56 selections for 56 dollars
named after the street on which we are located
and inspired by midtown’s historic associations
with creativity and collaboration, notably the
algonquin round table, we curated the following
fifty-six selections. these wines share a theme as
opposed to a region of origin or flavor profile.
they were all produced by growers who bucked
trends and challenged regional norms in their
quest for quality.
white
this section includes fifty-six wines that we believe
reflect either a creative and boundary-pushing
approach to winemaking or represent producers
who have impacted winemaking on a broader
scale. the wines are organized alphabetically by
producer. each bottle is available for fifty-six
dollars.

the drops of god
the drops of god is a japanese manga series
authored by brother and sister team yuko and
shin kibayashi (under their pseudonym “tadashi
agi”) and illustrated by shu okimoto. the plot
hinges upon a blind tasting competition between
two men vying for their father’s esteemed wine
collection and uses wine as a medium for selfdiscovery, friendship and love – while educating
its readers about wine along the way.
the drops of god launched in japan in 2004, and
it still runs to date. forty issues have been
published in asia and the forty-first hit stores in
japan in early 2014. twenty-nine installments
have been translated into french, and five have
been adapted to english.
in addition to highlighting individual wines at
various price points, the books touch on and
subtly explain larger and more complex themes.
vintage variation, correct wine service, blind
tasting as both a sensory experience and an
avenue to determining quality, and historical
appellations are all topics granted attention. the
series represents a different kind of wine book.
they are engaging, informative, gripping and
aspirational in a way that traditional wine books
are not.
in new york, the books are available at the
kitchen arts and letters bookstore. they are also
available online.
these notes are based upon an article that jordan salcito wrote
about the drops of god for the daily beast.
