School located in Okotoks. This is a full time position
(37.5 hours per week) that runs concurrent with the
school year.
The successful candidate will have outstanding public
relations and organizational skills and the ability to
deal with multiple and changing priorities. The ability
to work in a team environment is essential, as is attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines. A solid
understanding of accounting procedures is necessary
for success in this position. A high level of computer
literacy including Windows, MS Office, internet and
email are required, experience with PowerSchool and
SRB-Atrieve would be an asset. Prior experience in a
school setting as well as familiarity within the Catholic
environment would be preferred. Duties include, but
are not limited to maintaining records; accounts processing; and general office routines.

Runner to heat things up in Qatar
Black Diamond: David Proctor to run in 100km world championships

Training for a 100-kilometre race can knock the
air out of you.

David Proctor from Black
Diamond is spending his
nights sleeping in a hypoxic tent to prepare for the
100km world championships in Doha, Qatar on
Nov. 21.
“It mimics high altitude
and limits the amount of
oxygen that is available
to you,” Proctor said on
Thursday.
“My resting
heartbeat is about 48 beats
per minutes and my O2
levels are 98 or so.
“You struggle in there.
My heart rate last night in
the tent was 63 and my O2
levels were 91.”
Proctor has the tent set
to simulate an altitude of
10,000 ft. Sure, Qatar is
only 33 feet above sea level,
but when you are running
in the desert, hey every
little bit helps.
“What you are doing is
creating more red blood
cells and more hemoglobin in your blood,” Proctor
said. “Hey, why not try
sleeping at 10,000 feet
above sea-level and see if
it helps?”
He said reigning 5,000m
and 10,000m Olympic
champion Mo Fara and
Olympic swimmer Michael
Phelps have used the tent.
“It’s not going to hurt,”
Proctor said with a chuckle.
He needs all the sleep he
can get.
Proctor isn’t the kind of
guy who puts his feet up
after spending a long day
as a massage therapist in
downtown Calgary.
“My last long run was
Monday (Oct. 27) when at
about 7 o’clock at night I
did about 57km into the
middle of the night.

because you are so tired
after a long day at work.”
Proctor qualified for the
world championship by
winning the 2013 100km
Canadian championship in
Victoria, B.C. in a time of
seven hours and 51 minutes.
He has his work cut out
for him in Qatar.
The course will be a fivekm loop, which he has to
run 20 times. He will have
plenty of quality-company
on the course.
“The competition is
going to be really tough,”
Proctor said. “I have set
three goals. My A goal
is 7:30:00, my B goal is
7:45:00 and my C goal is
under 8 hours.
“If I was to make my
B goal, I still wouldn’t be
cracking the top 50.”
The race starts at 6
p.m. in Qatar. Although it
won’t be in the dead heat
of the hot desert sun, the
temperature will rival those
of a summer day in Black
Diamond.
“The average temperature this time of year is
about 26, but it doesn’t
really cool down at night,”
Proctor said. “I will start
doing some heat training
during my taper. I will be
hoping on my spin-trainer (a stationary bike) for
a minimum of two hours
with a space heater going
so I can crank it up to
about 35 degrees.”
He admits his sport isn’t
for everybody.
“We are a little bit crazy,
absolutely,” he said.
There won’t be too
much rest for Proctor after
Qatar. He has another run
in December in which an
eight-hour run will make
a dent in his trip to the finish line.
This time, he is going to
be running all day.
