Clarence Elton Smith — Hayfield

Clarence Elton Smith, 85 years, took his final earthly journey
on Monday, April 8, 2013, at Susie’s Place in Hayfield, where he
had resided the last year.
Clarence was born Feb. 29, 1928, in Wasioja,
to Elton and Nellie (Hindal) Smith. Clarence
grew up on the Smith family farm on the east
edge of Wasioja with his three brothers and
three sisters. Clarence attended Wasioja and
Mantorville schools, and graduated with the
Mantorville High School class of 1946. Clarence
joined the U.S. Army and proudly served during the Korean conflict.
Clarence returned to Wasioja and farmed
Smith
with his father and his brother, Ellwyn. The
Smith brothers had a world renowned herd
of Holstein cattle, and won the Progressive
Breeders award given by the National Holstein
Friesian Association a record 17 times. They
sold the farm and cattle in 1975.
Clarence married Berenice A. “Libby” Kleeberger on Oct. 11, 1974. They moved to a “retirement farm” soon
after. Clarence worked as a road grader operator for Wasioja
Township, as well as for the Dodge Center Canning Company.
Clarence had the great privilege and honor to be chosen as the
official Minnesota Teamster for the 1976 Bicentennial Wagon
Train Pilgrimage. Clarence and Berenice traveled from Minnesota, joining wagons from each of the states, as well as President
Gerald Ford in celebration in Valley Forge, Pa., on July 4, 1976.
Clarence was a longtime member and officer of the Dodge
County Historical Society and the Dodge Center American
Legion Wells-Peterson Post 384, as well as a longtime member
of the United Methodist Church, Kasson-Mantorville Masonic
Lodge No. 11 and the Dodge County Sheriff ’s Posse.
Clarence will be especially remembered for his warm and
generous manner. A frequent favorite saying was “Every day’s a
good day.” He enjoyed visiting with so many of us about farming, the wagon train, and the way things used to be. He was very
proud of these things. Clarence enjoyed a trip in the country to
check out the crops.
Clarence is preceded in death by his wife, Berenice; his parents, Elton and Nellie Smith; brothers, Lawrence Smith, Stanley
“Stick” Smith, and Ellwyn “Ellie” Smith; sisters, Valera Kuster
and Roberta Andrist; a great-grandson; brothers-in-law, Lawrence Andrist and Sam Kuster; nephew, Brett Andrist; and his
grandparents.
Clarence is survived by his sister, Barbara (Doug) Leth of
Kasson; stepchildren, Brenda Kleeberger of Rosemount, Bonnie (John) Sontag of Farmington, Blair (Kathie) Kleeberger
of Dodge Center, and Trudy West of Spring Valley; nine stepgrandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; nephews, Brian
Andrist of Blaine, Dan Andrist of Hayfield, Greg Leth of Byron,
Jim Leth of Rochester, Jeff Smith of Mantorville, and Sam
Kuster of Houston; nieces, Jo Marie Morris of Rochester, Jo
Ann Holderness of Pequot Lakes, Suzanne Nelson of Mazeppa,
Merri Jo Ziebell of Kasson, Christina Smith of Hayfield, Belinda Andrist of West Concord, Bernita Redding of Mantorville,
Kirsten Caldwell of Westminster, Colo., Kim Berge of Mantorville, and Mary Beesecker of Houston; and sisters-in-law, Jan
Smith of Mantorville, Mary Alice Trapp of Dodge Center, and
Roberta Smith of Boulder, Colo; his great and great-great-nieces
and nephews; as well as many cousins and countless friends.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to all of
the wonderful people at Susie’s Place, Seasons Hospice, and to
Mary Alice Trapp for all of their care and support.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 13, at 10 a.m. at
St. John’s Lutheran Church, 301 8th Ave. N.W., in Kasson, with
Seasons Hospice Chaplin Carol Shaffer and Pastor Marie A.K.
Anderson of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson officiating.
Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery in Wasioja. Military graveside services will be conducted by members of the Dodge Center
American Legion.
Friends may call Friday, April 12, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St.
John’s Lutheran Church, 301 8th Ave. N.W. in Kasson, and one
hour prior to the service at the church Saturday.
Memorials are preferred to the Dodge County Historical Society or the Shriner’s Children Hospital.

Steven Orris, 32, of St. Charles, formerly of Rochester, died
Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Saint Marys Hospital, as a result of a
motor vehicle accident.
Steven John Orris was born May 19, 1980, in
St. Paul, and grew up in Rochester. He graduated from Mayo High School in 1999, and then
attended Bible College, RCTC and Winona State
University. Steven held various jobs, was active
in the Rochester Civic Theater, and the Masque
Youth Theater. He was engaged to Mina Haslerud, who died Sunday, April 7, 2013, as a result
of the same motor vehicle accident. He had
lived in St. Charles for the past several months.
Orris
Steve enjoyed singing along with Mina at Karaoke, and loved gathering with his family. He
worshiped and learned about faith, as part of the family of God
at the Marion Church of Christ. Steve and his mom rode horses
together and showed in the 4-H program at the Olmsted County
Fairs. He and his dad watched all the Dr. Who episodes. Steve recently began reading all the works of Shakespeare in the order
written. He and Mina had been planning a 2014 wedding.
Survivors include his mother, Debra Orris of Rochester; his
father, John Orris of Rochester; and his maternal grandparents,
Roger and Charlotte Harwick of Rochester.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents.
The funeral service for Steve, and the memorial service for
Mina, will be held together at 11 a.m. Friday, April 12, at the
Marion Church of Christ, with the Rev. Dr. Rick Walston officiating. They will be buried together in Grandview Memorial
Gardens.
Visitation for both will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, April
11, at Mahn Family Funeral Home ‑ Rochester Chapel, and one
hour before the services at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Marion Church of Christ,
Chanel One, or Oxbow Park.

