Fall Newsletter
The temperature has dropped, a sure sign that fall is
here, which leads us to one of our busiest seasons of
the year.
November 2014
Star Spangled Honors Band
In the past month, the Beginning Band attended a
performance of the Orlando Philharmonic at the annual
Young Person’s Concert. Our 8th Grade students joined
Lake Minneola High School for a musical spirit night and
performed with the high school band.
In the weeks ahead, you can expect to receive emails or
calls from our Band Boosters asking for your support to
contribute time, energy or supplies to our various
seasonal events. It takes a community to move the
band in any direction. I am thankful that you are a part
of that community!
Be sure to glance at the needed supplies listed on the
back side of the newsletter. Thanks in advance.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Band Parent Meeting
A general Band Parent meeting is scheduled for
Thursday, November 13 from 6:30 to 7:30 PM in the
Band Room. Please park in the rear of the school
behind the band room and come in through our back
entrance. We will discuss the next fundraiser starting
on 11/17, and the parade and concert information for
the month of December and early January. Our Blue
Ribbon Farms fundraiser merchandise will arrive on this
date, so please plan to pick up any items sold while you
are on campus. If you prefer, you can pick your child up
after school on Thursday and get your items earlier.
Find us on Facebook and LIKE and FOLLOW.
Fourteen Symphonic and Concert Band students were
selected to participate in the Star Spangled Honors
Band on November 1. Students combined with other
middle school musicians from Lake, Marion and Sumter
counties and opened the FBA-19 High School Marching
MPA by performing the National Anthem in the
Leesburg Football Stadium. Pictured from left to right are
Colton Lipham, Natasia Campbell, Madison Mathis, Kiana
Maldonado, Alexa Stasko, Alanis Gonzalez, Alizabeth

Band Portrait Day
Supplies Needed for the Holiday Season:
Michelle Brown photography will be with us all day on
Thursday, November 6 to take portraits of each band
student in uniform with their instrument. Our group
yearbook photos will also be taken on this date. A photo
order form will be sent home in advance. The form, with
payment, is due on photo day. Ms. Brown’s photography
is top quality, and she offers a lot of unique gift items that
utilize your student’s photo. Picture day is a full uniform
day. Black pants and dress shoes required. (no denim,
active wear, or athletic shoes). Those out of dress code
will not be photographed.
Cases of bottled water; BJ’s large packages of individual
variety chips; Cans of soda; Large candy bars for
concessions; tiny candy singles to toss during parades.
Car Wash Fundraiser #2
OUTBACK steakhouse is
partnering again with ERMS for a
car wash on Saturday morning,
November 15, 2014 from 9:30 AM
until 2 PM. In addition to
providing the hose and water,
Outback will also give us a free
appetizer coupon to give to each car wash customer.
Cars will be washed for donation. Last month’s October
car wash was a lot of fun and was a smashing (or should
I say soaking) success! Shifts for parents and students
are available on Sign-Up Genius and are first-come,
first-served. Car washes can be very common on
Saturday across Clermont, so recruiting customers in
advance is essential for success. Let your neighbors and
Facebook friends know where to head! Like before,
we’ll have small coupons/flyers printed that can be
passed out as a reminder for our event. We are
exploring the possibility of pre-sales for the car wash.
update
Each student in all band periods
has received a code & download
instructions for Smart Music.
Most assignments will post on a Monday and are due two
weeks later. Late assignments will be dropped 10% per
day, losing a maximum of 50% once one week late. In
other words…assignments must be completed on time. An
unprepared & unpracticed student affects the entire band.
Enjoy the City Fundraiser
Our 2nd Grading Period fundraiser will begin on November
17 and run for several weeks until December 12. We will
be selling the popular Enjoy the City coupon books for
2015. Books sell for $20 and the purchaser immediately
gets the purchase price back with grocery store vouchers
good at Winn Dixie and Publix. This was our most effective
fundraiser last year, and we should be able to do well,
again. Students will receive a sample book, and will take
orders. Coupon books will arrive and be distributed prior
to the Holiday break, just in time to make a great gift.
Upcoming Events at a Glance
This is not a full list, and is not intended to provide times
or details. Not every date is for all band students. Check
the band website for full details. Remember, we are cocurricular and all performances are mandatory graded
events. Please schedule appropriately during this busy
season.
