The Service Enterprise Europe Network is your local gateway to doing business abroad, accessing European funding, driving innovation and increasing your competitiveness in new markets. Some Key figures • • • The Network has helped around 7 000 companies sign technology and business partnership agreements. The Network has helped 2 400 SMEs to apply for funding under the FP7 programme. The Network includes 17 groups that specialise in different industry sectors, from intelligent energy to nanotechnology. These experts team up to provide companies with customised support and sectorspecific events. EEN and the SME Instrument • • • EEN supports applicants of the SME Instrument. EEN offers Key Account Management (KAM) services to SME Instrument beneficiaries. EEN arranges coaches for SME Instrument beneficiaries. EENs role in Horizon 2020 and SME Instrument SME Instrument – more than money • • • • Business innovation coaching increases the impact of the SME grant. Beneficiaries of the SME Instrument Phase I can receive 7 days of KAM service plus 3 days of dedicated coaching. Beneficiaries of the SME Instrument Phase II can receive 7 days of KAM service plus 12 days of dedicated coaching. KAM service and coaching are included in the SME benefits. Coaches and KAMs are payed by H2020. Three types of coaching • • • Business development: focused on the identification and evaluation of business opportunities, defining business segments and developing an effective market mix. Organization: aimed at mobilizing the resources of the SME to ensure efficiency and performance of the SME's organization. Cooperation: supporting SMEs in planning and implementing innovation partnerships and project consortia. Why is this included in SME Instrument? “A coaching and mentoring service aiming at enhancing the innovation management capacity of participants is offered to all SMEs benefiting from phase 1 and phase 2 support under the SME instrument. It is expected to increase the return on investment in innovation activities. The coaching service will be delivered in cooperation with the Enterprise Europe Network, which will act as a broker between SME participants and coaches selected from a Europe-wide coaching pool.” How it's done in practice • • • First company meeting After notification, the KAM will contact the SME for an introductory meeting, subsequent assessment of coaching needs and development of an action plan. Finding a coach The KAM at EEN matches the needs of the SME with a database of coaches, and suggests suitable coaches to the SME. Final assessment The KAM will follow and support the coaching process. After the project, a final assessment will be made of the coaches' impact. The KAM will assist in planning the next step for the SME. FAQ • • • Is coaching compulsory? No. It's an additional service offered by the EU to beneficiaries of the SME Instrument. Who chooses the coach? The KAM at EEN matches the needs of the SME with a database of coaches. The SME always has the final word in choosing the coach. Can we use our own consultants? The database of coaches is currently underpopulated. EEN will gratefully consider suggestions of new coaches.
