H1B Information

H1B Information
As of April 10, 2010, USCIS completed a computer-generated random selection process, or
lottery, to select enough petitions to meet the 65, 000 general- category cap and 20,000capo
under the advanced degree exemption. For cap-subject petitions not randomly selected, USCIS
will reject and return the petition with filing fees unless it is found to be a duplicate filing.
Please be aware that the responsibility of the ISSI regarding H1B petitions is minimal and given
the information above, the ISSI is able to do the following only:
If your H1B petition has been selected and you are in need of a cap gap extension I-20, please
forward the following to the front desk of the ISSI:
•
•
An ISSI form 122
A copy of your receipt notice (I-797)
You can submit these documents to the ISSI by:
•
•
Faxing them to 617-373-8788
Scanning them to Ms. Cristina Costa at [email protected]
Please allow 10 business days for processing. You will receive an email when your I-20 is
available for pick up.
If your OPT is ending before 06/01/2014 and you are not sure whether or not you have been
selected, you can request an extension of your work authorization to June 1, 2014. In order to
do so, please forward proof of delivery and signature receipt to Stephanie McCormick @
[email protected]. In the subject line be sure to indicated “Cap Gap Extension to 06/01.”
Please be aware that this will remain applicable only if your petition is chosen for processing. If
your H1B petition is returned to you and is not chosen for processing, the June 1st completion
date is not applicable and students should contact the ISSI regarding their options.
The ISSI IS NOT responsible for updating students on the status of their H1B petitions (SEVIS
Updates). If questions exist regarding this matter, please refer to your IMMIGRATION
ATTORNEY as he/she has filed the H1B on your behalf.