Mina Haslerud, 37, of St. Charles, formerly of Rochester, died
Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Saint Marys Hospital, as a result of a
motor vehicle accident.
Mina Marie Haslerud was born Oct. 26, 1975,
in Spring Valley, to Charles and Julie (Gossman) Haslerud. She grew up in Whalan and
Lanesboro, where she attended school. She was
baptized, confirmed and had her first communion at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in
Lanesboro. She lived in this region until moving to Rochester in 1998. Mina was engaged to
Steven Orris, who died Saturday, April 6, 2013,
as a result of the same motor vehicle accident.

She had lived in St. Charles for the past several
months.
Mina enjoyed singing along with Steve at Karaoke and going
for rides with him in the area. She enjoyed playing with her cats
and loved gathering with her family. She and Steve had been
planning a 2014 wedding.
Survivors include two daughters, Julie “Abby” and JoAnne;
her mother, Julie Haslerud of Cresco, Iowa; two sisters, Trina
Haslerud of Plainview, and Ragina Haslerud of Mable; her
brother, Glendon of Minneapolis; her maternal grandmother,
Naomi Gossman of Cresco, Iowa; one niece, two nephews, and
many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, her maternal grandfather, and her paternal grandparents.
The memorial service for Mina, and the funeral service for
Steve, will be held together at 11 a.m. Friday, April 12, at the
Marion Church of Christ, with the Rev. Dr. Rick Walston officiating. They will be buried together in Grandview Memorial

Marie K. Bolster — Zumbrota
Marie K. Bolster, 76, of Zumbrota, died Monday, April 8, 2013,
at her home in Zumbrota.
The funeral service will be held Friday, April
12, at 3 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota, with Pastor Wayne D. Schoch officiating.
Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the
church.
Marie Katherine Bolster was born March 16,
1937, in rural Zumbrota, to John and Lorena
(nee Borgschatz) Hinrichs. She attended country school and graduated from Zumbrota High
School in 1955. On Sept. 24, 1960, she married

Donald Bolster at Christ Lutheran Church in
Zumbrota. They lived in Bay City, Wis., until
1965 when they moved to Zumbrota. While in Bay City, Marie
started working as a clerk at the Pierce County Courthouse, and
later at Monson Dray Lines Trucking in Red Wing. Marie was a
waitress at the Covered Bridge Restaurant from 1977 to 2010.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and enjoyed
dancing, following high school sports and spending time with
her friends and family, most recently her granddaughter,
Franki.
Marie is survived by her son, Mark Bolster of Goodhue;
daughter, Nancy (Eddie) Bremer of Zumbrota; grandchildren,
Travis (Heather) Grobe, Cody (Danielle) Grobe, and Franki
Bremer all of Zumbrota; three great-grandchildren, Molly, Alison and Creston Grobe; siblings, Doris (Richard) Miller of Zumbrota, Willis (Miriam) Hinrichs of Goodhue, Lucille (Donald)
Quam of Baldwin, Wis., John (Donna) Hinrichs of Long Beach,
Calif., Lillian (Dave) Anderson of International Falls, and Judy
Campbell of Roseville.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Don; daughter, Ann Grobe; grandson, Cole Grobe; sister, Ruth Hinrichs;

Elizabeth ‘Betty’ M. Jorgenson — Kasson
Elizabeth “Betty” M. Jorgenson, 90, of Kasson, died Tuesday,
April 9, 2013, at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center.
Betty Mae Benedix was born north of
Mantorville on March 12, 1923, to Cedric and
Elsie (Van Tassel) Benedix. She had two sisters,
Dorothy (Benedix) Trapp and Sally (Benedix)
Quakenbush, and one brother, Frederick Benedix. Betty attended rural schools and graduated from the Mantorville High School in 1940.
She loved music and played several instruments throughout her high school years. Betty
worked in the Dodge Center Bank from 19411944, and then as an accounting officer for the

Welfare Department of Dodge County in the
Mantorville Court House from 1944-1952.
Betty married Lawrence Jorgenson on June 4, 1949, at the
First Baptist Church in Kasson. They were married in a double
wedding with Betty’s sister, Sally (Aubrey) Quakenbush. Betty
and Lawrence resided on the farm east of Kasson until Betty
moved to Fairview in June 2011. She loved being a farm wife and
was always busy in her garden, cooking, knitting and quilting.
She was a very active member at the First Baptist Church
including serving for over 60 years as a pianist and organist,
and Sunday school teacher. Lawrence and Betty enjoyed traveling to a cabin in northern Minnesota for a few weeks for many
summers. They were able to spend several winters in Florida or
Arizona. Betty enjoyed having friends and family over for coffee
and treats and always had a joke for everyone.
Betty is survived by two sons, Brian (Bonnie) Jorgenson
of Kasson, and Scott (Jerianne) Jorgenson of Kasson; four
grandchildren, Teresa (Todd Bahr), Jeremy Jorgenson, Nichole
Jorgenson, and Lucas Jorgenson; and two great-grandchildren,
Zephyr and Gavin Bahr.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, who
died Jan. 21, 2013; her parents; and her brother and two sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at
