Families who would like to sign up for gifts should stop at the Cameron County Assistance Office at 411 Chestnut Street in Emporium. Meanwhile, many Emporium area businesses and organizations are supporting the annual Christmas Toy Drive for needy children, in partnership with the local Ministerium and the Salvation Army. New, unwrapped toys can be taken to any of these locations through Tuesday: Northwest Savings Bank, Dollar General, Emporium Post Office, Citizens and Northern Bank, GKN Sinter Metals, Mountain Laurel Federal Credit Union and local churches. Patricia B. Chapell Patricia B. Chapell, 75, of Sweden Valley died Dec.4, 2010, at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital. In 1968, she married Clement C. Chapell, who predeceased her. She worked at several local health institutes, including Potter County Memorial Hospital, Maple View Nursing Home and Sweden Valley Manor. She was a member and secretary of AMOMA and was a 4-H horse judge. Among survivors are her mother, Elnora (Douglas) Burrous; a son, Chuck Chapell of Coudersport; a daughter, Edith Nickelsberg of California; and a sister, Leona (Allen) Matz of West Branch. A memorial service will be held at noon on Sunday, Dec.19, at Sweden Valley Grange. Memorials may be made to the Potter County Unit of the American Cancer Society or Coudersport Volunteer Ambulance Assn. Irene M. North Irene M. North, 73, of Harrison Valley died Dec. 3, 2010, in her home. She was employed by the Northern Potter School District for many years and was organist for Harrison Valley Federated Church. She also was a local election official for Harrison Township and served as Potter County coordinator for the state’s West Nile Virus Project. Among survivors are her husband of 56 years, Jerrold L. North; two sons; three sisters and a brother. Burial was in Whites Corners Cemetery. Olney Funeral Home of Ulysses was in charge of arrangements. Gregory S. Hess Lucinda Weakland & Thomas H. Greene Gregory S. Hess, 50, of Emporium, formerly of Lancaster County, died Dec. 4, 2010, in an automobile accident. He was a self-employed carpenter. Survivors include his mother, Elva Bucher Hess of Wrightsville, and two brothers. Barnett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Weakland of Mount Jewett, Pennsylvania announce the engagement of their daughter, Lucinda Weakland to Thomas H. Greene, Jr., son of the late Barbara Buck of Oakland, CA and the late Thomas H. Greene, Sr. of Lake Placid, Florida. The bride is a graduate of the University of Louisiana, Lafayette (1982), Medaille College, Buffalo, NY (1980), and Hamburg High School, Hamburg, NY (1976. She is employed at the Potter County Department of Emergency Services. The groom is a a graduate of the California Pacific School of Religion (1977), the University of California at Berkeley (1971), and Richmond Union High School (1971), Oakland, California. Mr. Greene is retired from the U.S. Postal Service and a veteran of two tours in Vietnam as a U.S. Army Ranger and POW, receiving numerous medals and commendations. A December 29, 2010 wedding is planned at St. Eulalia Church in Coudersport, Pennsylvania. Marian A. Whiting Marian A. Whiting, 84, of St. Marys, formerly of Emporium, died Nov. 30, 2010, at Elk Regional Health Center. A 1944 graduate of Emporium High School, she was briefly employed by Sylvania Electric and later was a clerk for several Emporium businesses. Among survivors are her husband of 70 years, James Whiting, and a sister in law, Beverly (Richard) Cool of Emporium. Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mary J. Elliott Mary J. Elliott 94, of Westfield, died Dec.1, 2010, at Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport. Arrangements are under the direction of the Olney Funeral Home, Ulysses. Births Fibromyalgia support group to meet Cedryck Richard Walaski A son, Cedryck Richard Walaski, was born on Nov. 30, 2010, to Gary Joseph and Nicole Lynne (Hurd) Walaski of Mills. He weighed, 8 pounds, 8.6 ounces, and joins a brother, Dawson, age 3. Maternal grandparents are Clayton and Patty Hurd of Mills. Maternal great-grandparents are Roxie Sharp of Mills and Fred Hoppe of Sabinsville. Paternal grandparents are Gary and Sue Walaski of Coudersport.
