We would like to welcome you to Southern Illinois. District 1 is honored to be hosting
the 23rd annual AFFI Honor Guard Convention. Each year, the Honor Guard Convention
gets bigger and better than the one before, and we hope to continue that tradition here
this year. Hosting the Honor Guard Convention presents a unique challenge for us here
in District 1. We are a geographically large district with several small locals. One
hundred eighty four miles separate our most distant locals, Alton and Metropolis, yet
members of District 1 have come together to put together another outstanding
convention. We have once again teamed up with the outstanding staff of the Gateway
Convention Center and the DoubleTree Hotel in Collinsville. It is our goal to “keep it
simple” in providing the AFFI Honor Guard with a memorable Convention and Induction
Ceremony that is worthwhile of our great organization. If you need anything at all
during your stay, please don’t hesitate to ask anyone from one of our District 1 Locals:

Saturday, January 24th 07:00-12:00.
Opening Ceremony: Honor Guard members, new inductees, families and guests are welcome and
encouraged to attend the Opening Ceremony. This is a time where the AFFI Honor Guard honors
our nation with the posting of the National Colors. Welcome speeches and information about this
year’s convention events will be given out. The opening ceremony will take place on Friday,
January 23rd at 1300 hours with the Unit meeting and other business to follow.
Hospitality Room: There will be hospitality rooms both evenings hosted by AFFI Honor Guard
District One. For Friday Night’s hospitality room there will be a $10 entry fee, payable at the door.
Induction Ceremony Dinner: (Dress uniform) The ceremony will be held at the Gateway
Convention Center. Ceremony doors will open at 1700 hours. Dinner will be served at 1800 with
the ceremony to follow. There will be assigned seating by District. You must have a "meal ticket"
to be served. Honor Guard members must have a “shot glass ticket" in order to receive your shot
glass for the ceremonial toast. A photographer will be available for formal pictures before and after
dinner – no pictures will be taken during dinner.
Maps: Maps for area shopping and sight-seeing will be provided. There is a bunch to do! You will
only be approximately 15 minutes from downtown St. Louis. You will also receive a visitor’s guide
from the Madison County Chamber of Commerce in your welcome packet.
Transportation: Rides will be provided from Thursday, January 22nd through Sunday, January
25th to and from the Alton train station. Please email: [email protected], or call
618 960-3696, and indicate how many people are traveling on the train along with your arrival time
so we can provide adequate transportation.
Guest Gift: Guests will receive a gift at registration. In addition, each $75 guest will also receive a
voucher for a wooden framed 8X10 photo. Photos will be taken during the induction ceremony
meal. The picture will be printed, framed and ready for pick up Sunday morning.
Breakfast Buffet: Breakfast will be served both Saturday and Sunday mornings for hotel guests at
both the host hotel and the spillover hotel. Each room will receive 2 breakfast tickets for each day at
their hotel.
How to Register for Convention: If you would like to pay with a credit card, you may register via
telephone Mondays through Thursday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. by calling
(217) 522-8201. If paying by check, please mail completed packets and payment to 927 S Second
Springfield, IL 62704. There will be NO EXECPTIONS made for any registration packets
received in the AFFI Office after January 9, 2015 at 4:00 p.m.
