Approximately $2000 was raised in support of the McLeod family from the generous donations of SPX parents. Thank you for your generous donations towards St. Vincent De Paul Christmas appeal which are much appreciated. This is a vital service, especially at this time of the year, and the donation baskets will be presented during our final mass on Friday. Liturgy News Thank you for all your support of the Religious Life of the School in 2014 (it certainly was a big year with the 50th celebrations). This includes attending liturgies and Masses and also your generous donations to the appeals that we have had throughout the year. This Friday, school will commence as usual at 8:30am. Students are not required to bring food as at 10:00am, they will enjoy a special break-up snack provided by our wonderful tuckshop helpers. Our final mass will commence at 11:00am in the church. We hope many of you are able to join in this end of year celebration as we say farewell to our Year6/7 leaders and give thanks for this 2014 school year. One of the most recent appeals was Sock it to Poverty where SPX raised $195. The St Vincent de Paul baskets are also full and your generous contributions are much appreciated. We will be handing over the donations to Laurie and Dorothy Birgan from the Salisbury St Vincent de Paul chapter at Mass on Friday. Thank you to Madonna Fogarty for her excellent preparation and co-ordination of all our school liturgies this year, especially this week. We would love to see you at the end of Year Mass at 11:00am on Friday at the St Pius X Church. All students are to be collected after the liturgy or arrangements made for them to access our Outside School Care facility. We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday 28th January for the commencement of the 2015 school year. Season of Advent As you know Advent began on Sunday. Advent means “coming” and is the four weeks leading Allison Malouf up to Christmas. Principal 2 The liturgical colour during Advent is purple (the preparing colour – we also see purple during Lent, the preparing time for Easter). Purple is in Advent wreaths and the priest’s vestments. Two Letters from the Salisbury Chapter of St Vincent de Paul: 1. Letter of Thanks: Dear St Pius X School Community, On behalf of the poor and disadvantaged of our area of the Parish, a “BIG Thank You” to Mrs Malouf, Mrs Fogarty, Staff, Parents, Carers and our wonderful students for the great effort in supporting our Conference this year. Firstly the Food Drive in June, then the miniVinnies School Sleep-Out, which raised $727 and your final effort – the food you have supplied for our Christmas Hampers. We will be able to assist many families with your generous gifts – “Well Done!”. We wish everyone a Holy and Happy Christmas and thank you once again for your support of our work throughout the year. God Bless S.V.D.P. Conference members How can I celebrate Advent at home? Prayer Corner – start a prayer corner or table in your home. Display some special things such as a bible, cross, family photo, rosary beads etc Buy some purple fabric to go under these items. Prayer tablecloth – buy a light coloured, plain table cloth or piece of fabric and write your prayers on the cloth with a marker. Watch the space fill up by Christmas time and it becomes a keepsake for your family. Make an Advent Wreath – in the wreath you will need three purple and one pink candle. You can also include a white candle in the middle to light on Christmas day. 2. In response to newspaper article: An article appeared in the Sunday Mail on 30th November concerning St Vincent de Paul. The members of the St Pius X Conference wish it to be known that all donations given to this Conference are used for the poor and disadvantaged in our area of the Parish. Not even the cost of a postage stamp is taken out of our funds. All costs are borne by the members themselves. We thank you for your generous support of our Conference in the past and hope you will continue to do so in the future. God Bless S.V.D.P. Conference members December, 2014. If you don’t have coloured candles, wrap coloured ribbon around white ones. Light one candle each Sunday in Advent. On the second Sunday, light two purple ones. On the third Sunday, light two purple and the pink one. On the fourth Sunday, light all previous ones plus the last purple one. On Christmas Day, light all the candles including the white one. Always pray as you go, give thanks to God for His many blessings. GENERAL NEWS GUIDANCE COUNSELLOR I am including two articles this week that I really want to share with you before we finish the school year: It’s a (Christmas) Wrap! The school year is coming to an end. Michael Grose asks you to consider how you will wind up the school year and plan to make 2015 your child’s best year ever. Preparing your Child for Returning to, or Starting St Pius X Primary School in 2015 Michael Grose suggests that the early days of primary school can be difficult as some children try to follow the rules and routine of school. Over the holiday period allow your children to have a mental health break from school and to recharge their batteries. Then as the holidays come to an end focus your child on getting ready for the year ahead. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and safe and relaxing holiday. LET US PRAY May the blessings of God be with you May the Christ Child light your way May the Holy Spirit guide you to keep you safe each day. Peace and blessing to you and your families over the holidays. Madonna APRE Nicole Rahaley (Guidance Counsellor) 3 RETURN ALL LIBRARY BOOKS! Please return ALL library books immediately.
