MARRIAGE
Arrangements should be made with a priest as
soon as possible. One year prior to marriage
or as soon as Engagement is announced is

MINISTRY TO THE SICK
In the event of serious illness or when
someone is hospitalized, the parish office
should be notified. The Eucharist and the Sacrament of the
Sick will be celebrated with anyone requesting them.
Remember, the Hospital cannot notify us on their own.
YOUTH MINISTRY
The Youth Mass is at 9:30 AM on Sundays and “Get-A-Grip,”
grades 7-12, meets for Liturgy of the Word during the Mass
on the first Sunday of the month. Youth in grades 9-12 meet
at scheduled intervals.

CHOIR
STEWARDSHIP AND TITHING
We are fortunate enough to have a Parish Choir that has a full
multi-lingual repertoire, as well as a Junior Choir . The Choir
rehearses on Thursday at 7:30 PM, and the Junior Choir on
Thursday at 6:30 PM.
Instrumentalists are welcomed, either to play solo or with our
choir. A parish orchestra made up of children and adults
rehearses and performs several times during the year. For
more information, or to volunteer, please call John or Martha
Nowik after Mass or at the Parish Office.
Stewardship calls us to freely give of our time, talent, and
treasure for the good of our parish family and community.
God gives us everything! I give Him back my tithe. Tithing
is God’s plan to support His Church. Full tithing means 10%
of gross income to God – 5% for your parish church and 5 %
for other charities.
VOCATIONS
Those who are recognizing the call to the priesthood,
deaconate, or the religious life are invited to speak to a priest

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT
CHRISTMAS DAY
First Reading: II Samuel 7:1-5, 8b-12, 14a, 16
King David plans to build a temple to honor God. But God
tells Nathan the Prophet that instead he will give David
rest from his enemies, and ensure that both his house and
community will be protected forever.
First Reading: Isaiah 52:7-10
Isaiah rejoices that God is bringing his exiled people
home to Jerusalem. He calls out to the people to be
glad because God will restore Jerusalem.
Second Reading: Romans 16:25-27
In this letter of Paul to the Romans, he explains that the
gospel reveals the mystery that had been hidden for many
ages. Now it has been made known to all, so that they
may believe, obey, and give glory through Jesus Christ
forever.
Second Reading: Hebrews 1:1- 6
Paul explains to the Hebrews that although God had
spoken through the prophets, people could not
always completely understand the message. Now
God has spoken to us by sending Jesus, the son, a
reflection of God’s glory and forgiver of our sins.
Gospel: Luke 1:26-38
The Virgin Mary is approached by the angel Gabriel, who
tells her that she has been chosen to bear the Son of God.
Mary is first afraid, yet shows her unquestioning faith when
she simply says, “Let it be done to me as you say.”
Gospel: John 1:1-18
John describes how the Word came into the world in
the form of Jesus. All those who accept Jesus
become children of God by sharing in Jesus’ love.
No one has seen God, but through Jesus, God was
revealed to us.
A word about the end of Advent…
A word about Christmas…
Fourth Sunday of Advent
Advent comes to an end this weekend. And it has been
Advent’s purpose to encourage us to use our imagination as
we await Christ’s birth and anticipate his second coming. We
imagine what it was like to look forward to the Messiah.
The artist, Mercy Me, sings the song, “I can Only
Imagine,” in which he speaks about imagining just what it will
be like to be in the presence of the Lord Jesus in all his glory
in heaven. This is the perfect song for the Season of Advent
as it offers reflective thoughts on the promised second
coming of Jesus. Here are the words: “Surrounded by your
glory, what will my heart feel? Will I dance for you Jesus? Or
in awe of you be still? Will I stand in your presence? Or to
my knees will I fall? Will I sing hallelujah? Will I be able to
speak at all? I can only imagine. I can only imagine.”
Each year as we celebrate the Season of Advent, we
long for the coming of the Lord Jesus. We look forward to the
Feast of Christmas when the Son of God came to save us.
The church invites us to look forward to his final coming in
glory when all creation and all history will come to its
fulfillment in the very presence of God. It is the perfect time
to let the wondrous mystery of God’s love sink deeply into our
hearts. And so we might look again at the words of Mercy
Me.

Christmas
The great global battles that go on in a world of darkness also
go on in the hearts of each of us. On this Christmas we come
together as one family -some come always, some come
often, some come not so often, some come for the first time,
some may come for the last time. Whatever the case may be
we all are so wearied of the darkness around us and we are
longing for the light. How magnificent that we have come to
the right place to find it –that light. Here in the depth of the
night the light is shining. A Child is born. A Son is given. We
can carry the light with us as we leave the church. That light
can spread through the world through us. It can warm our
hearts this day and all the days of our lives.
Feel free, take a tour of the Church to visit the many
Manger Scenes; open your heart; pause for a moment and be
filled with the warmth of the Light; the beauty of the Light; the
joy of the Light and the peace of the Light. Take the Light
that is the Child, and be the light to others. What a night!!

