When we love something in our life, we want to be connected to it in a special way. It works that way in a parish, too. One way you can show care and love for this parish is to become part of the Pastoral Council. We are accepting names at this time, so if you know someone who loves this parish and would do a good job serving in an advisory role to Fr. Tom, we want to know those names. Pastoral Council members are Fr. Tom’s eyes and ears, especially as liaisons to other parish committees. Each month Fr. Tom and I, along with Council members, discuss relevant and important issues. Based on those discussions, Fr. Tom can make informed decisions regarding the parish. A term on the Pastoral Council is three years. It is not a decision-making council, but an advisory council. Meetings are the second Tuesday of the month, with a summer break. We have good people in this parish, and some of you are still seeking to become involved. If you love this parish, Pastoral Council might be the perfect role for you. Right now, we have a few openings, so we would love to hear from you, offering your own name or the name of someone you think might be a good candidate. There are many exciting things happening in the parish in the upcoming months and years, so it’s a great time to get on board. You may submit names to any council member below or contact me at the rectory (766-3773). Years ago, when the Mass was said in Latin, people in the pews would pray their rosaries or other prayers from their prayer books. At the time of the consecration, as the priest lifted the host and the chalice, bells would ring so the people would know something extraordinary was happening. That was the indicator that they should look up. Plain bread and wine were being transformed into the precious Body and Blood of Christ at that exact moment, through the power of the Holy Spirit. Even though the Mass is now said in English, those bells mean the same thing. A miracle is occurring, so look up with the eyes of faith to witness it. 4 | Welcome to Holy Cross Parish · Kaukauna, Wisconsin Calling All Knitters Call the parish office at 766-3773 if you would like to knit prayer shawls this winter or if you can donate yarn for shawls. Many of our veteran knitters are no longer able to knit, so we hope you will jump in to keep this special care ministry alive and well. NAMI Help. Hope. Recover. What is NAMI Fox Valley? We are the local affiliate of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). Our mission is to support and empower those affected by mental illness and provide the vision to live in a stigmafree community and society that supports and promotes mental health and recovery. Serving Calumet, Outagamie, Waupaca and northern Winnebago counties, NAMI Fox Valley works tirelessly to raise awareness and provide essential educational, advocacy, outreach and support programs for people living with mental illness, and their loved ones. Through the efforts of our dedicated staff and volunteers, we offer 16 different educational, support and outreach programs in our community. Mental illnesses are brain disorders – medical illnesses like any other. One in four adults – close to 60 million Americans – experiences a mental health disorder in a given year. One in 10 children, meanwhile, live with a serious mental or emotional disorder. Tragically, less than one-third of adults and one-half of children will receive the necessary mental health intervention to treat their disorders. Sadly, stigma is one of the biggest barriers that prevents people from seeking treatment. We will no longer allow mental illness to remain in the shadows where people feel shamed and blamed for their illness or too embarrassed or afraid to seek help. As the community's voice on mental illness, NAMI Fox Valley is steadfast in its commitment to overcome ignorance through education, and replace stigma with compassion and understanding. If you or a loved one is suffering, know that you are not alone and that NAMI is here to help. If you'd like to help, we invite you to join us – become a member, supporter or volunteer. If you'd like to learn more about mental illness and all that NAMI Fox Valley is doing in our community, invite them to speak to your civic group, employees or your classroom. Help is here. Thanks to all volunteer helpers! Mass with Anointing of the Sick Join us for Mass with the Anointing of the Sick on Tuesday, November 18, at 1:00 pm at Kimberly Church. Anointing of the Sick is for anyone whose health is complicated by aging, sickness, surgery, birth trauma, marriage difficulties, anxiety, depression or addictions. Gifts are forgiveness, faith in God’s presence and inner peace. Touch - through the laying on of hands, and anointing of the forehand and palms, are a symbol of the healing presence of the Spirit. Oil of the Infirm symbolizes inner strengthening. The words of anointing speak to our hearts: “Through this holy anointing may the Lord, in his love and mercy, help you with the grace of the Holy Spirit. May the Lord, who frees you from sin, save you and raise you up.” This sacrament is for the living and can be repeated as often as needed. 6 |Welcome to Holy Cross Parish Kaukauna, Wisconsin Monday, November 17 7:00 am Annette Niesz Tuesday, November 18 7:00 am Barb Kroll Wednesday, November 19 7:00 am Living and deceased members of the Bob and Ceil Martzahl Family Thursday, November 20 7:00 am No intention 8:20 am No intention Friday, November 21 7:00 am Mass of Reparation Saturday, November 22 4:30 pm Steven Schaffer Sunday, November 23 7:30 am Living and deceased members of the Clare and Dennis Bowers Family 9:15 am Holy Cross Parish Family 11:00 am Ron Huss Holy Cross Parish Activities This Week Monday, November 17 8 am - 4 pm Adoration (enter through ramp door) (Whenever there is a Monday funeral, there will be no exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.
