Ossie and Elaine Rentsch, the world’s original presenters of Tom Bowen’s technique which they aptly

without doubt the world’s most knowledgeable presenters of Bowen at all levels from beginner to

Autumn 2014
Understanding Bowen from the Ayurveda Perspective
Farida Irani’s two-day course took place in Hammersmith at the Grove Neighbourhood
Centre during September, giving the attending practitioners far more than just a taste of
Ayurvedic principles and how Bowen relates to them. I am sure that the dozen or so participants would agree that we had a veritable banquet, as any time spent with Farida is ‘a
real treat’ – in Nicola Hok’s words.
The webinar in July had already whetted my appetite for more, as Farida had talked then
for two hours at breakneck speed, introducing us to this Science of Life which goes back
40,000 to 50,000 years as an oral tradition and in written texts, with Ayu meaning ‘Life’
and Veda meaning ‘Science’ or ‘Knowledge’.
We were a small select group of Bowen therapists from all over Britain, and it was great to
have highly experienced instructors with us like Ellen Cobb, Helen Mary Perkins and Nicola. We learned about the Doshas, (pronounced Doe-shas and not Dosh-as) or three body
types; the chakras (pronounced Chak-ras and not Shak-ras); the five elements; the three
qualities of the mind, and how Ayurveda balances these through the marmas and the nadis.
Farida also explained how Bowen affects these marmas, or vital points on the body, because the moves are often directly on or next to them.
The first day started with a short guided meditation to ground us and unify the group’s
intention, and then we learned a Yoga breathing technique to balance the lunar and solar energies of our left and right nostrils.
The two days also covered all the BRMs and a lot of other Bowen procedures including the Lower Respiratory, the Head and the Pelvic, as we were taught how they affected the health of the body from an Ayurvedic point of view. So much information was given that
I now feel I can answer almost any patient’s question about how each Bowen move is going to help them feel and get better.
Day Two gave us an in-depth explanation of the Bowtech Ease oil, and Helen Mary Perkins was also in attendance as the UK representative supplying these oils. We learned about the properties of all the ingredients in the oil, and how they can help the body to heal
various conditions, even if not applied directly to the problematic area, since the oils go through the olfactory system so quickly, as
well as being absorbed through the skin, so it is important to use only a very little. I was pleased to hear how to mist the oils, using a
water spray bottle, and we were told that misting the Bowtech Ease in our clinics has an energetic cleansing effect on the atmosphere.
Farida also had a few copies of her small booklet to sell, explaining all about the Bowtech Ease.
Another gem of information concerned the Holy Basil plant, or Tulsi, which apparently is the only plant that does not breathe out
carbon dioxide but always gives off oxygen, so it can be used in a bedroom. In Turkey these plants are widespread in summer, as people put them on tables both inside and outside the house, to ward off flies and insects. I will now be keeping one in the bedroom, as I
adore the smell anyway.
Another jewel of information concerned black sesame seed and its use as a base oil, along with many other uses. I spent my last afternoon in the UK trying to buy a bottle of this, but can confirm that it is not to be found in Holland and Barrett, Revital, Wholefoods,
or Neal’s Yard! Knowing I could find it in Turkey under its Turkish name of çörek otu yağ I was astonished to find a new bottle of this
on the shelf at home, where I had earmarked it a while back for a friend who had left Turkey before I could give it to her. Surprisingly,
it had the English written underneath the Turkish, and called itself Black Cumin Seed Oil. Perhaps this name will help readers to find
it more easily in the UK! It is important to find a cold pressed, pure oil, I hasten to add. The uses for this oil are many, so I would
recommend you find Farida’s book and explore her website – see below.
Farida provided detailed notes for us as a handout booklet,
and introduced us to the scents of her lime oil and facial oil,
among others, as well as the Bowtech Ease. She had also
brought us all a tiny kangaroo brooch to pin on, as souvenirs
from Australia. It was a very nice gesture and further demonstrated this lady’s great generosity of spirit.
I could write pages more about this course, but I urge you to
add it to your CPD wish list as soon as possible. It was pure
magic and has given me a mine of information and material.
Thank You Farida. Your teaching has inspired me.

Benefits of Bowtech Ease
by Helen Mary Perkins, exclusive distributor UK and Europe
The benefits of Bowtech Ease, developed by Farida Irani, are well documented especially in the relief of painful inflammation of bunions
and other joints.
This natural Ayurvedic aromatherapy blend is safe, effective and easy to use at home to enhance treatment. For non-Bowen therapists it can
also be used as part of clinical practice.
Having discovered it while living and working in Australia I was determined to make it more widely available
when I returned home to the UK. Since then we have worked hard to promote its benefits not only within
the Bowen community but to other professional therapists and the wider public.
I was therefore very much looking forward to being with Farida again at her workshop in September, and
gaining deeper insight into Bowen from the Ayurveda perspective, and to understand more about how the
therapeutic oils in Bowtech Ease can help balance the body.
Bowtech Ease is available in 25ml and 50ml size with dropper, plus a handy 10ml rollerball for retail sale.
This is our most popular item and is backed by a host of testimonials from therapists and happy end users.
A combination of sizes is also available in a re-usable Starter Box. Orders placed by October 31st 2014 will
have free P&P. A full range of Bowen supplies are available on my website, please go to
www.bowensuppliesbyhelen.com for orders and enquiries. See you soon!

Testimonials from SBP2 Students
Best venue ever. Professional electrically operated couches made all the difference. - Marco Ferro
The new venue was good, and I hope we can continue to use it! Every course has a ‘feel’ about it, and this one was unusual for its
gentleness and calmness. Whether this was due to a new location and the fact that people did not have to worry about bringing
couches, I don’t know. It just worked. I also like the fact that we were working in the university’s medical building. There were
courses being taught and several rooms with beds in them, so it felt as if Bowen was on the same professional level. Really enjoyed being there. Ossie and Elaine were just as warm and inspiring as always. It’s such a pleasure to work with them. - Cindy
Galvin
I found it very rewarding to meet up with such an international group. Ossie and Elaine continue to bring the love, enthusiasm
and trust with the Bowen technique to such a high level. For me personally, I felt more confident and enthusiastic to continue my
work with such a great technique. - Richard Kelly
It was before dawn that I left Glasgow for Sheffield by car. Throughout the journey I was much scared. This condition of mine
was because of the respect and high profile in my eyes for both Ossie and Elaine. I was in a state of confusion that how I would be
learning from such a high profile couple and the pupil and heir of Mr Tom Bowen (the inventor of magic hands) but my fear was
turned into pleasing surprise once I found jolly Ossie and friendly and caring Elaine. Because of Asian background and with a little
command on language, I didn't feel sense of strangerness throughout the course and two days passed so quickly that I kept on feeling thirst of having more to learn. It was really happy moments spent with the bowen therapists who came from all over the UK to
attend the course. This course also provided me a chance to meet and spend my time with my lovely teacher Mr Trevor. Lastly a
big applause to the UK Bowen Training for arranging such successful course. - Farrukh Mehmood