The visit of Mary to her cousin offers us the first
account we have of evangelization, bringing the
Good News of Jesus following Gabriel’s visit in
Nazareth. The joy and family unity expressed in
what has become for us a prayerful dialogue,
sets the stage for the events of this week. We too
will spend time visiting and greeting family and
friends. May we also pray the Hail Mary with
special fervor this week, remembering the great
meeting of these holy women.

Sakrament Chrztu Świętego
Udzielany jest we wszystkie niedziele roku. Rodzice wraz
z chrzestnymi powinni uczestniczyć w nauce przed chrztem dziecka,
na którą należy uprzednio się umówić.

Duszpasterstwo chorych
Prosimy o powiadamianie parafii o tych, którzy z powodu wieku czy

Chcemy ich odwiedzać, zanosić komunię świętą, służyć spowiedzią,

WIGILIA - Środa, 24 grudnia
Dla niektórych ludzi Bóg, to tylko ten „wszechmogący", „Król
chwały", „pełen mocy Syn Boży"- i nic więcej. To prawda, że
Pismo święte mówi na wielu miejscach o wszechmocy Bożej, o
Jego wielkości i chwale. Ale obok tych określeń mamy inne
wypowiedzi. W początkowych stadiach objawienia wszechmoc
i potęga odróżniała Boga od słabych i śmiertelnych ludzi.
Potem jednak stało się coś niezwykłego, Bóg objawił swą moc
i wielkość w słabości: w ubogim narodzeniu Jezusa, w Jego
życiu i śmierci. Jeżeli chcemy pojąć tajemnicę Boga, musimy
gruntownie zmienić nasze wyobrażenia o potędze i wielkości;
musimy zmienić nasz sposób myślenia; przestać cenić
wszelkie stosowanie gwałtu, aby w bezsilności odkryć moc i
potęgę Boga;zobaczyć ją na przykład w małych czynach
miłości, jakich Bóg dokonywał i dokonuje przez Chrystusa.

Po zesłaniu Ducha Świętego przebywał w Efezie i tam zmarł ok.100 r.

Jasełka i Opłatek Parafialny
W niedzielę, 11 stycznia 2015 r, po mszy świętej o godz.
11:00, odbędzie się świąteczne spotkanie rodziny parafialnej i
gości. Wystawione przez dzieci „Jasełka” rozpoczną nasze
świętowanie. Po „Jasełkach” połamiemy się opłatkiem
i spotkamy się przy świątecznym stole.

