To all our visitors…
Bishop John R. Gaydos, the clergy and the faithful of the Diocese of Jefferson City welcome you and hope that your time in
our Mother Church may be an opportunity to share our faith
and joy in Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Our parish was formed in 1959 and was elevated to the title of
Cathedral in 1968 and dedicated in 1974. Please enjoy the beauty of this spacious building dedicated to the Glory of God and
the memory of Saint Joseph, the Husband of Mary. It was built
for the inspiration of all who enter. Free tour booklets are available.
All visitors who are not of the Roman Catholic faith are most
welcome to join us in prayer and worship, but not to receive Holy Communion. Reception of Holy Communion is a sign of full
unity and membership in the Catholic community. Together let
us all pray for the unity of all believers.
If you desire to become a member of the Roman Catholic
Church or to become a member of the Cathedral Parish, please
call the parish office at 573-635-7991.
All contributions to the Cathedral ministries and maintenance
are sincerely appreciated. Please remember this Cathedral parish
in your Last Will and Testament to support our parish’s ongoing
mission.

Thirty-Third Sunday
November 16, 2014
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
A LETTER FROM OUR BISHOP
WELCOME to all who gather in our Cathedral Church for the
Thirty-Third Sunday of Ordinary Time.
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) has
come to the aid of communities nationwide for over 40 years in
an effort to eradicate poverty. During World Youth Day, July
25, 2013, Pope Francis told us to “never tire of working for a
more just world, marked by greater solidarity.” CCHD puts
these words into action by funding housing, education, the development of job opportunities and lifting up and helping solve
the needs of poor and low-income communities all across the
nation.
WEEK OF PRAYER: We ask each member of our Cathedral
parish to pray for the members of one of the parishes or missions in our diocese this week. As a Cathedral Church, all our
parishes are linked to us and we wish to deepen the spiritual
bond with them. Therefore, we will pray this week for St.
Andrew, Tipton.
CONGRATULATIONS to Maximilian Reeves, son of John
and Natalie Reeves who was baptized in the Cathedral last week!
Projects supported by CCHD work to build healthy, sustainable
futures for communities. Ten years ago, Boston’s Haley House
began offering bakery training at the request of a few regular
guests at the soup kitchen. Experiencing a tremendous demand, Haley House created a six-month course that includes
customer relations and basic business principles. Haley House
currently has 70 trainees who have completed the program and
are now employed in the Boston area.
FROM DEATH TO NEW LIFE-The Cathedral Parish
Family extends its sympathy and prayers to the family of
Curt Lepper, nephew of Jacob Lepper. May he have eternal
rest in his heavenly home and may the Lord give comfort to
his loved ones who mourn their loss.
ADOPT-A-FAMILY PROGRAM
The Cathedral's ‘Adopt-A-Family’ Christmas program for needy
families is drawing near. We are in need of your help. There will
be gift tags and cash donation envelopes on the Christmas tree in
the front entrance of the Cathedral the weekend of November
22/23. You can make Christmas merrier for families in need by
taking a tag (s) to purchase gifts, or contribute a cash donation to
help purchase food and gifts. All gifts should be returned to the
Cathedral by December 7. If you have any questions, contact
Ann Bax at 636-5895 or [email protected]; or Claudia Kehoe
at 634-4151 or [email protected]. Thank you for
your generosity!
This Collection is the primary source of funding for CCHD’s
anti-poverty grants and education programs. Collection funds
offer new hope each year to those living in poverty throughout
the United States. And remember, 25 percent of the Collection’s proceeds stays here in our Diocese to fight poverty in our
communities and defend the dignity of our neighbors. Help us
defend human dignity and show Christ’s charity to those in
need.
With the 25 percent of the Collection we keep in our Diocese,
we funded three important local projects. The Central Missouri
Foster Care & Adoptive Association (CMFCAA) received funding for its Adoptive Parent Network (APN) program and for its
Tuesday Night Training program. CMFCAA is the only organization in central Missouri that provides post-adoption services to families. The Adoptive Parent Network program provides professional trainers in the areas of child trauma, grief,
attachment, bonding, adoptive family respite services, mental
health, insurance coverage, and renegotiating adoption contacts.
The Tuesday Night Training program provides monthly professional parent training for foster care and families that have
adopted through the foster care system, as well as those resource providers who care for abused and neglected children.
These programs serve some of the poorest and most vulnerable
children in our state.
CHRISTMAS BAZAAR RESULTS
CONGRATULATIONS to Millie Schell, winner of the
$5,000 Grand Prize and to Harry & Helen Cook, winner of
the $500 Second Prize in the Cathedral Christmas Bazaar Raffle. The sponsors of the Grand Raffle extend their sincere
thanks for your tremendous response in purchasing $16,150.00
in tickets!
Thank you to all who attended and worked at this year’s
bazaar. 1564 Adult and 132 Child Dinners were served!
More details will follow!
MILITARY SERVICES COLLECTION
The other important work of local CCHD in our Diocese is the
Rural Community Workers’ Alliance (RCWA) based in Milan,
Missouri. The RCWA works with the immigrant and lowwage worker community in northern Missouri. The program
seeks to secure improved community health systems and services, and to assure workplace safety for immigrant and refugee
food sector workers and their families.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Collection for
the Archdiocese for the Military Services. Your prayers and
support are truly a blessing. As Catholics in a worldwide faith
community, we treasure our belief that we may be continually
transformed by participation in the sacraments. The Archbishop, clergy and staff of the Archdiocese thank everyone for sharing the mission through your prayerful and generous support.

