The St. Vincent de Paul Society is conducting its
annual thanksgiving food drive. Every year, through
the generosity of St. Bartholomew parishioners we are
able to provide Thanksgiving baskets for the needy in
our area. As you prepare you holiday shopping list,
please consider donating some of the following items:
Turkeys: We are in great need of Frozen turkeys or gift cards to purchase turkeys are
also appreciated. Monetary contributions to the parish St Vincent de
Paul Society can be dropped at the rectory.
Other items needed:
Cranberry sauce, gravy mix, pie crust mix and pie fillings, canned
ham and other meats, mixed vegetables, canned sweet potatoes,
yams, whole white potatoes, instant potatoes,
bread stuffing, jello, pudding, canned fruit, dried or evaporated milk
Please have all donations in by Tuesday, November 18.
The baskets will be distributed on Saturday, November 22

With Loving Hands
So often we are defined by the work that we do to make a
living. Unpaid work or volunteer work is almost invisible, even
though its value to families and to our society is immense.
Work done in the home, such as rearing children, is invisible
and is not counted in the gross national product, the official
evaluation of productivity of our society. The work of rearing
children, of guiding adolescents, of donating blood, helping
in libraries, delivering meals to seniors, raising funds for
not-for-profit organizations, and so on, is coming up short as
people are pressed to give more and more of their time and
energy to paid jobs.
Our “job” is what we do, but our “vocation” is who we are.
We are called to serve others, to help those who need us in a
variety of situations. We aren’t all called to the same work, or
the same amount of work. We give what we have, according
to our abilities, in fidelity to the call each of us received. Our
vocation to serve others is rooted in our baptism. How we
live our call is a matter of individual gifts and “talents.” Even
if our work is unpaid or unappreciated, it is valuable in God’s
eyes. Work done “with loving hands” is worthwhile and good,
even if it is invisible to those who decide what is economically
valuable.

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development is the domestic anti-poverty program
of the U.S. Catholic Bishops, working to carry out the mission of Jesus Christ “... to bring
good news to the poor ... release to captives ... sight to the blind, and let the oppressed
go free.” (Luke 4:18)
The belief that those who are directly affected by unjust systems and structures have
the best insight into knowing how to change them is central to CCHD. CCHD works to
break the cycle of poverty by helping low-income people participate in decisions that
affect their lives, families and communities. CCHD offers a hand up, not a hand out.
Next weekend, on November 23, the Collection for the Catholic Campaign for
Human Development (CCHD) will need your help. CCHD was founded to end the
cycle of poverty in the United States by funding organizations that help people help
themselves. With the tradition of improving education, housing situations, and economic
development, CCHD continues to make a positive impact in communities nationwide.
Your contribution will defend human dignity and help those living on the margins of our
society. Please give generously to the CCHD Collection.

signifie pour nous ? Jésus parle de sa venue. N’estIl pas déjà venu. C’est donc qu’Il doit revenir ? A
chaque messe, nous l’affirmons exprimant ainsi:
« Nous attendons ta venue dans la gloire ! » Après sa
Résurrection, nous le savons, « Jésus est monté au Ciel,
pour être assis à la droite du Père, d’où Il viendra juger les
vivants et les morts… et son Règne n’aura pas de fin. » A la fin
des temps, nous attendons son retour pour le jugement
dernier… Mais nous savons aussi qu’Il est et reste présent
au milieu de nous, comme Il nous la promis: « Je suis
avec vous jusqu’à la fin des temps… ! » Donc même si
nous pouvons affirmer que le Seigneur est vivant au milieu
de nous, ce que nous redit le prêtre à chaque invocation
liturgique : « Le Seigneur soit avec vous ! » Nous affirmons et annonçons aussi dans le même temps sa venue à la
fin des temps, dans sa gloire.
Il nous reste donc à être vigilant, à veiller, à prier et à mettre en pratique les Talents que le Seigneur nous a confiés,
comme la femme vaillante de la première lecture du livre des Proverbes. Elle fait le bonheur de sa maison…
Accepter d’accueillir les talents que nous avons reçus et à les exercer, c’est là tout l’art et la manière de rester
pleinement vigilants et dans la lumière… pour attendre le venue du Seigneur !

CON MANOS AMOROSAS
Con frecuencia se nos define según el trabajo que hacemos para
ganarnos la vida. El trabajo gratis o voluntario es casi invisible, a pesar
de que su valor para nuestras familias y para nuestra sociedad es
inmenso. El trabajo hecho en casa, como criar los hijos, no cuenta en
el producto nacional bruto, en la evaluación oficial de productividad
de nuestra sociedad. No existe suficiente ayuda para trabajos tales
como criar los hijos, guiar adolescentes, donar sangre, ayudar en
las bibliotecas, repartir comidas a los ancianos, solicitar fondos para
organizaciones sin fines de lucro, y demás, pues las personas se sienten
presionadas a tener que dedicar más y más tiempo y energía a trabajos
remunerados.
Nuestro “trabajo” es lo que hacemos, pero nuestra “vocación” es lo
que somos. Somos llamados a servir a los demás, a ayudar a quienes
nos necesitan en diversas situaciones. No todos somos llamados
al mismo trabajo, o a la misma cantidad de trabajo. Damos lo que
tenemos, de acuerdo a nuestras habilidades, fieles al llamado que cada
cual recibe. Nuestra vocación de servir a los demás está arraigada en
nuestro bautismo. Cómo vivimos nuestro llamado depende de nuestros
dones y “talentos” personales. Aun si nuestro trabajo no es remunerado
ni apreciado, es valioso a los ojos de Dios. El trabajo ejecutado “con
manos amorosas” es meritorio y bueno, aunque sea invisible para
quienes deciden lo que es valioso económicamente.

Valor Espiritual de la Santa Misa
Como Cristianos debemos saber, que la Santa Misa es
el más Sagrado acto de religión: No se puede hacer
nanda más glorioso para Dios, nada más favorecedor
para nuestra Alma, que el piadoso Acto de asistir a la
Santa Misa lo más frecuente que podamos.
