Board Buzz….
There is so much happening at SCA. The Board met last
Monday evening for over 5 hours. We had 19 items on our
agenda (typical meetings may have 6-8). God allowed
the Board to focus on the tasks at hand and we were able to
get through the entire agenda.
John Antolick brought a report regarding accreditation. Accreditation is something
the Board has wanted to achieve for years. Many thanks to Melissa Feldman, our
new History teacher. Not only does she bring 8 years of experience in teaching
History, she has been key in helping another school earn ACSI accreditation. She
has been a huge asset in this process.
Among several other items of business, we voted to host the NE area Awana games
on March 14, 2015. This will be a neat day where many families of school aged
children will be on our campus. The Board sees this as a unique marketing idea.
The International Fellowship program has been revived and we hope to have as many
as six students here next school year. There is even a chance of getting one or two
students before the end of this school year.
We also worked for quite some time and adopted our current year budget. God will
see us through to a balanced budget again by next year. In order to do that, we need
to bring in new students. John met with another prospective family on Tuesday.
Last spring the Board agreed we needed to form additional committees. We've
always had committees for finance, fundraising, etc. However, now that the Board is
growing again we are looking to form additional committees (building and grounds,
athletics, alumni, student activities, etc.). Each committee will be chaired by a board
member(s), however we would like to have parents and others join these committees
as well. We also need parent and grandparent volunteers now more than ever. A list
will soon be distributed of areas where help is most needed.
The Board meets again next Monday for an informal strategy session. Our next
board meeting is Monday, November 10 at 6:00 pm. Our meetings are open but we
typically don’t have parents attend. We were thrilled that ten parents came to the
October meeting. This shows us that parents are interested in what's going on and
we want to continue to keep the lines of communication open.
For many years, the Board policy has been that anyone is welcome to attend the
meetings, however, if you wish to bring a topic to speak about, we ask that you call
the office at least a week in advance to register. This allows us to plan our time and
also gather information regarding your question. For the sake of time, we have set a
limit of ten minutes per family unless the Board grants further time.
God is with SCA. We have hit a valley but He is ready to take us to a new peak!

School closing/delay information:
It's hard to believe that we could have snow in a couple of short
weeks! In an effort to prepare for school closings and delays, you
may want to consider signing up for text/email alerts. You can do
so by visiting http://www.pahomepage.com/sms. You can also
go to http://wnep.com/weather/school-closing/ . This page will
give instructions for getting push button notifications on your
mobile phone (available on Android/
IOS). Once you have installed the app,
click on the "*" in the upper right corner
and turn on the notifications you'd like to
receive.
Hot lunch Friday:
Pizza will be available every Friday for
purchase. The cost is $1.50 per slice for
cheese or pepperoni. Make it a meal by
adding chips, drink, and dessert for $1.00 more! Please be sure
to use the new order form posted on RenWeb under “Resource
Documents”. Orders and money are due each Thursday morning
by 10:00 am. Late orders and preorders can not be accepted.
This year we will be holding an Art
Exhibit along with the Book Fair on
Monday, November 3rd, from 6-8
pm in the Elementary Bldg. The
book fair will be open all week.
However, Monday night we will have a special time
to view students’ work and shop for books. I would
like to have cookies and punch for the
students and parents to enjoy during
the evening. We are looking for
volunteers to provide one dozen
cookies each for us to share. If you
are interested, please let Tiffany in the
Elementary Office know you will be
donating cookies so that we can be sure we have
enough. Please send them to school the morning of
November 3rd. (They will be stored in the Art Room.
Also, please send them in containers that can be
thrown away or at least mark them clearly so they
can be returned to you). Thank you for your help as
we take a little time to celebrate our students’
achievements and encourage them in their creative
endeavors.

The Lady Patriots continued their late
season surge and moved one step
closer to a playoff berth on Friday when
they defeated Triboro Christian Academy by a score of 8-5. Emily Howell (14)
led the way with 4 goals and 1 assist
followed by Caroline Majeski (25) who
scored 3 goals. Stephanie Severance
chipped in with a goal and an assist.
Eden Brock had 2 assists with Naomi
and Jessica Paull each contributing an
assist of their own. The Lady Patriots
wrap up the regular season this Saturday vs. Twin Tiers. A win will clinch a
spot in next weeks NYPENN playoffs.
The Patriots also came away with a victory. The final score was 4-2. The Patriots were led by Luke Randall (7) who
scored a goal and had 3 assists. Goals
were also scored by Jonah Howell (4),
Matt Borden (6), and Tyler Hubbell (1).
Spencer Zimmerman, William
McWhorter, and Tyler Hubbell combined for 17 saves.
The next game for the Patriots is Saturday October 18. The
girls will start at 2:00 and the boys will start at 4:00. In
between the 2 games we will be honoring our seniors and
having a bake auction with the proceeds going to the senior
class. Be sure to come out to SCA to support our soccer
teams as well as our seniors.
On Tuesday the 11th and 12th grade PA History class traveled to Bushkill Falls. We were able to
witness some glory of our Creator displayed through PA's stunning fall foliage while hiking almost
three miles around a network of eight waterfalls. The class also enjoyed a Native American exhibit
complete with an authentic longhouse and a wildlife exhibit.
We enjoyed the excitement at our Pep Rally on Wednesday. We played games and
each class made signs for Senior Day and our final soccer game on Saturday.
