MARRIAGE
Arrangements should be made with a priest as
soon as possible. One year prior to marriage
or as soon as Engagement is announced is

MINISTRY TO THE SICK
In the event of serious illness or when
someone is hospitalized, the parish office
should be notified. The Eucharist and the Sacrament of the
Sick will be celebrated with anyone requesting them.
Remember, the Hospital cannot notify us on their own.
YOUTH MINISTRY
The Youth Mass is at 9:30 AM on Sundays and “Get-A-Grip,”
grades 7-12, meets for Liturgy of the Word during the Mass
on the first Sunday of the month. Youth in grades 9-12 meet
at scheduled intervals.

CHOIR
STEWARDSHIP AND TITHING
We are fortunate enough to have a Parish Choir that has a full
multi-lingual repertoire, as well as a Junior Choir . The Choir
rehearses on Thursday at 7:30 PM, and the Junior Choir on
Wednesday at 7:40 PM., following Religious Education Class.
Instrumentalists are welcomed, either to play solo or with our
choir. A parish orchestra made up of children and adults
rehearses and performs several times during the year. For
more information, or to volunteer, please call John or Martha
Nowik after Mass or at the Parish Office.
Stewardship calls us to freely give of our time, talent, and
treasure for the good of our parish family and community.
God gives us everything! I give Him back my tithe. Tithing
is God’s plan to support His Church. Full tithing means 10%
of gross income to God – 5% for your parish church and 5 %
for other charities.

TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading: Isaiah 25:6-10a
This passage describes the new Jerusalem as a heavenly
banquet on the mountain with the Lord God wiping away all
tears.
Second Reading: Philippians 4:12-14, 19-20
In simple, direct words, Paul thanks the Philippians for
alleviating his hardships. He stresses, though, that he is as
accustomed to poverty as to abundance and finds all his
strength in Christ.
Gospel: Matthew 22:1-14
Once more speaking to the chief priests and the elders,
Jesus relates the parable of the wedding banquet. A King,
preparing a wedding banquet for his son, summons all the
invited guests. When, after several invitations, no guests
arrive, the King commands his servants to “go out into the
byroads and invite anyone you come upon.” Again, Jesus
warns the elders, “the invited are many, the elect are few.”

Katechizacja
Rodzice dzieci w wieku szkolnym zobowiązani są do posyłania ich na
katechizację w ciągu roku szkolnego. Istnieje też możliwość nauki dla

Duszpasterstwo chorych
Prosimy o powiadamianie parafii o tych, którzy z powodu wieku czy

szpitalu i nie mogą uczestniczyć w liturgii Mszy Świętej w kościele.

Mówimy, że życie codzienne jest szare. Szarość nie jest
kolorem i dlatego nie może być znakiem święta. Coraz trudniej
przychodzi ludziom naprawdę, z sercem i radością, obchodzić
uroczystości oraz święta. Do tego potrzeba kilku rzeczy,
których nie da się kupić na rynku: fantazji, wolności, odwagi, a
przede wszystkim wspólnej radości. Ubóstwo nie jest tu
przeszkodą, może nią być natomiast bogactwo.
Ludzie młodzi tęsknią za świętem, weselem, radością
- i mają po tysiąckroć rację. Pragną, aby Kościół był miejscem
widocznej wspólnoty, gotowy dzielić ją ze wszystkimi. Niech
będzie biedny i bez władzy zewnętrznej, ale otwarty dla
wszystkich. To byłoby wielkim świętem, wielką ucztą weselną.
Na taką ucztę Bóg już dawno wystosował zaproszenie do
wszystkich. Czy je podejmiemy? Jeżeli nie teraz, to kiedy?

Wstąpił do zakonu kapucynów w Warszawie; założył wiele
zgromadzeń zakonnych, przede wszystkim niehabitowych.

Wsp mnienie św. Kaliksta I, papieża i męczennika (+223)
Wspomnienie św. Małgorzaty Marii Alacoque (1657-1690)
Była wizytką; doznawszy wielu objawień, przyczyniła się do rozwoju
kultu Serca Jezusowego.

