www.wvartguild.org Please join us on Tuesday, February 3 , 2015 for a mixed media demonstration by Connie Tunick A Northwestern University graduate from Illinois, Connie is an educator and children’s art specialist with a teaching credential and MA degree in Education from California Lutheran University, Thousand Oaks, California. Prolific artist and Thousand Oaks’ Hillcrest Galleria Co-Curator, Connie Tunick’s art ranges from experimental paintings with collage and mixed media to printmaking. Tunick has worked as a professional artist for many years, and is well known in the art publishing world. She spends much of her time working and teaching at her industrial studio in Newbury Park. Connie has won numerous awards, and her work is in private and corporate collections worldwide. Some corporate commissions include Princess Cruise Lines; Marriott Marquis Hotel, New York City, and Crown Plaza Hotel, White Plains, New York; Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center, Thousand Oaks, and Clear Channel Communications, Burbank, California. Showing in galleries and participating in juried shows make for a busy and creative life. Connie states, “Art is my way of communicating, and through familiar imagery I am able to “speak” a common language with the viewer. Symbols that represent the common threads and relationships of our lives are prevalent in my art. I am a painter, a mixed media collage artist, and a printmaker. Color and texture are always at the heart of my work.” Visit Connie’s web site http://connietunick.com for more information. Seeking space for local artists to exhibit, Connie became a Charter Board Member of the Thousand Oaks Community Gallery. She belongs to the Thousand Oaks Art Association and Women Painters West, both juried art organizations. She is a Board Member of the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley. Thank you to all for contributing to another successful show. This show is a labor of love by members who volunteer their time, energy, expertise, and enthusiasm to set up and manage this fabulous exhibition of artwork. Thank you to those who have helped along the way. Our take-in team headed by Bob and Karen Phipps and their committee, and Lyn Conlan and John Conforti for recording the entries. Thank you to our outstanding hanging committee of volunteers who helped hang 158 pieces in the newly remodeled gallery. Our beautiful reception, hospitality chair Susie Ciufo and her wonderful team for setting up an exquisite spread of wine and hors d’oeuvres, we thank you. Frank Eber© And of course, we thank our two show chairs, Lee Zimmerman and Burt Misevic for their countless hours spent making our members show a success. We had two esteemed judges for our show-Frank Eber and Bob Privitt. Both were selected for their exceptional talent and skill. Frank Eber is a professional illustrator and a portrait artist. He is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, Transparent Watercolor Society of America, and Watercolor West. He teaches and conducts workshop internationally and all over our country. Bob Privitt has judged and juried many shows. We are glad to have him judge our Members’ Show once again. An emeritus professor of 40 years at Pepperdine University; he is a painter, sculpture, and an assemblage artist, whose work is shown nationally and locally. Mr. Privitt states, “Because of my experience and qualifications, I am open to a wide variety of styles, techniques, and media. In judging any show, I am most interested in content and craftsmanship. When I look at a work of art, I want to be able to see that the artist had something to say, and that they said it well, with passion, and intensity.” Our show runs through the month of January, so please stop by and see our WVAG members’ fine works. Online submission for the next WVAG Open Juried Show is now available. More information can be found on page 7 of our newsletter and on our website: www.wvartguild. org. Keep creating!
