FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH SHEPHERDSVILLE
2ND ANNUAL HEALTH FAIR
“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve,
and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45
By Shela Bolus
October 18th was a
great day here at First Baptist
Church. Our 2nd Annual Health
Fair was held for those less
fortunate in the Community.
Our church members prepared
and served lunch to an
estimated 170 individuals. The
clothes closet was open and
around 140 food boxes were
distributed. Children’s activities
in the gym provided a fun and
safe environment for the kids.
In the Fellowship Hall
there were 12 health related
displays including blood sugar
and blood pressure screen-
ings. Flu shots were provided
by Walgreens. Thanks to a
government grant, the vaccine
was available to those without
insurance or the ability to pay.
Dr. Barry Sosnin and his staff
from Bardstown provided general health information and
was a resource for health
questions, such as one participant who had a dangerously
high blood pressure. Reading
glasses were provided to 26
individuals with requests for
15 more glasses which will be
purchased
and
delivered.
Dental counseling and toothbrushes and toothpaste were
distributed, as were about 120
personal care bags. A very
popular event was the door
prize drawings which were
held every 30 minutes.
Insurance
counseling
was available. Several families,
some with young children,
1
who had no medical coverage
were identified. The insurance
counselor
expressed
how
appreciative she was for the
opportunity to assist these
families in getting much
needed coverage for medical
care. Brother Henry Powell
coordinated a “Wants and
Needs” effort. We have many
requests for such items as
blankets, sheets, beds and
many more. Some Sunday
School Classes donated money
for the purchase of many of
the items. On the back page
you will find a list of items we
are still looking for and how to
donate.
Members of Sunday
School Classes took 48 prayer
concern cards to pray and
send cards or give a phone call
to these individuals as a follow
up to their expressed prayer

A First Baptist Tradition
Thanksgiving is a special time to show how thankful we are for
the blessings God has given us.
One way we do this is by sharing our bounty with our community by preparing a
Thanksgiving meal that is available to anyone who cares to share it with us.
This includes those we help throughout the year through our food pantry and
Martie’s Kitchen, those who live alone, and those of us who wish to celebrate
Thanksgiving together.
While many of the meals we prepare will be taken home by families, all are invited
to join with us in Fellowship Hall for this meal.
Our 11th Annual FBC Thanksgiving Meal
Thursday, November 27th you are invited to...
Help us prepare the meal. * Provide cooked turkeys. * Donate to pay for the meal.
Join us on Thanksgiving Day for the meal.
Watch for details in the Sunday Bulletins during November.
48th Annual
Community Thanksgiving Service
Please join us at
First Baptist Church of Shepherdsville
Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 7:00 p.m.
To celebrate, worship, and give thanks together.
Sponsored by The Fellowship of Concern:
All offering taken up for this event will go to help struggling
families and individuals in our community.

honor family and friends by
placing poinsettias in their
name. We bring forward donations for the food pantry

bakers in the church enjoy
bringing a favorite recipe for
the fellowship reception after
the service.
The Advent season is a
time for reflection and preparation, but its mood is
joyful. It proclaims the
revelation of God's love
as expressed in Christ's
birth in a humble stable,
His sacrificial death on
the cross, and His victorious resurrection! It
points to the hope of Christ's
coming again as the King of
Kings and Lord of Lords. Advent makes innkeepers out of
all of us, asking each of us to
make room for the arrival of
Christ The King. Please plan to
join us on Sunday November

prepare Him room in our
hearts, our lives, and our
homes!

requests. These prayer concerns included such needs as
grave illnesses and grieving for
loss of family members. One
of our members called a lady
with stage 4 cancer and talked
with her for over an hour and
provided her with emotional
and spiritual support. What a
wonderful way to put love into
action!
Thanks to each and
every one who volunteered
time, money and prayers. We
are grateful for this awesome
opportunity to reach out to our
community and provide a
beacon of light and Christian
love.
At the Health Fair on Saturday, October 18th, we had 41 “Wants
and Needs” requests made. Below you will find a list of the items
we are still looking for. If you can donate any of the small items,
you can drop them off in the church office or leave them on the
table in the Education Building Hallway. If you have larger items to
donate, please call the church office so we can arrange for the
items to be picked up and delivered to the appropriate family.
