Dear Brothers and Sisters,
LAST SUNDAY’S REFLECTIONS
Last Sunday’s Gospel spoke of talents which are gifts to us by God. Some of us have hidden talents while others hide their talents. Hidden talents must be made known. One must give these talents
their due place in life and accept them with humility, without being a hindrance to others. Hiding talents, on the other hand, is what the third man did. He dug a hole in the ground and buried his talents.
He was lazy to invest and work at it. Honing a talent requires sacrifice and dedication; otherwise, it
earns no return. The message of Jesus is that we use to the fullest the talents we have received.
END-OF-YEAR EVALUATIONS
There is a need for constant check: evaluation of our programs and projects. The end of the liturgical/church year is commencing. This is the time to take a closer look at our liturgies. We need the
collaboration of all parties. Concerted efforts are to be made; a lack of it results in the liturgy being
boring and loathsome. We need participation by all; missals and hymnals should be used to follow
readings, music and other activities. The use of the new missals is a passport to meaningful participation. Use it holding it in your hand during the entire Mass. We can either progress or regress. As for
Church decorations for festivities and social activities, the same people volunteer while others ignore
the call and show apathy. Volunteering is an opportunity to meet and mingle with other parishioners.
Please note the Christmas Outdoor Decorating Party has changed to Saturday, December 6th. With
regards to the Ministry Scheduling system, how many actually do use it? Has it proven a success?
Then why do so many miss their appointments? As everything else, our Religious Education program
must be evaluated. It should not be mere repetition. Perhaps it needs more creativity. We must devise
ways and methods to improve it. We need our personnel and resources for the implementation and
evaluation of all programs. How are we doing with the Attendance Cards? Once again, we need the
collaboration of all concerned to implement it. If there are problems, we should seek help and expertise from appropriate persons. I am meeting with the clergy, musicians and resourceful persons this
week. We cannot be complacent with our programs and schedules. I am aware that change is difficult
and may hurt some, but growth comes with pain. I shall let you know the outcome next week.
CHRISTMAS CONCERTS
There will be a Concert of Christmas music sung by award-winning Italian tenor, Michael
Castaldo and the chart-topping UK Soprano Rebecca Newman who will kick off the holiday season in
Staten Island on Sunday, November 30th at Notre Dame High School on Howard Avenue. Tickets are
on sale for $25 for general admission and $75 VIP seating and reception. For further details go to
http://brownpapertickets.com/event/884432. This concert will benefit various faith based and cultural
organizations in the New York area. They are giving back a 20% donation for every ticket sold. If you
prefer to call the Box Office, you can call 1-800-838-3006.
Staten Island’s Richmond Choral Society is presenting Franz Shubert’s beautiful Mass in Bflat
Major and living composer Stephen Chatman’s Carols of the Nativity, on Saturday, December 6th at
8 PM at Sacred Heart Church, 981 Castleton Avenue, S.I., NY. The program will end with a Community Christmas Carol sing-a-long. Please bring the children. Children under age of 12 years are free.
Call 718-448-3656 or visit at www.richmondchoral.com. Our very own Trish Calabrese and
Dr. Dorothy Matthews sing with the group that for over 60 years has been the reservoir of classical
composers’ Latin Masses on Staten Island.
May God bless you and your talents!

OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE
First Reading: Ezekiel 34:11-12, 15-17
This passage beautifully describes how the Lord God,
as shepherd, will tend his flock. He will rescue those
who are lost, bring back those who stray, heal the sick,
and “pasture” all.
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:20-26, 28
Paul once again stresses the significance of Christ’s
resurrection in the total divine plan, emphasizing that
Christ’s rising means that those who believe in him will
also rise after death. Christianity, he argues, is meaningless if it concerns only this life on earth. In the end,
even death will be destroyed, and “God will be all in all.”
Gospel: Matthew 25:31-46
With words both poetic and vivid, Jesus tells the disciples that since he is present in all people, whatever
they do to “one of my least brothers” they do to him;
and whatever they fail to do to his “least,” they fail to do
to him.

R.C.I.A. CLASS FORMING: 18 YEARS AND OLDER
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
(RCIA) is the process by which adults become

takes place at the Easter Vigil where the Rites of the
Sacraments (Baptism, Communion or Confirmation) are
administered. The Classes are offered weekly beginning
