Homecoming Is Back
Congratulations, Brooklyn! Senior, Brooklyn
Scobee, was crowned by the homecoming queen of
1981, Jacki Hager O’Reilly as the new 2014 queen.
The students say that their night was something to
remember. The theme for homecoming was
“Songs”; which happened to be the theme from the
last homecoming, 33 years ago. Students had dressup days all week that followed the theme and the
students, high school and elementary, participated
well and it raised the spirit of the week. On Thursday night, we held the annual Battle of the Classes
and the community pep rally for homecoming. A
bonfire was scheduled but, unfortunately due to rain
that was cancelled and the nights activities were
moved into the gym. On Friday, a parade was held
and we had around 40 entries from classic cars to
antique tractors, big machinery, horses, floats made
by the classes and the convertibles with the seven
queen candidates and their football escorts.
On Friday night, the football game began at 7 p.m.
with the Panther Pride Marching Band playing the
National Anthem prior to the start. The Panthers
played the South Nodaway Longhorns but came up
short in the end. At half-time of the game we introduced our queen candidates. The girls fathers were
their escorts and our first grade attendants and the
1981 queen crowned the 2014 homecoming queen.
We would like to thank Jacki for returning to her
alma mater to present the queen with flowers and a
crown after 33 years absence of football. Following
the football game the local Lion’s club entertained
the crowd with a fireworks display. Following the
fireworks the students from Gilman City, North Daviess, and Pattonsburg were invited to a dance that
was held in the cafeteria. The students that attended
enjoyed the night full of dancing.
Victorious over DeKalb in an extra-inning thriller with a score of 4-1. Moving on to
Sectionals hosted at Pattonsburg and becoming victors once again with a score of 12-1.
This advanced the girls on to the state quarterfinal game played at Jefferson High School
in Conception, Missouri where the girls fell to the State Champion Eagles 2-9.

The high school girls softball team ended their season 21-5, Coach Jenkins expected the girls to play hard, stay positive, and compete when
going into Districts, which is exactly what they did in winning both
Districts and Sectionals, and even remained positive in losing to Jefferson
2-9 at the Quarter-Final game on Saturday, October 18. Coach was
thankful for the great season the girls had, and said that the girls had
met his expectations in all areas, and everybody was able to step up in
certain situations. Overall, the girls had an amazing season, breaking
school records in multiple situations, and we couldn’t have asked for a
better year. Congratulations and great job, girls! —article by Brooklyn

Junior High Softball
Pattonsburg’s Junior High Girls Softball ended their season with a record
of 3-8, winning twice against Osborn and once against Gallatin. Coach
Courtney Phipps of North Daviess happily stated that this year’s girls had
met the expectations that the other coaches and herself had set for them.
She also stated that the girls came together as a team, played as a team,
worked hard, and learned the different positions. Coach Phipps closing
advice for the season and next season would be to continue practicing and
by doing so next season the girls will have more potential to win more
games, and continue to have fun. Congratulation’s girls and we are looking
forward to next season being a great one! Article by Brooklyn Scobee

High School Basketball
It is the time of year for the basketball season to start again. All the coaches and players are very excited for this
year’s season. Coach Hodge will be the head coach for the girl’s team. Coach Jenkins will be the head coach for
the boy’s team, and he will also be an assistant coach for the girls. Coach Jenkins says he expects the team to improve every day. When asked what his goals are he said he wants to compete in the conference and improve on
last year’s overall record. Coach Hodge says he expects the girls work hard and be successful, compete for tournament championships, and get 20+ wins. His goals for the season are to advance into the post season.
Pattonsburg will be co-oping with North Daviess High School this year. Coach Annette Lowrey from North Daviess
will be coming over to help coach the girls. The Jamboree will be on November 21-22, at DeKalb high school and
the first game of the season will be on November 25, at Gallatin. Both teams are practicing hard and getting ready
so that they can start off the season with a win. We are looking forward to a really great season this year here at
Pattonsburg. —Article by Mark Bowles

According to Mr. Hodge, coach of the girls’ basketball team, the girls’ basketball season is going well, and they are definitely improving as the season progresses. These girls are learning how to play as a team, and have improved tremendously since the first

Warner, Hannah McDaniel, Summer Davis, Blythe Hunter, and Makelle Hobson. Saturday, October 25, the girls traveled to Winston for the Winston Tournament to play for first place. Though the girls lost, they played their hearts out on the court and came
home with a second place trophy. Coach Hodge’s expectations are for the girls to continue to improve and get better as the season
moves on.
Mr. Jenkins, coach of the boys’ basketball team, states that the boys are improving every day. They have improved on figuring out
how to play as a team, and figuring out the difference between elementary and junior high basketball. The boys’ basketball players
include: Cody Crabtree, Korey Herniak, Dillon Turner, Dakota Eaton, Kaden Hodge, Patrick Cowley, Zach Moore, Lewis Hunter,
Carter Crone, Ira Johnson, Blake Hulett, Brett Curtis, Dalton Hobson, Dillon Gannon, and Logan Pankau. The boys traveled to
Winston for the tournament as well, they played Stewartsville and beat them, and went on to play Gilman City and East Harrison,
and lost to both teams. Coach Jenkins expectations are for the team to continue to improve.
Keep up the hard work boys and girls, and good luck on the rest of your season!! —Article by Kristen Booth
