THE WORSHIP HAS ENDED…LET OUR SERVICE BEGIN!
All those who are baptized are welcome to celebrate Holy
Communion. We believe that in the sacrament, we receive
assurance that our sins are forgiven, that we are spiritually
strengthened, and through our participation, we join with all
Christians in an expression of faith that Jesus Christ is Lord.
The center circles of the communion trays have white grape
juice. Completed communion cards can be given to an usher
when you come forward. Members and visitors, please make
sure your name and today's date appear on the card.
Please remember that the time before service in the
sanctuary is for many a time for meditation and prayer.
Please conduct your conversations prior to the service in
the narthex. Also, please leave all refreshments outside the
sanctuary.
BAPTISM OF BENJAMIN GARRETT VOORHEES
PRESENTATION
P
God, who is rich in mercy and love, gives us a new birth
into a living hope through the sacrament of baptism. By
water and the Word God delivers us from sin and death
and raises us to new life in Jesus Christ. We are united
with all the baptized in the one body of Christ, anointed
with the gift of the Holy Spirit, and joined in God's mission
for the life of the world.
Sponsors: We present Benjamin Garrett Voorhees for Baptism.
P
Altar Flowers are given by Doug & Rita Julius in memory of
family.
This month's Sanctuary Candles are given by the Eliason
Family, and The Julius Family in memory of Family.
Parents, do you promise to nurture your children in the
Christian faith as you are empowered by God's Spirit, and
to help them live in the covenant of baptism and in
communion with the church?
Parents: We do.
P
th
People of God, do you promise to support Benjamin

God?
I renounce them.
P
C
Do you believe in God the Father?
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of
heaven and earth.
P
C
Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God?
I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
P
C
Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
† THANKSGIVING AT THE FONT
P
The Lord be with you.
C
And also with you.
P
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
C
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
P
Blessed are you, holy God. You are the creator of the
waters of the earth. You are the fire of rebirth. You poured
out your Spirit on your people Israel. You breathe life into
our dry bones. Your Son Jesus promised to send the Spirit
to us that the world may know your peace and truth.
Pour out your Holy Spirit, and breathe new life into those
who are here baptized. By your Spirit adopt us all as your
children, through our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and
reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and
forever. C
Amen.
BAPTISM
P
Benjamin Garrett Voorhees, I baptize you in the name
of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
C
Amen.
P
Blessed be God, the source of all life, the word of
salvation, the spirit of mercy. You belong to Christ, in
whom you have been baptized. Alleluia.
P
Let us pray. We give you thanks, O God, that through
water and the Holy Spirit you give your daughters and
sons new birth, cleanse them from sin, and raise them to
eternal life. Amen.
P
Sustain Benjamin with the gift of your Holy Spirit: the spirit
of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and
might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord, the
spirit of joy in your presence, both now and forever.
Amen.
C
P
C
Benjamin, child of God, you have been sealed by the
Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of Christ forever.
Amen.
WELCOME
A lighted candle is given to the newly baptized as a representative of
the congregation says:
R
Let your light so shine before others that they may see
your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
The representative leads the assembly in the welcome.
R
C
Let us welcome the newly baptized.
We welcome you into the body of Christ and into the
mission we share: join us in giving thanks and praise
to God and bearing God's creative and redeeming
word to all the world.
THE FIRST READING: Proverbs 22:1-9
A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches,
and favor is better than silver or gold.
2
The rich and the poor have this in common:
the LORD is the maker of them all.
3
The clever see danger and hide;
but the simple go on, and suffer for it.
4
The reward for humility and fear of the LORD
is riches and honor and life.
5
Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse;
the cautious will keep far from them.
6
Train children in the right way,
and when old, they will not stray.
7
The rich rule over the poor,
and the borrower is the slave of the lender.
8
Whoever sows injustice will reap calamity,
and the rod of anger will fail.
9
Those who are generous are blessed,
for they share their bread with the poor.
THE SECOND READING: I Timothy 6: 6-10
There is great gain in godliness combined with contentment; 7 for
we brought nothing into the world, so that we can take nothing
out of it; 8 but if we have food and clothing, we will be content with
these. 9 But those who want to be rich fall into temptation and are
trapped by many senseless and harmful desires that plunge
people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root
of all kinds of evil, and in their eagerness to be rich some have
wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many
pains.
