AmberManor On Campus Happy Veterans Day! “How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!” – Maya Angelou Whether you are a veteran or the spouse of a veteran, you have, in one way or another, sacrificed for the safety this nation. As you age, perhaps you have considered how you will finance long-term nursing care and/or assisted living, should you require these services. There are certain benefits of which you may be unaware, that can assist with paying for such care. After all, you deserve to be taken care of as President Lincoln envisioned when he said “to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow....” 801 East Illinois Street Petersburg, IN 47567 Phone: 812.354.3001 Fax: 812.354.3008 www.ambermanorhc.com November 2014 Aid and Attendance Pension If you a wartime veteran, or the surviving spouse of a wartime veteran, with a medical condition that requires the assistance of another person, or you need to receive this care from a home health care agency or in an assisted or independent living community, a nursing home, or even from a family member, you may be eligible to receive an increased monthly pension from the Veterans Administration called Aid and Attendance (A&A). To qualify for A&A, the veteran needs to have served at least 90 days of active duty in the military, where at least one day of this service occurred during a wartime period, regardless of whether or not the veteran was engaged in combat. It also needs to be established by your physician that you require daily assistance by others to perform activities of daily living (bathing, feeding, dressing, toileting, adjusting prosthetic devices, or protecting yourself from the hazards of your daily environment). A Veteran may be eligible for up to $1,732 per month, while a surviving spouse may be eligible for up to $1,113 per month. A Veteran and spouse together may be eligible for up to $2,054 per month, and a Veteran with an ill spouse may be eligible for up to $1,360 per month. Life Settlement Another little-known benefit that may assist in paying for long-term care is the Life Settlement benefit (available to all senior citizens with a life insurance policy), which is the sale of one’s life insurance policy for an agreed-upon sum of money, often for an amount much greater than the cash surrender value. It is not a loan, and has no restrictions or requirements to be paid back. There are also no interest fees, upfront fees, or liens associated with a Life Settlement. We encourage you to take a closer look at all the programs and benefits available to assist with financing your long-term care/ assisted living needs, including the information above. The Life Settlement Fund Group is also an excellent resource and can be visited at www.lifecarefunding.com. It’s hard to believe we are approaching the Holidays. Amber Manor’s Thanksgiving dinner for residents and their families will be held 11/20/2014 at 6:00 p.m. Please R.S.V.P. by 11/17/2014 who your family member is and how many will be attending the dinner. We like to have a head count so we can better serve our guests. We look forward to our annual Thanksgiving Dinner and the fellowship, laughter, and memories that it brings to our campus. Amber Manor has sold homemade pies for the last two years and we want to continue that tradition. Along with selling coconut, pumpkin, and lemon pies we will sell dressing. You can order your pies and dressing by calling Amber Manor 812-354-3001 between November 10th-19th. Pies will sell for $12.00 and dressing for $8.00. The dressing will be prepared and in a pan but will not be baked. All of the proceeds go to, “Pike County Kids Christmas”. It is the goal of Kiwanis and Amber Manor to touch as many children as we can on Christmas Day who would not otherwise have a present on Christmas morning. Amber Manor will also auction a beautiful angel donated by our dietary staff, Larry Bottoms. This statue will be displayed in the lobby beginning the evening of our Thanksgiving Dinner and will be open for bid until 12/19/2014. The angel statue will make a lovely Christmas present. All of the proceeds from the auction will also go towards the, “Pike County Kids Christmas.” Thank you to everyone that contributes to the Amber Manor Care Center fundraisers. We are working towards the grand opening of our Assisted Living. The construction crew is working diligently to complete this project. We held a dinner in September at Amber Manor and invited all of those that had placed a deposit on our, soon to open, Assisted Living. It was a great time for people to meet and mingle. We also held a Town Hall Meeting on September 30th to share information and to answer any questions the public might have about our Assisted Living program. It is not too late to put a deposit down on a room and get your pick of the rooms available. Please call Candace Stull for information at 812-766-0247. Everyone is welcome to stop in at Amber Manor and meet with someone face to face to answer all of your questions. Our Assisted Living will meet all of our Trilogy Service Standards and give excellent care meeting and exceeding all of the customer expectations Amber Manor is known for. Shannon Graves Executive Director Out and About Our residents recently went on a retreat to IU and stayed the night. The staff and residents had a wonderful time! Taking a tour around the campus, followed by entertainment from some of the IU football players who came to visit with the residents. Lots of fun and laughter throughout the night. Our residents also went on a hay ride out at Pride's Creek which invite the residents every year, one of the things the residents looked forward to. t Hay ride at Pride’s Creek Residents and staff at the IU retreat in Bloomington Indiana Residents and staff have fun on the annual hay ride at Pride’s Creek Our Smile of the Month “The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance; the wise grows it under his feet.” – James Openheim t Alta A. and her beautiful smile 801 East Illinois Street Petersburg, IN 47567 Phone: 812.354.3001 Fax: 812.354.3008 www.ambermanorhc.com A Trilogy Health Services Community A monthly newsletter serving the residents of Amber Manor Care Center Shannon Graves Executive Director Kori Pinkstaff Director of Health Services Amy Carlisle Asst.
