NEWS
This will be the last newsletter of the year and also for me, personally, my last weekly
newsletter at Applewood. During the past few days, I have thought about the many different
and exciting Applewood activities and achievements which I have had the privilege of writing
about over the past five years.
Applewood is truly a special school which affords our children a kaleidoscope of opportunities
to grow and develop. This of course is mainly thanks to the wonderful, dedicated teaching staff
that makes it all happen. As the year comes to a close, I encourage all parents to reflect on
what your children’s teachers have done and been for them this year. Once you have done
this, why not express it to the teachers and encourage them in what they do?

I also want to say thank you to every person who has helped to make my (and my families’)
time at Applewood such a rich and a memorable one. At the Spit Braai evening, the PA gave
me a super framed photo of all the children and staff standing outside the front of the school
as a gift. Looking at this picture will bring back warm memories for many years to come – thank
you. I certainly look forward to hearing about the many good things which will be happening in
the future at Applewood.
Our various awards evenings and Grade 7 Farewell is still to come. Please book these in your
diaries as these are not only celebrations, but also intentional functions designed to bring good
closure to the academic year.
Finally on another positive note – enrolment for next year continues to grow weekly. By the
end of the year (once all the Apple Pips have arrived), we shall have 179 pupils. The PrePrimary classes are filling very quickly. The Grade R class is already full and there are only 3
places left between the Apple Pips and Busy Bees classes. If you have a child with a younger
sibling who you intend to enrol in the Pre-Primary next year (even if they turn 3 during the
course of the year and will not start at the beginning of the year), please contact Mrs Luden as
soon as possible in order to avoid disappointment.
Have a super week ahead.

LIBRARY BOOK DONATIONS
The positive response parents have had to this initiative has truly
turned a new page for our school library. So far we have received
more than 200 books. These include many books by Roald Dahl, The
Magic Tree House series and books by award-winning authors such as
Anthony Horowitz and Michael Morpurgo. Well done and thank you to
everyone who has made a contribution. It is great to know we are all
on the same page when it comes to promoting the value of reading in
our school!
