Te Kura Tuarua O Mawhera
Greymouth High School
This is a time of high pressure in any high school: the end of
the school year is rapidly approaching and, while that may
sound exciting in some ways, it also means we all have goals
we need to achieve and some of us are working hard to catch
up to where we should be.
This is a time when we need to look out for each other more
than ever, to keep each other’s expectations high. We also
need to do the basics well – recently I’ve spoken with several
senior students who were out of uniform, and also we had to
have a special rubbish clean-up as this has been getting
worse. Doing the basics well is a game-winning strategy that
works in all ways (caring for yourself, studying, assessment
performance etc), so please repeat this message with your
child.
The 2015 Student Leadership team for 2015 has been selected
and will be announced next week.
No Whanau Hui on Saturday 1 November. This
will be scheduled at a later date. Please keep an eye out in the
newsletter for a new date.

Sporting News
West Coast Secondary Schools’ Junior Volleyball
On Thursday 23rd October the Greymouth High School Junior
Boys’ Volleyball team competed in the West Coast Secondary
Schools’ Junior Volleyball Champs held at the Civic Centre in
Greymouth. Tyla Foster, Matt Gardner, Josh Morgan, Bailey
Nicoll, George Rubbo, Angus Watson and Josh Wilkins played
in the team. The boys unfortunately did not win any of their
games but they all improved as the day went on and it was a
great day watching them progress as a team and have fun.
In their final game against Westland High School they had
an unlucky loss by one point with the final point being played
out just as the full time whistle blew. Thank you to the team
for an enjoyable day out, they were a great team to coach.
Thank you also to Ms Reij, Calib Gurden and Braedon Gurden
who came along to referee and assist with coaching the
team.
