Sonship, The The Apostle Paul says that we are to “leave the principles of the doctrine of Christ and go on unto perfection” or maturity. The Lord has blessed and trusted us with Sonship School of the Firstborn (SSOTF), a school in the church. Pleasing the Father is what SSOTF is all about. Our focus is schooling the people of God in the things of God. Sonship School Of The Firstborn The foundation Scripture for SSOTF is Hebrews 12: 22-23, “But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,...” Every week the students quote this scripture because it is the foundation, revelation and illumination of SSOTF. When something is written in heaven it is the will of God to be manifested in the earth. In our foundation Scripture, not only does it tell us it is written in heaven but also written to God. This is powerful because Psalms 119:89 says, “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.” Pleasing the Father is what SSOTF is all about. We have people all over the world who desire to be a part of SSOTF. It’s All About Him, Jesus Christ! To be a child of God is the Father’s gift to us, but it is the child’s gift to the Father to become a son. “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given...” (Isaiah 9:6). There is a revelation of a difference between a child of God and a son of God. The Father is pleased when we can present ourselves like Father, like Son. “And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:16-17). The Father was pleased with the Son and when we, the children of God, grow up into sons, the Father is pleased with us. Mount Sion is a word used for the church. Jesus taught His disciples, “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid” (Matthews 5:14). The church is to be what He ordained it to be in heaven, mount Sion! We move from mount Sion to the city of the living Fifth Dimension God where-by the children of God end up making such an impact on the city that it becomes the city of God. In the Old Testament people called Jerusalem the city of David. Why? Because David made such an impact on Jerusalem that when they thought about Jerusalem they thought about David. The church should make that type of impact on the city it is in. It is a sad commentary when people of a city do not know where a particular church is in that city. Many times they can locate city hall, the fire station, the library and the court house, but not the church. Why? Because mount Sion, the church, has not made an impact on its community. Hebrews 12: 22-23 is not referring to the earthly Jerusalem in the Middle East, but the heavenly Jerusalem. Jerusalem means peace. The presence of God, in the heavenly Jerusalem is God’s light, life and love. In the absence of that we are dead, neutered, impotent, void and powerless. God’s presence is in mount Sion. People can tell when the presence of the Lord is in a place, but might not necessarily be able to articulate the essence of it. The Scripture goes on to say “an innumerable company of angels.” Angels get into the earth through the church (see Genesis 28). Jacob was running for his life and he settled down in a particular place. It was not circumstance; it was the providence of God. Jacob fell asleep in that place and the heavens were opened and the angels of God were ascending and descending. Jacob awoke out of his sleep and said, “This is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.” (Genesis 28:17b)There was no physical building there. “And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it. And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first” (Genesis 28:18-19). Jesus clarifies this concept in Matthews 16:15-18 when he asked, “But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus said, “…upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Jesus is the rock of our salvation. The angels of God are ascending and descending upon covenant people. That’s why it is important for us not just to come to church, but to become a part of the church and be plugged in and connected. When we are connected everywhere we go the 91st provisional Psalms is our covering. “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust.” The house of God is that place. Hebrews 12:22-23 continues with “the general assembly and church of the firstborn.” Sonship School of the FirstBorn is a school within the church. One of the reasons why members of a church do not become sons is because we come to church and fail to “be schooled” in the church. The word assembly is the Greek word ekklesia which refers to the church or congregation. We come to a general assembly, not just a common place, but a chief place. A church is not a building, the church is the people.