najbliższym sąsiadom. Łącznie w całym świecie liczba
kart świątecznych dochodzi do miliardów. Nie mniej
powszechny jest zwyczaj obdarowywania się w święta
Bożego Narodzenia prezentami. Zwyczaj to bardzo
dawny, sięgający czasów starożytnych, który łączono z
nowym rokiem. Jest to piękny symbol zbratania i miłości.
Największy powód do radości mają w święta Bożego
Narodzenia dzieci. Chrystus bowiem zjawił się w postaci
dziecka. Dlatego przede wszystkim dzieci czekają na
podarki i prezenty gwiazdkowe.
Zwyczaje związane
ze świętami Narodzenia Pańskiego
Żłóbek.
Podanie głosi, że żłóbek Pana Jezusa został już w wieku
V przeniesiony z Betlejem do Rzymu i umieszczony w
bazylice Matki Bożej Większej. Na tę pamiątkę co roku
pasterkę odprawiano w Rzymie w tymże kościele przy
żłóbku Chrystusa. Najpierw we Włoszech w uroczystość
Bożego Narodzenia zaczęto wystawiać żłóbki na tle grot,
dołączając do figur św. Rodziny aniołów, pasterzy itp.
Jednak do rozpowszechnienia zwyczaju budowania
żłóbków i szopek najwięcej przyczynił się św. Franciszek
i jego synowie duchowni. Najbardziej znane są szopki:
toskańskie, sycylijskie i neapolitańskie. W Polsce głośne
są szopki krakowskie, prawdziwe arcydzieła sztuki
ludowej. Co roku urządza się ich wystawę na Rynku
Głównym w Krakowie przy pomniku Adama Mickiewicza.
Jasełka. Od żłóbków łatwo było przejść w średniowieczu
do przedstawień teatralnych: początkowo odprawianych
po kościołach w formie bardzo prostej jako ilustracja
tekstów ewangelicznych, aż po bogato rozbudowane
sceny teatralne. Misteria te cieszyły się zawsze wielkim
powodzeniem. W wieku XVIII rozpowszechnił się na
dworach zwyczaj urządzania jasełek kukiełkowych.
Składanie wizyt.
Zwyczajem świąt Bożego Narodzenia jest również
składanie sobie wzajemnie wizyt. Dawniej, gdy święta
trwały kilka dni, w pierwszym dniu dobry obyczaj nakazywał
spędzać je w zaciszu domowym wśród najbliższych.
Dopiero w drugie święto szło się w odwiedziny do krewnych
i przyjaciół.
Wigilia.
Przyjęła się w Polsce w wieku XVIII, stała się
powszechną tradycją w wieku XX. Stół zaścielał obrus
biały, przypominający ołtarz i pieluszki Pana, a pod nim
dawało się siano dla przypomnienia sianka, na którym
spoczywało Boże Dziecię. Jeśli ktoś z rodziny w tym
roku przeniósł się do wieczności, zostawiano i dla niego
pełne nakrycie. Wierzono bowiem, że w tajemnicy
świętych obcowania dusze naszych bliskich w tak
uroczystej chwili przeżywają radość Bożego Narodzenia
wraz z nami. Dawano również osobną zastawę dla
gościa, który w wieczór wigilijny mógł się przypadkowo
zjawić. Tego bowiem wieczoru nie mógł nikt być
samotny czy też głodny. Zwyczajem było również, że
cały dzień obowiązywał post ścisły. W czasie wigilii
dawano tylko potrawy postne, w liczbie nieparzystej, ale
tak różnorodne, by były wszystkie potrawy, jakie się
zwykło dawać w ciągu roku. Pan domu lub najstarszy
rozpoczynał wieczerzę modlitwą. Potem czytano opis
narodzenia Pańskiego z Ewangelii św. Łukasza (rozdz.
2). Następnie po krótkim przemówieniu każdy z
domowników brał opłatek do ręki i wspólnie składano
sobie życzenia. Z tej okazji także przepraszano się
wzajemnie i darowywano sobie urazy.
Kolędy.
Ten obyczaj wywodzi się od rzymskich kolęd
styczniowych, związanych ze świętem odradzającego
się słońca. W swej pierwotnej szacie było to życzenie
pomyślności w domu i w gospodarstwie. Nie ma narodu
katolickiego, który by nie miał własnych kolęd. Gdyby je
zebrać wszystkie w całości, powstałoby kilka tomów
pokaźnych o bardzo bogatej treści i melodii. Polska
należy do krajów, posiadających w swoim dorobku
kulturalnym i folklorystycznym ponad 500 kolęd, co
stanowi swoisty rekord.
Choinka.
Zwyczaj to dawny, pochodzący jeszcze z czasów
pogańskich a rozpowszechniony zwłaszcza wśród ludów
germańskich. W dniach przesilenia: zimy i nocy, kiedy to
dnie stawały się coraz dłuższe, zawieszano u sufitu
mieszkań gałązki: jemioły, jodły, świerku czy sosny jako
symbol zwycięstwa życia nad śmiercią, dnia nad nocą,
światła nad ciemnością. Kościół chętnie ten zwyczaj
przejął jako zapowiedź i znak, jako typ i figurę Jezusa
Chrystusa. On był dla rodzaju ludzkiego prawdziwym
rajskim drzewem żywota. Na drzewie krzyża dokonał On
zbawienia naszego. Na drzewku zawieszamy światła,
gdyż Chrystus tak często siebie nazywał światłem.
Zawieszamy na drzewku łakocie i ozdoby, aby w ten
sposób przypomnieć dobrodziejstwa odkupienia.
Zwyczaj ten rozpowszechnił się dzisiaj niemal po całym
świecie. W święta Bożego Narodzenia wystawia się
choinki w kościołach i w domach, na placach i w
wystawowych oknach.
Życzenia i podarki.
W wielu krajach jest to tak powszechny zwyczaj, że na
jednego mieszkańca przypada przeciętnie kilkanaście
kart świątecznych z życzeniami. Posyła się je nawet

Opłatek.
Opłatek jest symbolem Eucharystii, Chleba anielskiego,
który w Pasterce wszyscy przyjmują. Tak więc Chrystus
narodzony jednoczy wszystkich swoich wyznawców.
Opłatek, być może, pochodzi od eulogów pierwszych
wieków, czyli od chlebów błogosławionych w czasie
Mszy świętej, jak to jest w zwyczaju jeszcze dzisiaj u
prawosławnych. Po złożeniu sobie życzeń zabierają się
uczestnicy do uczty, po której udaje się każdy do
choinki, pod którą znajduje dla siebie prezent
gwiazdkowy. Ucztę kończą kolędy, które śpiewa się do
Pasterki. Dla podkreślenia, że zwierzęta były również
obecne przy Bożym Narodzeniu i spełniały swoją rolę,
karmiło się je opłatkiem kolorowym dla odróżnienia od
białego, którym dzielili się ludzie. Panowało również w
Polsce przekonanie, że zwierzęta w tę noc
błogosławioną raz w roku mają przywilej mówić do siebie
ludzką mową.

