A Message from Father Tom…
First Friday Communion Calls
Monday through Thursday 8 am - Noon and 1 - 4 pm
Friday 8 am - Noon (Offices closed Friday afternoons)
I always enjoy when people ask about different Catholic
practices. As we learn more, it is then that we will have
more tools and options as we work on our faith. As I was
preparing to visit some homebound parishioners, I said that I
was going to make my “First Friday calls.” A person in the
office had never heard of that before and asked, “What is a
First Friday call?” This is an excellent question, so I thought
I would explain it in the bulletin so everyone will know.

** SCRIP RAFFLE **
At one time, the Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus was
very important here at Holy Cross Parish. In fact, there are
four images of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in our Church.
I hope everyone will now try to find all four. Let me know if
you can’t find them all. Since the Devotion of the Sacred
Heart of Jesus is about God’s love for us, and God reveals
his love in a perfect way in the Sacrifice of the Mass, the
Eucharist is central to the Devotion to the Sacred Heart.
Every Friday through March: Every $100 you buy in
Scrip gets your name entered into a weekly drawing for a
$50 Express Gas card. Stop in!
In the 17th century, St. Margaret Mary Alacoque had a series
of visions which popularized the Devotion to the Sacred
Heart even more. One of the promises she received was the
call to receive communion on nine consecutive first Fridays
of every month, in addition to Mass on Sunday. Remember
that Jesus offered his life for us on the Cross on Friday.
Every month, people would go to confession so they would
be in a state of grace and then receive communion.

CRS Rice Bowl Reflection: Kenya
This week, CRS Rice Bowl invites us to enter
into solidarity with the people of Kenya. We are
encouraged to reflect on the Catholic social
teaching principle, Sacredness and Dignity of
the Human Person. Let us pray this week for our brothers
and sisters in Kenya and all around the world, that we may
respect and uphold the sacredness of life and dignity of all
people. Rice Bowls are at all entrances.
Lend a Hand – Lenten Collection
The Kaukauna Catholic Social Concerns Ministry
will collect through March 30 for the Emergency
Shelter annual Lenten Collection. The Emergency
Shelter provides assistance to men, women and
families. This year, we are focusing our collection list on
the needs of the children and basic needs at the Emergency
Shelter. An item list and collection bin are at each church
entrance. Thank you in advance for generously lending a
hand. You truly make a difference.
It has become a tradition to bring communion to the
homebound on the First Friday of every month so that people
can participate in the Sacred Heart Devotion, celebrating
God’s perfect love in the Eucharist. This is why we bring
communion to the homebound on the First Friday of every
month. If you, or someone you know, is homebound and
would like a visit and receive communion, please contact the
parish office at 766-3773. Or, if you would like to bring
communion to the homebound on First Fridays, please
contact the office for training.

4 | Welcome to Holy Cross Parish · Jesus Loves You Very Much
Each week during Faith Formation class, part of the lesson is to
learn about a Saint. In our Book series, “Be My Disciples,” each
grade level talks about a different saint. This is what the First
Grade Students learned about Saint Patrick: Saint Patrick was a
bishop. He taught people in Ireland about the Holy Trinity. A shamrock is a symbol to show
how there is one God in three Divine Persons. Each one of the three leafs represents the Father, the Son and the
Holy Spirit.

-So the Lenten Journey BeginsKeeping God at the Center of Your Life
“It is written: The Lord, your God, shall you worship and
him alone shall you serve.” Matthew 4:10
Tempted between the riches and
power of this world and service to
God, Jesus chose service to His
Father. If we wish to truly follow
Jesus we, too, must decide to turn
away from power and riches and
put God at the center of our lives.
Pope Francis asks everyone to remember the poor and
the needy during this sacred time of Lent.
Thank You to Ministers of the Eucharist
Thank you to ministers of the Eucharist who step up at each
Mass. Your ministry is very important. If you are trained and
see that we are short on ministers after distribution has begun,
do not be afraid to come up to the altar to take a cup or paten
of hosts. It will certainly help with the flow. Thanks, also, to
those who may come up and find that they are not needed.
Please don’t ever be embarrassed if that happens.
Tired of Riding the Diet Roller Coaster?
Learn to eat foods you enjoy while losing weight. Be at
peace with food, and get off the diet roller coaster. Give God
a chance. Rediscover the freedom from food you had as a
child. People have also used the techniques taught in this
program to beat other addictions: alcohol, cigarettes, internet
games. A Light Weigh One King orientation meeting will
be held on Tuesday, March 11, at 6:30 pm, at St. Al School,
2401 S. Main Ave., Kaukauna. Park in the lot off of Ann St.
and enter through the breezeway. All invited. Call Nancy at
