EE 446/646 – Fall 2014 – Test 1 (Take Home Portion) A. Use TMY3 data of Las Vegas, NV, to calculate the average daily solar energy – for each of the 12 months - received by a fixed 1 m2 collector that faces south (Φc= 0) with a tilt Σ = L = 36o. Use a reflectance of ρ = 0.25. B. Repeat the above if the collector is mounted on a single-axis tracker (polar mount type). C. Repeat the above if the collector is mounted on a two-axis tracker. Plot your results on the same graph for comparison purposes. Notations: Direct Normal Irradiance (DNI) = IB Diffuse Horizontal Irradiance (DHI) = IDH Beam Horizontal Irradiance (BHI) = IBH Global Horizontal Irradiance (GHI) = IBH + IDH
