Since May of 1997, Francis George has been the
Archbishop of Chicago, our Cardinal since February of
1998. With the appointment of Bishop Blase Cupich,

church. Our parish has come to know him, respect him,
and look forward to his move to our campus.
Next weekend our parish will offer you the opportunity
to say Thank You to Cardinal George. After all the
Masses, pen and paper will be provided for you to write
a note or sign your name thanking him for his leadership
and dedication. All of these pages will be put together in
a binder and presented to him before November 17th.
If you wish to being a personal card or photo, baskets
will be available. They too will be presented at the same
time as the binder.

Each year our parish provides a Christmas gift card for our
guests who attend Thursday and Friday Suppers. Since
there are so many requests as the holidays approach, we
ask for your help early.
Please consider buying a $10 gift card from Walgreens
(accessible to all our guests) and dropping it off at the
rectory or in the collection. If easier for you, put a check
or cash in an envelope marked (Christmas Gift Card) and
we will purchase it for you. We need 250 cards.
Thank You!
WARM GLOVES NEEDED
This is the time of year when we look at our
lives, and realize how grateful we are to God for
his many blessings. We have a way for you to express your
gratitude by an act of generosity on your part.
This year, the weather has changed abruptly from summer
to winter. Many people who spend a great deal of time
outside do not have warm gloves - or a way to buy them.
Holy Name will be collecting 300 pairs of warm winter
gloves - mostly for men - to be given out at the Thursday
and Friday Suppers near the feast of St. Nicholas in early
December.
You are welcome to bring gloves to the rectory at 730 N.
Wabash by Sunday. November 30th.
CAREER FULFILLMENT COMMUNITY
Looking for a Job or a Career Change?
Thank you Greater Chicago Food Depository
(GCFD) Volunteers!
The Human Concerns Commission extends a
very big thank you to the group of volunteers
who went to the GCFD on Saturday, October
4th. Our volunteers helped to pack over 22,000
pounds of canned food, which set a new packing
record at the GCFD! We were able to help our
community while having fun.
Our next trip to the GCFD will be on Saturday,
November 1st from 8:30am to noon.
If you are interested in volunteering, please send an email to
Anthony Sassali at [email protected] for more
details. To ensure a volunteering spot, please email early if you
are interested. We look forward to you join us in helping this
great cause!
Holy Name Cathedral's Career Fulfillment Community will hold
its regular second Thursday of the month meeting on November
13 beginning at 6:30pm in our Parish Center. Our presenters
always provide very useful advice for job seekers and career
changers, and our meetings are enjoyable, interactive and
informative. Refer to upcoming bulletins for additional details
regarding our November 13 meeting.
The Career Fulfillment Community is intended as a forum, not
only for those seeking employment, but as a sustaining, faithbased network where anyone seeking to mentor, coach or share
their job/career/vocational knowledge can help those seeking
assistance.
Please join us, we always welcome new members. Bring a friend
or two. Questions? Just e-mail Barton DeLacy
at [email protected].

Our annual August appeal has begun. Have you made your
donation yet? This appeal funds our major activities.
Please contribute before the November 1st deadline.
Do you shop at Jewel?
Are you saving the green stamps for Cuisinart cookware? If
you are not, we are!!!
Last year the Jewel promotion featured stamps for dishware.
Your collective response to that appeal was 16 sets (4 table
settings of four). They were all shared, some to parishioners
and others to House of Good Shepherd who help families with
domestic violence start a new household. As one parishioner
said, “I have never had a matching set of four for 4 people in
my entire life!”
So if you have any extra not-to-be-used green stamps
throughout these next few months, please consider dropping
them off in the collection or at the rectory to the attention of
Fr. John Boivin.

Holy Name Cathedral House of Good Shepherd
For the past several years, each July our parish has collected
household items, gift cards and cash donations for the
House of Good Shepherd. This ministry reaches out to
families experiencing domestic violence. The Sisters of the
Good Shepherd offer housing, healing and support to these
families as well as a new beginning to live without the
violence.
On Sunday, Nov. 16th, at 2:00 in the Club
Room of the parish center our Black Catholic
parishioners welcome Sr. Lakshmie
Napagoda, Executive Director of the House
of Good Shepherd, to share with us details of
this outreach and ways we can support their
good work.
Sr. Lakshmie is originally from Sri Lanka,
joined our Catholic faith in 1984, and entered
the congregation in 1986, with final vows in 1995. She
brings over 20 years of experience to this ministry.
Everyone is welcome!
