Murphy Best of St. Joseph passed away
at age 84 on Saturday November 8,
2014. Bettie was born December 26,
1929 to t.K. and Ethelyn Murphy of
DeKalb, MO. Both parents have preceded her in death.
At age 21, Bettie married Guy Best on
February 18, 1951. they had been married 55 years when Guy preceded her in
death Oct. 10, 2006.
Bettie was a devoted homemaker,
wife, and mother for all her married
life. Artistry, song, piano, and memorably-famous cooking were just a few
of Bettie’s contributions.
She will be sadly missed by her three
children: Byron (Buzzy) Best of
Rushville, MO., teresa (Best) Hiatt and
spouse of Overland Park, KS., Alan
Best and spouse of St. Joseph, 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, two
younger sisters J. Sue (Murphy) Smith,
and Janice F. (Murphy) Ford, numerous
cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Bettie will be
held at Community Christian Church
on Saturday, November 22, 11am.
Attendees are invited to stay as the
family then celebrates the lives of Guy
and Bettie Best. Memories, photos, fellowship and meal will be shared
together.

unexpectedly on Saturday, November
1, 2014.
He was born January 25, 1979 in
Hammond, iN. Mr. Cechovic attended
school in Des Moines, iowa and later
owned and operated CFS.

and fishing. Mike loved sports, especially the Royals, Chiefs and the Cubs.

at her home.
Verna was born on February 12, 1921
in tarkio, MO. to Archie and Bessie
(Adams) Hogue. She graduated from
tarkio High School.
She was married to Boyd S. Claywell,
he passed away on October 23, 2005.
Verna Lee was a member of the
Copeland Baptist Church.
Verna was preceded in death by her
parents; sisters, Mildred Logsdon and
Vivian Waters, brothers Bill, Archie Jr.
& Larry Hogue.
Surviving family includes daughters
Connie Claywell, St. Joseph, Rosalie

Clemmons in Barnard, MO. Paul married Mona Murray on December 24,
1945. She preceded him in death
December 28, 1993. He then married

Patricia "trish" Donaher 54, of Saint
Joseph, passed away tuesday November 4, 2014 at her home.
She was born November 10, 1959 in
Beloit, Wi. daughter of Kathryn &
John Donaher. She graduated from
indiana university-Bloomington with a
Bachelor's in Economics, graduated
from Pittsburgh State with a Masters
(MA) in English, then from university
of Nebraska-Lincoln with a PHD in
English.
She was an English Professor at
Missouri Western State university.
trisha was preceded in death by her
father, John Edward Donaher. She is
survived by husband, ian Roberts and
son Liam Roberts of the home, mother,
Kathryn Donaher of Columbus, iN,
and sister, Cathi (David) Staublin of
Elizabethtown, iN. She was cremated
under the care of the Rupp Funeral

BEtty M. DOWDEN
1935 - 2014 | Age 79
Betty M. Dowden, 79, St. Joseph,
passed peacefully at her home Friday,
October 31, 2014.
She was born June 29, 1935 to
timothy and Leona (Giles) Staats in
Quincy, iL. Betty married Lowell Dean
Dowden on August 2, 1957. He preceded her in death on May 1, 1977.
She earned a Bachelor of Science
degree in nursing from Daughters of
Charity St. Vincent De Paul and was a
lifelong active member of the Nurses
Association.
She worked as a nurse for over 30
years at Sisters Hospital and Heartland
East Hospital and retired as a charge
nurse of one day Surgery. She later
owned a home cleaning business.
Betty enjoyed travel, sports, camping
and gardening. She loved American
history and created a library of books
and music in her home.
She was also preceded in death by her
parents; mother and father-in-law,
Ralph and Helen Dowden; and grandchildren, Michael Kretzer and Dakota
Lawrence.

Mildred was born on October 8, 1923
in Wathena, KS. to Peter and Mary Ann
(Deeken) Studer, Sr. She was a homemaker and member of Cathedral of St.
Joseph.
She married ira H. Eggers on
November 23, 1944. He preceded her
in death on April 15, 1998. She was
also preceded in death by her parents,
one brother, Peter J. Studer, Jr., two sisters, Frances Studer, Marie Harlow.
Survivors include one daughter,
Jeannie Kerner (Jay), son, Ron Eggers
(Mary Kaye); 4 grandchildren, Cassie
Bond (Shannon), Abby Kerner (Doug
Howard), Dan Eggers and John Eggers
(Suzanne); 4 great-grandchildren,
Nicholas, Elise, Ella and Adeline and
several nieces and nephews.

1932 - 2014 | Age 81
Lawrence J. “Larry” Garvey, Jr., 81,
St. Joseph, died thursday, October 30,
2014 at a local healthcare facility.
He was born December 13, 1932 to
Lawrence and Julia (Kamler) Garvey,
Sr. in St. Joseph.
He was a graduate of Lafayette High
School and proudly served in the u.S.
Army. He worked in the Sheet Metal
industry for over 34 years as a journeyman, business manager of Sheet Metal
Workers Local #81 and business agent
of Local #2. He also served on the
Board of the Sheet Metal Workers
international Association.
Larry was a member of St. Francis
Xavier Catholic Church, Local #2
Sheet Metal Workers and American
Legion Post #359.
He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing
and loved his Royals.
He was preceded in death by his wife
of 54 years, Shirley Garvey; parents;
sisters, Geraldine Fisher and Patricia
Claycomb; and brother, John J. Garvey.
Survivors: daughters, Dianne Leonard

(Mike); grandchildren, Lance Leonard
