November Announcements
You’ll be thankful for this important information!
Spring Registration
If you have not seen your advisor yet
for consultation and enabling, you
should do this right away. Below are
some important dates to keep in mind:
November 3
Change of Majors Due
October 21-November 21
Advising Period
During the advising period,
Registrar will accept prerequisite
(green form) and major/minor/
concentration/class restriction permit
(pink form) forms. Registrar will not
accept overrides (yellow forms) until
registration begins.
November 12
90+ earned credit hours
November 14
60-89 earned credit hours
November 19
30-59 earned credit hours
November 21
0-29 earned credit hours
November 24-25
Make-Up Days
The registration system is first-come,
first-serve. The dates listed above
will be the only time you can register
online. If by November 25th, you have
not registered, you may risk losing
housing, financial aid and full time
student status. It is not wise to wait
until the first week of the semester to
register.
Winter Registration
Winter 2015 online registration begins
on November 12th at 10:30 a.m. Winter
registration will be open every day
from 10:30 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. and
will end at 5 p.m. on December 5th.
Registration for winter is NOT based
on earned hours, so all students may
begin registering as early as November
12th at 10:30 a.m. Students must pay
a $100 deposit prior to registering for
a winter course. Winter registration
is not recommended for first-time
freshmen.
Double Majors
For those of you who have double
majors, it is imperative for you to meet
with both of your advisors prior to
finalizing your spring 2015 schedule.
Only one advisor has to enable you.
Override/Permit Card Policy &
Forms (yellow)
To override into a course that is closed
to registration, you will need to get the
signatures from the faculty member
of the class you wish to gain access
to and the Dean/Chair of the department of the course. You must bring
the form to the School office for a
School stamp. School offices have the
ability to put an expiration date on the
Override Form. You then must bring
the form to the Registrar’s Office.
If you do not submit it to the Registrar’s Office by the expiration date,
the form will not be honored. The
Registrar’s Office will check to make
sure they have all the information they

need and then will process the change.
You need to make sure you have room
in your schedule for the change and
that you do not exceed 16 credits,
if you were not intending on taking
more.
Prerequisite Permit Form (green)
You will need to get the signatures

you wish to waive the prerequisite
for and the Dean/Chair of the department of the course. You must bring
the form to the School office for a
School stamp. School offices have the
ability to put an expiration date on the
Prerequisite Permit Form. You then
must bring the form to the Registrar’s
Office.
If you do not submit it to the Registrar’s Office by the expiration date,
the form will not be honored. The
Registrar’s Office will check to make
sure they have all the information they
need and then will grant the waiver.
You will be asked to immediately
use a nearby computer to register for
the course, once the Registrar’s staff
has cleared the permission for you. It
remains your responsibility to register
for the class.
Full-Time Tuition
Full-time tuition pays for 12-16
credits. If you are planning on taking
five 3-credit courses, you may want to
consider adding an additional onecredit course. You can find one-credit
courses under Career Development,
Music, and Physical Education. Please
make sure to check the online catalog
for descriptions and prerequisites.
Class meeting times and withdrawal
deadlines may vary for those 1-credit
courses.

will tell you what the requirements are
to enroll in a course.
Error Message Note
Read Your DegreeWorks Audit!
When registering, if you get the
message “Mutual Exclusion,” this
means that you have already taken
this course, which may have been
renumbered since your participation.
Honors Program Spring Courses
The Honors Program has their Spring
2015 courses viewable on their
webpage. Please follow this link for

Look Up Classes
Please note that the section number
of the classes that you are registering
for signify where the class will be
held. Undergraduate day courses in
Poughkeepsie are section numbers
111-149, and undergraduate evening
courses held in Poughkeepsie are 200230. Other section numbers are held
on other campuses, and only students
enrolled in those programs can take
those courses.
Please be cautious if the course days
and times are TBA as that signifies
that it’s an online course (section
numbers 720 and 740). Online courses
should only be taken when you are
academically ready to do so. The 740
series of online classes are reserved
for adult students only.
Did you know you can find out if
a course has any prerequisites by
clicking on the course title (blue) once
The academic degree audit, called
DegreeWorks, is a wonderful planning
tool to keep you on track for graduation. Please make sure that the courses
you are registered for are courses that
you need to complete for graduation.
If you are in a class that is an elective,
you should make sure that you still
need elective credits to graduate. Make
sure you are not repeating courses you
already took at another institution or
from AP or college credits from high
school. Ultimately, you are responsible for knowing and meeting your
program requirements. If something
does not look right on the audit, email
[email protected].
Withdrawing From Classes
November 3rd by 5:00 p.m. is the last
day to withdraw from a class (in the
15 week format) with a grade of “W.”
After November 3rd, if you wish to
withdraw from a class, the grade will
be “WF” which will calculate as an
“F.” Classes meeting different formats
have their own withdraw dates; please
check with the Registrar’s Office for
these dates. To withdraw from a class,
download the form from the Current
Students page on the Marist website
under Academics > Registrar section
and get your advisor’s signature. Be
sure to check if withdrawing will
affect your Federal and/or New York
State financial aid!

Modified Schedule on
Nov. 25th
Remember that on November 25th,
the College has instituted a modified class schedule.
No evening classes will be held.
All Tuesday DAY classes meet
during their normal times except:
• Tuesday 11:00 a.m. classes do
NOT meet
• Tuesday 3:30 p.m. classes do
NOT meet
• The following Wednesday
classes WILL meet on Tuesday,
November 25:
• Slot 5, Wednesday 8:00 a.m.
classes meet at 11:00 a.m.
• Slot 12, Wednesday 2:00 p.m.
classes meet at 3:30 p.m.
Please review the Slot Grid for information about which slots your
classes are in.
WHAT IS THE CENTER FOR
ADVISING & ACADEMIC
SERVICES (CAAS)?
You can come to our office for
the following reasons:
To change your academic advisor.
(You can do this online through our
Current Students page)

To report a prolonged absence

To request a leave of absence or
withdrawal from Marist

To comply with probation
requirements and discuss other issues
regarding academic standing

To request a credit overload for
*19+ in the fall or spring
*4+ in the winter
*10+ in the summer

Dean’s List

To receive clarification of academic
policies or advice on handling
academic-related issues

When there is a LEGITIMATE,
VERIFIABLE situation requiring
the waiver of a published academic

Announcing My.Marist Advising Tab!
Beginning this month when you log on to my.marist you will now have access to an Advising portal as a
drop down from the Student tab. In this portal you will have access to many advising resources, including our Twitter feed, your advisor information and various important documents,
including the Academic Advising Planner.
We encourage you to peruse the page. Should you think of anything else that would be useful to add,
please do not hesitate to contact us!
Not Returning for Spring 2015?
All undergraduate students (except
graduating students) who plan on
not returning to Marist for the spring
semester need to contact the CAAS
office before leaving for the semester.
In addition, you should consult the
Student Guide to Withdrawal and
Leave of Absence which is available
online at http://www.marist.edu/
academics/advise/pdfs/wlofa.pdf and
at Current Students tab of the Marist
website.
Review the Final Exam Schedule
Review the Fall 2014 final exam
schedule now. You can access the
schedule at http://www.marist.edu/
registrar/finals.html.
Be on the lookout for
MOCK
INTERVIEW
DAY
On Wednesday, November 12, you can hone your interviewing
skills without having that perfect job hanging in the balance.
Employer representatives will be on campus to give you a practice
interview and then give you tips and pointers to improve your performance.
Details will appear on FoxQuest as the week approaches.
