of Florida sees people from all the continents daily.
God is also blessing us with vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Many of our priests
have prepared for their ministry in their own home dioceses and then have migrated to the Diocese of Orlando. They come to
share the richness of the ecclesial reality itself and adapt to the culture of the American church where the faithful are consolidated
in works and faith is reflected in their lives.
It is very interesting to see the lifestyle of many people born and educated in American culture. This is essentially a
multicultural world. The organization, the sense of perseverance, the seriousness with which the Bible study is done, the
knowledge of religion, the way of celebrating the liturgy with sobriety, silence and piety and generosity in giving and development as well as completing projects, demonstrating the ability and effort to comply best with the instructions set out so that all
resources can function, and are used appropriately. This is how democracy is strengthened linked to faith. Both sides have much to
learn yet much to give this world of constant and innovative exchanges.
Ask God for those who have immigrated to this country; the priests and lay faithful, to be open to the continuous learning process that will enable us to keep generating the balance that the world needs to follow the word of God
filling all creation with all his wealth and love.

AN EXPERIENCE OF FRUITFUL FAITH
I want to start by thanking God for the opportunity I've had to travel from my country, Venezuela. I was able to
get permission from my Bishop, Mario Moronta, to visit with Father Robert Mitchell and Fr. Frank Lobo and share a little pastoral experience in the Diocese of Orlando and the members of the Saint .Ann Catholic Community Church in Haines City, Florida.
All this would not have been possible without the help of God and the Bishop’s of Orlando and San Cristobal’s approval. To have permission and receive faculties to exercise my priestly ministry in this Diocese has been a blessing. That is why at this time I want to repeat the words of the Psalmist: " The Lord has done great things for me.” - Psalm 125. The welcome that greeted me when I first arrived
from the St. Ann parishioners was also repeated by Fr. Robert when he returned.
I celebrated my first Mass in this parish in Spanish the next day. Although it is usually offered in English, the congregation was happily
satisfied having a Mass and not a Communion Service. We also had the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at the very end of the Mass.
My fears disappeared when I received a flood of smiles and very warm greetings from those who were present. A number of people that
come daily to the Eucharist: Hispanics and people that just speak in English. It is noteworthy that despite the cultural diversity and my
English language limitations, it was a great gift that brought us all together as brothers. That gift is called ’Faith’. So I will return to my
country taking all of you in my heart and in my prayers, hoping someday soon to be able to return with love in my heart and a bond of
union among the brethren. I can only say God bless and protect you. Be united in Faith and prayer.

for "for those who have asked us for our prayers, especially

The Altar & Rosary Society would like some help laundering the towels and purificators used at Mass. Volunteers
would only be responsible for one month at a time. Please

Baby Bottle Boomerang is BACK! The Columbiettes
will be distributing bottles for their Baby Bottle Boomerang program on the Weekend of Oct. 18-19 to support
the needs of Life Choice Pregnancy Center in Winter

this weekend. Fill it with your spare change or cash or a
check made out to Life Choice Pregnancy Center and

ORLANDO CONCERT BAND with Organist Dr. William Picher. FREE CONCERT benefiting Catholic Charities.
Directed by Jon Territo, the Orlando Concert Band will present a program at the Basilica consisting of music by various
composers including John Philip Sousa, James Curnow and
portions of the famous “Organ Symphony” by French composer Camile Saint Saens on Saturday, November 1st at 2:00 PM.
Enjoy the thrilling music from the sixty piece Band as they
will gloriously resound in the perfect acoustical atmosphere of
the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe: 8300 Vineland Avenue in Orlando. The Band, Central
Florida’s premier wind and percussion ensemble was founded
in 1989 and plays a variety of the traditional, sacred, popular
and patriotic music one would expect to hear on weekends at a
small-town bandstand in rural America.
The members of the Orlando Concert Band are donating their
services for this concert, in order that all proceeds may go to
Catholic Charities of Central Florida in support of their programs to serve the poor of central Florida. No tickets are required. A freewill offering will be taken.

The best of times, the worst of times
We live in dangerous and volatile times, no denying. Perhaps you hold back from giving more of
yourself to God and neighbor for fear that it will
all go to waste. Why bother if the world is so
messed up, right? Wrong! It is times like these
that demand our greatest commitment. John of
Capistrano didn’t hold back, and he lived in some
pretty turbulent times himself back in the 14th
century. One third of Western Europe, and 40
percent of the clergy, was wiped out by bubonic
plague. The church was in schism and great powers warred. All of it makes our own day seem
positively tame. Don’t hold back—get some skin