HOW TO CELEBRATE THE THREE KINGS
The Epiphany of the Lord is Sunday, January 4th. This is
also known as “The Feast of the Three Kings” because they
were the first folks outside of Bethlehem to see Jesus and
that is what the word “Epiphany” expresses in Greek. It is
the tradition to Bless the Home on that day or during the
Season and so we will Bless the “House of God” and mark
the door lintel, as we have in the past. The prayer and
chalk will be available for everyone to do the same at home
as a family activity.
My Christmas wish for you is that the song of the
Angels, “Glory to God and Peace to His People on Earth”
be ever more true in your home and in your heart. May
Jesus always be your joy, your hope and your song.
And may this Christmas and each day of the New Year
be directed by His guiding light and His hand of love!
CATECHIST MEETING
On Wednesday, January 7th at 6 PM the Religious
Education Catechists will have a meeting in the Parish
Center. Catechesis and procedures will be dealt with
during this meeting so it is important. Please make every
effort to attend.

Christmas Door Wreaths and Cemetery Blankets. The
funds realized from the sale of these items is being given to
the Church for Christmas.

The children will present their interpretation of the
Christmas Gospel on Wednesday, Christmas Eve, at the
beginning of the Christmas Eve Mass at 6PM. They have
been working very hard and their presentation, under the
direction of Karole Lechowski, looks to be a very heartwarming experience!

There will be a Mass of anticipation on Wednesday,
December 31st. at 5:30PM. On Thursday, January 1st there
will be a Mass in English at 9:30AM and in Polish at 11AM.
Please remember that this is a Holy Day of Obligation and we
are expected to attend Mass on this day.
NON-PERISHABLE FOOD COLLECTION
We are continuing to collect non-perishable foods. The food
will go to those in our Plainfield area and will be distributed
in conjunction with The Salvation Army here in Plainfield.
KOLENDA
Kolenda is a Polish Tradition but is observed by many. It is
the tradition of having a home blessed. Anyone who would
like to have their home blessed is welcome to fill out the
forms in the lobby of the church or be in touch with Fr. Chris.
NEW YEAR’S EVE HOLY HOUR AND MASS
On New Year’s Eve, there will once again be a Eucharistic
Holy Hour from 11 PM to Midnight followed by the First Mass
of the New Year at Midnight. What a magnificent way to bring
in the New Year: with Prayer and Thanksgiving in the
presence of the Blessed Sacrament.
PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
The Prayer Shawl Ministry is assisting the St. Ann Society
with gifts for the Mothers served by United Families here in
Plainfield. They have 36 scarves to offer for the Baby
Shower and will continue to work for the next two months
with items for the Park Hotel as well. The next meeting is
on Wednesday, January 21st at 10:30AM in the Parish
Center.

PRO-LIFE MASS AT CATHEDRAL
The Archdiocesan Respect Life Office and the Pro-Life
Commission will host a Pro-Life Mass at noon on Sunday,
January 18, 2015 at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred
Heart. January 22nd marks the 42nd anniversary of the
legalization of abortion in this country. By attending this
special Mass, those who wish to stand up for life but cannot
attend the March for Life in Washington, DC or the rally in
Trenton can still show their support and defend those who
cannot defend themselves.

ST. ANNE SOCIETY PARISH SERVICE PROJECT
Beginning January 10 -25 we will be accepting baby diapers,
wipes, onsies, and all sizes of baby sox for needy Plainfield
moms. On Sunday, January 25th following 9:30 Mass the St.
Anne Society will host a “Baby Shower” in the Parish Center
when all the items collected will be wrapped for distribution.
We invite all women to help with this service to support family
life and needs, the mission of the St. Anne Society. Beginning
January 10, please bring your articles to the Parish Office
where we will receive the items until January 25th.

EMMAUS BOOK CLUB
Looking ahead, the next meeting of the Emmaus Book Club
will be on Monday, January 26th at 7:00PM in the Rectory.
The first book for discussion will be The Light Between
Oceans by M.L. Stedman in which a young couple are
faced with a moral dilemma and gradually realize the
devastating impact their choices have on the lives of others.
The second book is Recipe for Joy, a Stepmom’s Story of
Finding Faith, Following Love, and Feeding Family by
Robin Davies. There are several copies of this book
available for borrowing from the Parish Office. Read one or
both of our selections and join us for an informal, friendly
discussion. All are welcome.
