Newsletter No. 33
Dear Parents and Carers,
Last night was the annual P&F AGM meeting where
all positions were declared vacant.
Thank you to Jenny Fenner for so capably
fulfilling the role of Treasurer for the past
two years. Jenny’s attention to detail, thorough
work and wonderful commitment to the role have been
much appreciated.
Thank you to Lucy Troughton and Rebecca
Woolgar for fulfilling the role of Tuckshop
Convenors for this year. Lucy and Rebecca have
done an outstanding job of convening the tuckshop and
co-ordinating volunteers. Tuckshop is a highlight of
the week and we are grateful to have had Lucy and
Rebecca behind the scenes always making sure
everything runs smoothly.
Thank you to parents who have taken on roles in the
P&F Executive and committees for the coming year.
Your commitment to the roles is highly valued.
We still need a Treasurer(s)
and Tuckshop Convenor(s)
to fulfil these vital roles within the
school. Both roles can be carried out in a job-share
arrangement. If attending meetings is an issue, this
can also be worked around. If you are interested,
please contact either myself or one of the parents
listed.

funded by the P&F.
If you are interested in being on the Prep Play Space

Next Wednesday is our Term 4 Nude Food day.

What a great disco! The students had a wonderful
time and some would have been very tired the next
morning. Many thanks to the lots of parents who
volunteered, and to the fundraising committee for
their excellent organisation and smooth running of the
night.
The next morning, a group of 14 families arrived
early to join the working bee. Thank you to this
industrious group who toiled tirelessly to complete the
jobs – it looks great!

LET US PRAY
In the current climate of fear and suspicion in our
country and indeed the wider world, this is a time to
be careful about the words we use both as teachers
and parents about Muslims in our community. This is
not ignoring the threat that ISIS presents for the
people of Iraq and Syria, however, as Christian
Catholics we need to ensure that we choose love over
fear. Catholic social teaching provides a solid
foundation
for
our
values and beliefs. The
dignity of every person,
independent
of
ethnicity,
creed,
gender, sexuality, age
or
ability,
is
the
foundation of CST.

Second Vatican Council, Nostra Aetate 3,
October 28, 1965
“The Catholic Church rejects nothing of what is true and holy
in these religions. She has a high regard for the manner of life
and conduct, the precepts and doctrines which, although
differing in many ways from her own teaching, nevertheless
often reflect a ray of that truth which enlightens all men.”
AUTHOR VISIT
On Friday 24th
October
Richard Newsome will visit our
school to spend time with
children in Years 4, 5, 6 & 7.
Richard has written five books
in his ‘The Billionaire Series,’
which have been favourably
received and reviewed.
Pope Francis, Message to Muslims throughout the
world for the end of Ramadan, July 10, 2013
“What we are called to respect in each person is first of all his
life, his physical integrity, his dignity and the rights deriving
from that dignity, his reputation, his property, his ethnic and
cultural identity, his ideas and his political choices. We are
therefore called to think, speak and write respectfully of the
other, not only in his presence, but always and everywhere,
avoiding unfair criticism or defamation. Families, schools,
religious teaching and all forms of media have a role to play in
achieving this goal.”
Richard is a local author who was born in New Zealand
and came to Australia with his family when he was only
two. He grew up on the Gold Coast and has worked in
journalism here and overseas and has an economics
degree. Later when he was settled in Sydney with a
young family, he would tell his children stories at
bedtime. These stories would later provide the basis
for his ‘Billionaire Series.’ Richard now lives in Brisbane
and visits schools as well as literature festivals to talk
about his books.

Digital devices (eg: TV, smart phones etc.) and the
types of content available on them are becoming more
