Acts 9:1-9
Now Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the
disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest, 2 and asked
for letters from him to the synagogues at Damascus, so that
if he found any belonging to the Way, both men and
women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. 3 As he
was traveling, it happened that he was approaching
Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven flashed
around him; 4 and he fell to the ground and heard a voice
saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?”
5
And he said, “Who are You, Lord?” And He said, “I am
Jesus whom you are persecuting, 6 but get up and enter the
city, and it will be told you what you must do.” 7 The men
who traveled with him stood speechless, hearing the voice
but seeing no one. 8 Saul got up from the ground, and
though his eyes were open, he could see nothing; and
leading him by the hand, they brought him into Damascus.
9
And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor
drank.

On November 19th Pastor Kirk will facilitate a video series from Ray Vander Laan. He will
lead us on a journey through Galilee and to Asia Minor, a region where the rabbinic practice of
selecting disciples (talmidim) was well-known, and where disciples walked the walk Rabbi Jesus
taught them. We will explore what it means to be a follower of Jesus, not only in the first
century, but now in the twenty-first century.
The class will meet in Sanctuary at 6:00 pm.

Every Wednesday night join us for fully inclusive offerings for students ages

The Gospel of Luke
A Dramatic Presentation of the NIV Text at Mountain View Presbyterian Church
th
On February 8 2015, in all three Sanctuary services, we will be presenting the Gospel of Luke in
dramatic format. It will be similar to the February 2014 presentation of Mark, and the 2013
presentation of John, in that we will present the NIV text in order, word for word. Except that Luke is
much longer than Mark so, in February, the drama will focus on the ministry of Jesus prior to Holy
Week, and the Holy Week drama will be presented at a later time. Also, Luke has many favorite, but
long, teachings of Jesus, such as The Good Samaritan and The Prodigal Son. So for the Luke
presentation it will be a combination of fully memorized drama plus readings of certain sections.
Kay Randolph and Peter Flynn are again jointly directing this presentation, and are seeking to
assemble a group of Mountain View worshippers to join them to prepare and present the drama. If
you are someone with dramatic experience who is willing to commit to regular rehearsals starting in
January, and is able to either memorize scripture or read text in dramatic form, then Kay and Peter
would love to hear from you. The team will be finalized during Thanksgiving week, so please contact
Kay or Peter no later than November 24th if you are interested in participating.
Kay can be contacted at 480-703-8233 or [email protected]; Peter’s contact is 602-509-4328 or
[email protected]. If you would like to view the John and Mark dramas then you can find the
videos by searching for “Mountain View Presbyterian Gospel” on YouTube.

Thank you all so much for your generous donations to Our Manna Closet. We had more requests for
donations in October than any month since the Manna Closet was opened. Please help us in
continuing to assist people in our congregation and community who are in need. We are in need of
both hot and cold cereal, dry or boxed milk, and shelf stable fruit juice. Please bring your donation
any Sunday and place it in the shopping cart outside of the Sanctuary!
An Advent Study
December 3, 10 and 17 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary
How do you find joy in preparing for Christmas?
Enjoying the music of the season either your own personal music or concerts
Breathing in the smells of the season such as cookies baking and pine trees
Celebrating with friends and family
Reminiscing on celebrations of the past
Seeing decorations as you venture out
Sending and receiving of Christmas wishes that arrive in the mail or email
Decorating of your home and welcoming guests
Buying and wrapping gifts
Sharing what you have through serving others less fortunate
Participating in worship services
As you can see there is not just one way to celebrate the Advent season or prepare for Christmas,
just as there is not one way to approach and worship God. Bud and Pat Engstrom will lead us in a
study during Advent that examines spiritual walks and how knowing your personal style for
worship will bring you to a closer walk with God. As we examine the styles and how they are
displayed during the Christmas season we can better understand where we will find the greatest
joy in the celebration..
