CLERGY HEALTH & RETIREMENT
December 21, 2014
This weekend we celebrate the FOURTH SUNDAY OF
ADVENT. As we near the end of the Advent Season
we get ready for the celebration of the Incarnation of
Christ. I know that you and I are busy and are
finding it hard to find time to sit and meditate. We
can take time before or after Mass, or on our
commute to work, or at some other point in time,
and just sit down, and think about how awesome
this Christmas Event is for all of us. Imagine in the
vast Universe, of the many galaxies and planets, God
chose the earth to take the form as a human being. I
think you and I forget the totality of this event, that
is, that God fully and completely revealed Himself by
taking on our humanness….by being part of
humanity...living in our amidst, not high above in
some cloud. I hope we also take an opportunity to
rediscover the dignity of the poverty in which the
infant baby was born. Let this Christmas, unlike any
other in the past, be for us a revelation of the Church
as a poor church as a CHURCH FOR THE POOR.
Honor God. Next time you see a homeless beggar on
the street or collecting money on a street corner take
the time to give him or her a few dollars, ask them
their name, and promise and deliver to them a
prayer.
The CHRISTMAS MASSES are: On the eve, 4:00pm
in the Main Church and 4:10pm in the Chapel;
6:00pm in the Main Church; on Christmas Day,
7:30am, 10:00am and 11:30am each in the Main
Church. There will be no 7:00pm Mass. I realize this
weekend we will have many visitors who will take our
regular seats and parking spots, and so I thank you
for the special hospitality which you will extend to
them. If you get in early to Mass and see a new face,
offer them a smile and a handshake, and if you’re an
extrovert tell them about the family atmosphere we
offer 52 weeks out of the year. Lastly, please be
careful in leaving the parking lot, a few extra minutes
might make another persons night extra special.
CLERGY HEALTH & RETIREMENT
COLLECTION
Every Christmas, Catholics across the Archdiocese of Boston
join together to honor and thank our priests. Your gift to the Clergy
Health and Retirement Trust helps to ensure the highest quality of care
and quality of life programs that provide for the health and well-being
of our 628 active and senior priests. Remember priests such as Father
Carmichael, Father Connolly, and Father Shea who have made a
meaningful difference in your life, and consider honoring them with a
generous gift to the collection this Christmas. Our priests have dedicated their lives to serving the Catholic faithful here in the Archdiocese of Boston. Now, it is our turn to serve them in their time of need.
Thank you for your prayers and generous support of our priests.
Next Weekend the Church celebrates the FEAST OF
THE HOLY FAMILY, and we will have the regular
schedule of Masses, however, we will not have a
Sunday Night 7:00pm Mass. The Sunday night Mass
at 7:00pm will resume the following weekend.
Thursday, January 1st, is a HOLY DAY OF
OBLIGATION, and the Church celebrates the FEAST
OF MARY, MOTHER OF GOD. We will have a Vigil
Mass on New Year’s Eve at 4:00pm, and on New
Year’s Day at 7:30am and 10:00am.
