“Year of Consecrated Life”
Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish • 2
Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Good Counsel,
For many of us, the spirit of Christmas at times is “hurry.” And
yet, the hour eventually comes when the rushing ends and the
race against the calendar mercifully comes to a close.
It is at this time that we truly recognize the spirit of Christmas. It
is not a matter of days or weeks, but of centuries; twenty of them
now since that holy night in Bethlehem. Regarded in this manner,
the pre-Christmas rush may do us a greater service than we realize. With all its worldly confusion, the Christmas rush helps us to
see by contrast, that Christmas itself is eternal.
Christmas is eternal because the gift of Christmas, Jesus Christ, is
eternal. Jesus is the Word of God, the Light and Life of the world.
It is through Jesus Christ, both fully God and fully human that we
as humans are made one and whole with God. The best way for us
as Christians to keep Christmas eternal is by imitating our Lord
by loving one another as our Lord loves us, and sustaining this
love all year long. When we love, console, forgive, and assist each
other and are generous with our goods to our parish and fellow
humans, we continue to give the gift of Christ and His love to
each other. This Christmas let us pray that we re-commit ourselves to eternally sharing the gift, our Lord, with all humanity.
At this time we invite all parishioners to break from the Christmas rush and to spiritually prepare for this holiest of seasons. We
look forward to sharing Christmas with you and thank you for
your generosity and support over the past year.
As we celebrate this holy season, let us also remember the sanctity of life and let us pray that people will turn away from evil and
turn to the Lord. Since the Roe vs. Wade decision, life has not
been treasured in this great country of ours. Let us make sure that
all of us, whether it be at our Christmas table, the workplace, or
the gym, stand up for life from the moment of conception to natural death.
On behalf of the OLGC staff, Fr. Ricardo, Deacon Ray, Deacon
Carlos, Sister Maria, Karen, Jennifer, Carol, Alicia, Norm & Lisa,
may your Christmas be filled with much happiness and your New
Year with much hope.
Merry Christmas and God bless,
Fr. Ricardo

Lucas 18:16
Children 4 - 9 years old, are invited to attend the
liturgy of the Word for Children offered at the 10 a.m.
Mass. It is a great way for children to grow closer to God
as they listen to the Gospel and relate to the Gospel message from their perspective.
The children are dismissed after the opening prayer.
Questions o wish to help please contact Kamie Kiss at 630730-1193.

Mary
Why do Catholics focus so much on Mary? Of all
the teachings of the Catholic Church, those that are
among the most misunderstood tend to center on Mary.
Now, learn what Catholics really believe about Mary,
and why. This episode is taken from Symbolon: The
Catholic Faith Explained, a stunning new 20-part DVD
series that gives adult Catholics what many never
received in childhood- a rich understanding of the
Catholic Faith. Some of the nation’s top teachers offer
a compelling explanation of the Bible, Jesus, the
Church, purgatory, the sacraments, the moral life...
This DVD is offered by Lighthouse Catholic Media
and is very reasonably priced as are all Lighthouse
CDs. It will be available at the next Resource Center

OLGC ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY
- Helping the needy within our Parish boundariesImagine how Mary felt at the birth of Jesus: excited, awed,
frightened. Deep faith was her light in the darkness, for Jesus
was born during the night of the year when darkness is the longest. In faith is found the real, lasting, and deep joy of Christmas.
In November, thanks to the OLGC parish community and our
faithful contributors, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able
to bring Christmas to the hearts of the poor, by assisting three
families, providing $397 for utility bills, furniture, and other
needs.
A special thank-you goes to Ald. Ted Mesiacos and to Ramon
Zepeda of Moonlake Landscaping for organizing a Thanksgiving
Dinner give-away to community members in need on November

May the joy and love of the Holy Family
fill your hearts with peace in this Holy
Season and throughout the year.
The following is a blessing which you and your
family may pray together when you set up your
manger scene in you home:
‘Lord, bless all who look upon this manger;
May it remind us of the humble birth of Jesus,
and raiser our thought to him,
who is God-with-us and Savior of all,
and who lives and reigns
forever and ever.’