UNA FRUCTIFEREA EXPERIENCIA DE FE
Deseo iniciar dando gracias a Dios por la oportunidad que he tenido en salir de mi
país Venezuela, así como el permiso de mi Obispo Mario del Valle para atender la invitación del P. Robert Mitchell y Frank Lobo de compartir una pequeña experiencia pastoral
en la Diócesis de Orlando con los miembros de la Parroquia Sta. Ana de Haines City, Florida.
Todo lo anterior no hubiera sido posible sin la ayuda de Dios y el Visto bueno de los obispos de las Diócesis de Orlando y de San Cristóbal. Recibir las facultades para Ejercer el Ministerio Sacerdotal en esta Diócesis
ha sido una bendición. Es por esto que quiero en este momento hacer mías las palabras del salmista: “El Señor
ha estado grande (conmigo) y (estoy) alegre”. Salmo 125
La alegría que me trajo a la Parroquia Sta. Ana la he recibido también de su Párroco el P. Robert desde el
día jueves 16 de octubre cuando finalmente tuvimos la oportunidad de conversar personalmente. Al siguiente
día, la celebración de mi primera Misa en esta parroquia. Aun cuando normalmente es ofrecida en inglés, la feligresía tomó con alegría que fuese celebrada en español junto con la exposición del Santísimo al finalizar la Misa.
Mis temores desaparecieron cuando recibí una avalancha de sonrisas y saludos muy cordiales por parte
de quienes estaban presentes, un buen número de personas que acuden diariamente a la Eucaristía, hispanos y
norteamericanos.
Es de resaltar que a pesar de la diversidad cultural y la limitación del idioma ingles por mi parte, hubo un
gran don que nos unió a todos como hermanos, ese don es llamado: La Fe. Por tanto, me retorno a mi país llevándolos en mi corazón y en mis oraciones, con la esperanza de algún día no muy lejano retornar y con el amor
en mí corazón, vínculo de unión entre los hermanos en Cristo. Sólo me resta decirles que Dios los bendiga y la
Virgen los proteja. Unidos en la Fe y la oración. FELIZ DIA NACIONAL DEL SACERDOTE

LUGAR DE ENCUENTRO Y FRATERNIDAD.
Querida comunidad de Santa Ana. La Diócesis de Orlando es una Iglesia multicultural. En la Florida
Central tenemos la fortuna, como en pocas Diócesis del mundo, de tener una constante afluencia de personas
de distintos lugares del planeta. Todos los continentes hacen de la florida un lugar especial para ser visitado diariamente cada año. Dios nos está bendiciendo con vocaciones al
sacerdocio y a la vida Religiosa. Inclusive, muchos de nuestros sacerdotes, que se han
preparado para su ministerio en sus propias Diócesis y hemos emigrado hacia la Diócesis de Orlando para compartir la riqueza de la propia realidad eclesial y adaptarla a la
cultura de la iglesia americana donde sus fieles han consolidado en obras la fe que se
refleja en sus vidas.
Es muy interesante ver el estilo de vida de un gran número de personas nacidas y educadas en la cultura
norteamericana. Este es esencialmente un mundo multicultural. La organización, el sentido de la perseverancia, la seriedad con la que se realiza el estudio bíblico, el conocimiento de la religión, el modo de celebrar la liturgia con sobriedad, silencio y piedad y la generosidad al ofrendar y el desarrollo como también la finalización
de los proyectos, demuestran la capacidad y el esfuerzo por cumplir lo mejor posible con las instrucciones establecidas para que todos los recursos puedan funcionar y se utilicen apropiadamente. Es así como la democracia
se va fortaleciendo unida a la fe. Unos y otros tenemos mucho que aprender y a la vez mucho que darle a este
mundo de intercambios constantes y novedosos.
Pidámosle a Dios que los que hemos inmigrado a este país, sacerdotes y fieles laicos sepamos abrirnos
al proceso de aprendizaje continuo que nos hará capaces de seguir generando el balance que el mundo de hoy
necesita para que la palabra de Dios siga llenando la creación entera con toda su riqueza y amor. FELIZ DIA

Formación de Fe:
Quiero recordarles que No estoy en la oficina los jueves y
viernes. Mis horas de oficina son: Lunes, Martes, Miércoles de 9:00 a.m. POR FAVOR, llame a mi oficina antes de
venir para asegurarse que estoy disponible.
GRACIAS, a todos los Padre de Familias que hicieron el
procedimiento de llegada y salida el Sábado pasado un
Éxito. Realmente esto demuestra que trabajando unidos,
podemos mantener a nuestros estudiantes seguros. El procedimiento de salida fue más rápido y seguro. Todos los
padres o adultos designados que son responsables de recoger y dejar a los estudiantes deben ESTACIONARSE
FRENTE A LA IGLESIA y caminar el niño/a al salón
de clase. Usted firmará a la entrada y a la salida de su
niño/a y caminara con él/ella a su vehículo. Los padres
de familia no pueden estacionarse frente al edificio del
Padre Carlos. Esta área esta designada para los maestros. Si usted no ha pagado la cuota de la matrícula, puede hacerlo el sábado antes o después de dejar su niño/a
en clase. Los maestros y yo dependemos de su apoyo en

Reír, es arriesgarse a parecer un tonto.
Llorar es arriesgarse a parecer un sentimental.
Hacer algo por alguien, es arriesgarse a involucrarse.
Expresar sentimientos, es arriesgarse a mostrar tu
verdadero yo.
Exponer tus ideas y tus sueños, es arriesgarse a
perderlos.
Amar, es arriesgarse a no ser correspondido.
Vivir, es arriesgarse a morir.
Esperar, es arriesgarse a la desesperanza.
Lanzarte, es arriesgarse a fallar.
Pero los riesgos deber ser tomados, porque el peligro mas grande en la vida es no arriesgarse.
La persona que no arriesga, no hace, ni tiene nada.
Se pueden evitar sufrimientos y preocupaciones,
pero simplemente no puede aprender, sentir, cambiar, crecer, amar y vivir…
Solo una persona que arriesga es libre
