FATHER CHARLES SPELLMAN COUNCIL #6125

The Grand Knights Message
Brother Knights, Ladies, and friends:
October was another busy month with the Rosary on the Town Square on Merritt Island
on the 11th, and Amberbockfest on the 25th, in addition to our regular meetings and Bingo
sessions. Speaking of Bingo, our Bingo attendance has been a little flat this fall while we
wait for the return of our snowbird neighbors. Thanks to the Bingo team’s support and the
consistent patronage from our core cadre of players and sponsors, and please bring some
friends so that we can maintain our strong contribution history for our select charities.
If you haven’t already early voted for his week’s elections, please participate in these
important elections as part of your civic responsibilities.
Upcoming in November is the Mass of the Roses in honor of our departed brothers
over the past year; please come out and support John Prokopowicz as program chair and
the rest of your brother Knights and Ladies at St. John’s Mass on the Sunday before
Thanksgiving.
Looking ahead to December our Council Christmas party is scheduled for December
13 so mark that on your calendar.
I appreciate all of our Knights family members’ continued loyalty and support to our
council and our order. With our busy council/assembly plans for this year, I appreciate those
of you who have assumed committee leadership roles; I hope your participation in our council can help make your Knights membership even more fulfilling.
In Charity for our community and parishes, and in Unity across our enterprise, we are
In Service to God, In Service to All!
Vivat Jesus!

SING A LITTLE LOUDER
2015 LAPS FOR LIFE
The year was 1944. The cattle train slowly rolled
through the German countryside. Its 8 cattle
cars carried no cattle. Instead they held 947
Jewish or Catholic human beings: men, women
and children. These people were so jammed into the train cars they could barely breathe. The
train’s destination was the Auschwitz death camp
in Poland. The train entered a German village.
As it passed thru the town it came near a church
holding Sunday worship services. The people in
the cattle cars called loudly for help as they
neared the church filled with worshipers. The
people in the church heard the wailing and weeping, the desperate pleas of the condemned. Their
response was to sing their hymn a little louder so
as not to hear the anguished cries of those going
to their deaths.
Too many in our land sing their hymns a little
louder so as not to hear the anguished cries of the
child in the womb being dismembered by the forceps. If we choose to ignore this present day holocaust, then we are no different than the German
worshipers. Nothing ensures the victory of evil
more than when good people do nothing!
Knights of Columbus Councils in the Diocese
of Orlando and our Council are hosting the
Second Annual Laps 4 Life fundraiser
at Bishop Moore High School on Saturday
March 7, 2015. Last year, 15 Councils combined their time, talent and treasure and
raised funds (Over $34,000 plus matching
funds from Supreme) to buy ultrasound machines for pregnancy centers within the Diocese of Orlando. All was accomplished with
only three months’ lead time. This year we
hope to do even better.
God Bless the USA
Deacon Mike
Please see flyer on page 5 and offer your assistance in one or more of the following
ways: (a) Volunteer to help Gil Jasso solicit
donations. (b.) Volunteer to form or join a
team to walk/run in Laps for Life. (c.) Pray for
the success of this very noble effort. Last
year our Council brothers and sisters and
others in our community were very generous. Let’s do it again. Don’t hesitate—call
321 433-9965; email [email protected].
Thank you.

Brothers and Sisters,
The month of October had its ups and downs. The ups are:
1. The look of the bar has been improved by the addition of new bar stools purchased by the bar operators, brothers Steve O’Conor and Brian Wilson; thank you both for the much needed improvement.
2. As you know we are committed to improving the look of the hall and brother Jim Wald is currently
working on a 3 dimensional drawing which will show the proposed new look; we thank him for his
efforts and look forward to seeing the results of his efforts.
3. This month two hundred plus guests enjoyed the annual Amberbock festival and dinner organized
by brothers Steve O’Conor and Brian Wilson, the kitchen staff of brothers Steve Lowry, John Schantzen
and sister Beth Lowry prepared and served a wonderful German dinner. Our thanks go out to you and
all of the other brothers and sisters that helped in making a very successful and enjoyable evening.
4. Our web page continues to attract interest and hall rentals are increasing as a result.
5. The parking bumpers have been painted and thanks go out to brothers Bill Masterson, Tom Kelly
and Bill Bruty.
It is with great pleasure I inform you that brother Bill Masterson has been elected to the Board and
appointed Vice President to fill the term of brother Ed Winslow, who is now our insurance representative; congratulations to both.
Our underground electric feeding the pole lights on the south side and the sign developed shorts and
needed to be replaced in accordance with code requirements. As a permit was required for the work,
it was necessary to hire an electrical contractor to secure the permit and oversee the work. The majority of the work was done in house which saved us some money and our thanks go out to brothers
Dan Barnett, Steve Lowry, and John Schantzen for their efforts in very uncomfortable conditions and
congratulate them on a job well done. It was my pleasure working with each of you.
I regret to report that we have lost our largest renter the BAPS, as they have purchased their own temple. The saying that “one door closes and another opens” gives me faith that our rentals for Sundays
will increase as the hall is now available to a wider spectrum of renters.
In closing I regret to report that crab cake sales have slowed down and I urge everyone to step up, instead of relying on others, to help us by ordering them from me at 321-338-2898 or 609-741-0671.
Thanking you in advance.
