The 14th Annual Winterlude Holiday Exhibition and Sale will take place at the
Monadnock Center for History and Culture (Peterborough Historical Society) at
19 Grove Street on Friday, December 5th from 3 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, December 6th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This event will feature five of New Hampshire’s
most distinctive artists: Rosemary Conroy, Mary Wood Cornog, Elaine Cummings, Eva-Lynn Loy, and Frankie Brackley Tolman. The exhibition is free and
refreshments will be served. On Friday night, there will be live music provided
by well-known Cape Breton-style fiddler, Harvey Tolman.
Rosemary Conroy’s colorful and contemporary acrylic paintings explore the
beauty of the wild and mild creatures that share this planet. Largely self-taught,
she believes that passion for the subject is just as important as any formal pedigree. Conroy exhibits her award-winning work throughout the state including
the Sharon Arts Gallery in Peterborough.
Mary Wood Cornog,
a resident of Nelson,
resumed painting after
a career as a teacher/
scholar of Greek, Latin,
and French. As a painter, she finds inspiration
in objects, ideas, and
experiences which she
renders in a variety of
techniques and a range
of styles from realistic to
abstract. Working chiefly
in acrylic, her paintings
are inflected with idiosyncrasies of emotion,
color, shape, and form
and can imply a subtly
Mary Wood Cornog
wry or humorous comment.
Elaine Cummings attended Rhode Island School of Design and has been working at making art all of
her life. In addition to being a fine-art painter, she has also worked as an illustrator and taught art classes to children. Her colorful, often whimsical, paintings
express her unique outlook on the joys of everyday
life. She has a passion for color and for cats, which
is reflected in her work.
Eva-Lynn Loy of Peterborough, a former expressive art therapist and teacher, works mainly in acrylics
and watercolor. Her artistic vision reflects the spirit
of her subject, as well as her own spirit. Loy’s work
was published in the Smoky Quartz Quarterly, first
online edition, and she has been interviewed for
www.blogtalkradio.com for “An Artist Speaks.” She
is a signature member of the Rhode Island Watercolor
Society and her work has appeared in national and
regional juried shows.
