The Dedication of The Lateran Basilica November 9, 2014 From the Pastor’s REGULAR Desk SCHEDULE of MASSES on Sunday “ Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.” 8am, 10am and 12pm While today’s liturgical celebration is in honor of the Basilica of St. John in the Lateran, so named because it was built on land donated by Constantine which had formerly belonged to the Laterani Family, it is the notion of Christ as the “temple” which is proclaimed in the scripture. Saturday, November 8 5pm The Beloved Departed Enrolled in this Novena of Masses Sunday, November 9 8am The Lateran Basilica is the proper church of the Bishop of Rome. From the “cathedra” (bishop’s throne) of the church he rules as bishop of Rome. It is the mother church of all Catholic churches in the city of Rome and of the world. It is formally dedicated to the Savior and to St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist as co-patrons. From the seat of the Vatican, the Bishop of Rome serves as the head of the Catholic Church. Pablo Berdote req. The Carlson Family 10am Maria Berceno req. The Kasilag Family 12pm Victoria Flapia req.