Campaign for Human Development and the groups it funds,
please visit www.povertyusa.org, or contact the local Diocesan
Director at [email protected], 573/635-7719.

THE DOOR IS OPEN-If you are a Catholic man,
age 18 or older, please prayerfully consider joining
with other Catholic men around the world dedicated
to serving God and neighbor. If you are a mother or
spouse, please encourage the adult men in your life to
consider joining the Knights of Columbus. Since 1882 the
Knights have remained true to its founding principles of charity,
unity, fraternity, and patriotism; and has grown from several
members in one council to more than 14,000 councils and 1.8
million members throughout the world. Since 2001 Bishop
McAuliffe Council #12992 of the Cathedral of St. Joseph has
done many things for our parish, school, and community. All that
is asked is a few hours a year from each member; and membership dues are less than $40 per year. The next First Degree initiation is Wednesday, December 10, at 6:30 p.m. at the Catholic
Center. Please contact Brian Johnson (694-1991) for more information about joining this great organization or visit our website
at www.kofc12992.com.

Jerry Schwartze (636-9712) if you are able to make a donation to
this ongoing effort that benefits newly released prisoners traveling to parts unknown by train with only the shirts on their back.

YOUTH MINISTRY NEWS
PRO-LIFE NEWS
The junior high class rooms had a change collecting contest this
past month to see which class could collect the most change for
the Halo Foundation Orphanage. The Mango Home in Africa
will receive the money collected. The class that collected the
most is 6C- Mr. Cassmeyer's class, with $86.56, and is the
winner of an ice cream sundae bar. The total amount collected
was $185.40 which will be presented to the Halo Foundation at
the EDGE program.
What a fantastic 40 Days for Life Prayer Vigil! We have completed 400 days of prayer and fasting in front of the Columbia
Planned Parenthood since September of 2009.
Only God knows how many lives have been affected by your
faithful prayer presence on the sidewalk, at home, or wherever
you may have been these past five years, as together we have
united as one body in Christ to pray for the end of abortion in
Columbia and in our State.
FAMILIES IN NEED PROGRAM
DYNAMIC BOOK ENVELOPES
The FAMILIES IN NEED PROGRAM will not be collecting
food items from November 11 through December 9, as our parish is committed to collecting for the Samaritan Center during
this time. We will resume collecting for Families in Need on
December 10. Thank you!
The donors hope you received and read the Catholic books donated by our parishioners at Christmas and Easter the past few
years. Our desire is to make this an annual Christmas & Easter
Cathedral tradition. To do this the donors need your support.
These books are not purchased by the Cathedral but by people
just like you, the people in the pews that have been inspired by
reading these books.
In your tithe envelope packet, you will notice there is an extra
envelope designated for Dynamic Catholic Book Give-a-way.
Any amount you can provide will be greatly appreciated so that
we may continue this well received tradition. Thank you!
