F o r e s t G l e n Gazette Happy Veterans Day! “How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!” – Maya Angelou Whether you are a veteran or the spouse of a veteran, you have, in one way or another, sacrificed for the safety this nation. As you age, perhaps you have considered how you will finance long-term nursing care and/or assisted living, should you require these services. There are certain benefits of which you may be unaware, that can assist with paying for such care. After all, you deserve to be taken care of as President Lincoln envisioned when he said “to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow....” 2150 Montego Drive Springfield, OH 45503 Phone: 937.390.9913 Fax: 937.390.9915 www.forestglenhc.com November 2014 Aid and Attendance Pension If you a wartime veteran, or the surviving spouse of a wartime veteran, with a medical condition that requires the assistance of another person, or you need to receive this care from a home health care agency or in an assisted or independent living community, a nursing home, or even from a family member, you may be eligible to receive an increased monthly pension from the Veterans Administration called Aid and Attendance (A&A). To qualify for A&A, the veteran needs to have served at least 90 days of active duty in the military, where at least one day of this service occurred during a wartime period, regardless of whether or not the veteran was engaged in combat. It also needs to be established by your physician that you require daily assistance by others to perform activities of daily living (bathing, feeding, dressing, toileting, adjusting prosthetic devices, or protecting yourself from the hazards of your daily environment). A Veteran may be eligible for up to $1,732 per month, while a surviving spouse may be eligible for up to $1,113 per month. A Veteran and spouse together may be eligible for up to $2,054 per month, and a Veteran with an ill spouse may be eligible for up to $1,360 per month. Life Settlement Another little-known benefit that may assist in paying for long-term care is the Life Settlement benefit (available to all senior citizens with a life insurance policy), which is the sale of one’s life insurance policy for an agreed-upon sum of money, often for an amount much greater than the cash surrender value. It is not a loan, and has no restrictions or requirements to be paid back. There are also no interest fees, upfront fees, or liens associated with a Life Settlement. We encourage you to take a closer look at all the programs and benefits available to assist with financing your long-term care/ assisted living needs, including the information above. The Life Settlement Fund Group is also an excellent resource and can be visited at www.lifecarefunding.com. The Holidays and the family traditions that surround the Holidays are as many and varied as are the families that celebrate them. Our Thanksgiving tradition here at Forest Glen Health Campus has been to host a Traditional Thanksgiving Dinner in each of our dining rooms for each of our residents and their four guests. The meal is complimentary! The date of the meal is Sunday November 16th. We ask that the families of each of our residents RSVP by calling the Campus and asking for Jamie Craig, Samantha Downs or Terri Bowermaster. For the Legacy, please RSVP by calling Mary Swank. Please RSVP by Friday November 7th, 2014. We will have Dinner Seating at 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday November 16th. We want to accommodate each resident and family, but will have limited seating so please RSVP early. This is an undertaking we really love. As Thanksgiving approaches and we reflect on that which we are thankful for, we are grateful for the opportunity to serve those who have chosen Forest Glen Health Campus as their home or rehabilitation setting. Never hesitate to let us know how we can serve more fully or completely. We are committed to never taking for granted the trust you have placed in us. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! Sincerely, Mike Lacey Executive Director Living Arts For a Nature Art themed project the class created monograms, using different seeds and beans. All turned out quite beautiful and rich with texture, each one individual to the artist. Red lentils, navy beans, rice, black beans and sunflower seeds made up the medium used for these works. We feasted on Coconut Shrimp, Glazed Salmon, and Seasoned Pulled Pork.
