NEWS FROM THE PRINCIPAL
The Year 6 and 7 students attended camp in Week 2. The camp was a great
success with many weary bodies returning Friday afternoon, especially Ms
Pynes and Miss Macaskill! The camp’s focus was on team and resilience
building where the students participated in many activities like climbing,
archery and water survival. The highlights? Ms Pynes and her fabulous feat
of ‘rock’ climbing and dangling from a great height, the disco and yummy food!
I enjoyed a day with the kids as they explored many of the great activities
presented.
Enormous thanks need to go to Ms Pynes, Mrs Manning and Miss Macaskill
for all the organising and a very generous thanks to Mr Cockroft for being the
male chaperon.
Congratulations to the Mount Lawley SHS GAT/SVAPA scholarship
recipients for 2015. An awesome effort!

National School Survey
As part of a mandatory national initiative all government schools in WA have
opened a survey to provide the opportunity for parents and staff to contribute
opinions of their school. I encourage all parents to participate in this short
survey as we value greatly your views. Information gained provides us with
important information to ensure the positive future growth of our school.
All survey results will be made available to the whole school community at the
conclusion of the survey. The survey closes on 4th December 2014.
Please click on this link to access the survey http://www.schoolsurvey.edu.au/

Please do not hesitate to see me if you require further information.
Parent Contributions.
We endeavour to ensure our parents have the opportunity to participate in
school discussions and encourage all parents to come along to the P & C
meetings to be able to actively engage in school happenings. We have an
active School Board which is the voice for our parent community. We have a
positive working relationship as we work towards common goals for our
students and school as a whole. It is also important that parents are able to communicate issues or concerns and I
encourage you to discuss these with me so that we are able to support a positive outcome.
Community Celebration
We will once again celebrate our wonderful community on Thursday 18th December. We will begin with a whole school
concert before lunch, parents and family members are then invited to come along and have a picnic lunch with their
children. After lunch we have organised the Mucky Duck Bush Band for some music and dance. We hope you will place
this in your diaries and come along and enjoy the events planned.

PARENT WORKSHOP
We will once again run a parent workshop on Tuesday 11th
November 9:00 a.m. in Room 8.
This is a hands on workshop where parents will experience
being a student in today’s classroom. They will engage in
cooperative learning work with open ended tasks and
develop a sense of what current evidence based curriculum
and delivery looks like for their children at Yokine Primary.
Please let the front office now if you wish to attend.
SCHOOL BOARD OPEN MEETING
As part of our Terms of Reference one ‘Annual public
meeting’ is to be held. All parents and community members
are invited to attend as observers. An Agenda will be posted
on our webpage next week. The meeting will be on
Thursday 27th November at 6pm in Room 8.
SUN SUMMIT
The Year 6&7 students, again participated in the Sun
Summit held at Carmel School yesterday. This is a joint
venture with a number of local religious and non-religious
schools. It is a day where all the students get together to
share the day gaining important knowledge and
understanding of cultural diversity; and that even though we
are all different, in many ways we are similar.
YEAR 6&7 CAMP
Well, I survived camp! We had a delightful time with a great
group of students of whom we should all be very proud.
It takes a team and many months of work to organise a
camp; my sincere gratitude to the following:
Mrs Fraser – In addition to providing administrative support,
she liked it so much that she returned in the evening with Mr
Fraser. We were hoping to catch her moves on the dance
floor but she had a very good excuse for not staying –
another little granddaughter arrived safely on Thursday
evening.
Miss Macaskill – it’s easier to list what Miss Macaskill
didn’t do before camp and on camp. She was Wonder
Woman with very and interesting entertaining disco moves.
However, her quiz night questions were definitely different
e.g. What is my favourite number? What are my favourite
colours?
Mr Cockroft – our token male chaperon who did not sleep
at all. Possibly the disco music rendered him shocked; or
maybe not being able to answer some of the quiz night
questions worried him e.g. Who are the members of One
Direction?
Ms Tatam – was kept very busy being a supervisor, nurse,
photographer, archer etc.; and helping the Old Fogeys team
maintain its dignity during the Quiz Night. She earned her
Pyjama Day.
Mrs Cockroft – braved the afternoon traffic to respond to
our IT emergency call and displayed a disturbing knowledge
of the current teeny bopper music trends during the Quiz
Night.
Olivia Cockroft – compiled the soundtrack for the disco
from all the tracks requested by the students.
She
managed my concerns regarding appropriate songs and
language content with great diplomacy and not even one
eye roll.
Mrs Manning – before taking Long Service Leave Mrs
Manning attended to camp administrative matters such as
bookings, catering, financials, legal documentation, camp
program...
Mrs Stenhouse – provided admin support and was my
sounding (sobbing) board.
Ms Stott – collated all the legal documentation, the
Excursion file and medications bag.
Mrs Goodwin – provided admin support and picked up all
the balls I dropped.
A special thank you to Mr Kevin Fraser for the
technological support he provided on Thursday night; a
disaster was averted and we had sound for the disco.
I sincerely hope I have not forgotten anyone; any lapse in
memory is definitely camp related.

My vision is to grow the centre to capacity of 39 children for
each session i.e. Before School, After School and Vacation
Care. I see Kosy Kids not only as a business that needs to
be sustainable but equally a resource and support to the
families of Yokine Primary School and then the surrounding
community.
In order to achieve my vision I need to include the vision of
our families and school and ensure that the team that cares
for your children are of the calibre required to grow and
support our community.
I am available on 0410 317 811 for anyone wishing to set
up a time to meet to discuss your needs.
KOSY KIDS
What a roller coaster ride the last fortnight has been! By the Kindest regards,
end of next fortnight I should be on top of everything. Jeanne Hannivig-Jones
Meeting old friends, getting to know our current families and
remembering how much I love being with the children.
I just wanted to update everyone on staffing at the centre.
Me! Jeanne Hannivig-Jones – Ngala trained Mothercraft
nurse with a background in working with families with sleep,
feeding and behaviour issues. I am the licensee and now
operator of Kosy Kids. I have owned the centre from 2000.
Tanya Williams – at this stage it is uncertain if Tanya will
return. It is my wish that she does so, once she is ready.
Brodie (Dee) McCutcheon – Brodie has a Certificate III in
Disability as well as experience working with children at risk
through DCP. Brodie will be commencing a traineeship with
Kosy Kids in November for her Diploma in Children’s
Services.
Taylah Scala – Taylah holds a Certificate III in Disability and
Educational Support however even more exciting is that she
teaches dance! From November Taylah will be at the centre
from 7am to 9am, and running dance class from 7.30 to
8.30 am. These classes are included in our fees.
Speaking of fees!
I have reviewed these and our before school and after
school fees are on par with the community centres, at $25
and $28 respectively. However, there is great discrepancy
in PFD and vacation care fees. We have been $55 for as
long as I can remember and our competition is all around