Wspomnienie św. Teresy z Avila, karmelitanka, doktor Kościoła,
(1515-1582) Żyła w Hiszpanii; pozostawiła cenne dzieła ascetychne,
przyczyniła się do reformy zakonu karmelitanek.

Wspomnienie św. Jadwigi Śląskiej (1180-1234)
Pochodziła z Bawarii; była żoną Henryka Brodatego. Miała pięcioro
dzieci. Zasłynęła z wielkiej dobroci dla biednych. Ostatnie lata spędziła
w klasztorze w Trzebnicy. Jest patronką Śląska.

Wspomnienie św. Ignacego Antiocheńskiego
Grek z pochodzenia; był uczniem św. Jana Ewangelisty.
Został biskupem w Antiochi i pełnił ten urząd przez 40 lat.
Zginął śmiercią męczeńską ok. 107 r. wydany na pożarcie przez dzikie
zwierzęta.
18 października - Sobota
Święto św. Łukasza Ewangelisty
Z zawodu był lekarzem. Ok. 50 roku poznał św. Pawła Apostoła. Dzięki
niemu przyjął chrześcijaństwo. Zmarł jako 84-letni starzec. Legendy
podają, że był też malarzem i miał namalować obraz MB
Częstochowskiej. Jest patronem lekarzy i malarzy.

Synod o rodzinie zbiera się w październiku, stąd wierni zachęcani są do
odmawiania różańca w intencji prac synodalnych.
III Nadzwyczajne Zgromadzenie Synodu Biskupów
Uroczystą Mszą św., sprawowaną w bazylice watykańskiej, rozpoczęło
się 5 października III nadzwyczajne zgromadzenie ogólne Synodu
Biskupów nt. „Wyzwań duszpasterskich dla rodziny w kontekście
nowej ewangelizacji”. Wraz z Franciszkiem koncelebrowało ją 191
ojców synodalnych, w tym wielu biskupów i księży katolickich
Kościołów wschodnich. Prace tego zgromadzenia potrwają do 19 bm.
Na początku Eucharystii papież zatrzymał się przy relikwiach św.
Teresy od Dzieciątka Jezus oraz jej rodziców, błogosławionych Zelii i
Ludwika Martinów.W homilii Ojciec Święty, komentując dzisiejsze
czytania mszalne, zaznaczył, że przedstawiona w nich Winnica
Pańska jest symbolem „marzenia” Boga, a w istocie chodzi o lud, który
Pan „zasadził i uprawia z miłością cierpliwą i wierną, aby stał się ludem
świętym, ludem przynoszącym wiele dobrych owoców
Wypominki
Pośrodku kościoła wystawiona jest Księga Wypominkowa, do
której można wpisywać imiona zmarłych, których chcemy
polecić modlitwie Kościoła. W Dzień Zaduszny, 2 listopada, na
mszy świętej o godz. 12:30 modlić się będziemy w intencji
zmarłych a szczególnie tych spośród naszych bliskich, którzy
odeszli w minionym roku. Ich imiona prosimy podać Księdzu.
Uwaga – Ważna Wiadomość
W środę, 22 października, o godz. 12:00 w południe, nasza wspaniała
organistka, Pani Martha Nowik, jako zproszony gość, wystąpi w
organizowanej w katedrze w Newark serii koncertów dla
zaprezentowania światowej klasy organów. Koncerty są bezpłatne.
Byłoby miło, gdybyśmy swą obecnością okazali naszą sypattię i
wdzięczność naszej organistce.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION FOR PRE-K & K
Pre-K and Kindergarten classes have begun and they
will be working on two special projects and they will
need two shoe boxes and two egg cartons brought to
class. A special veteran sheet has been given to the
students and it should be returned by October 15th so
the students can complete their projects in class.
REL. ED. VETERANS PROJECT
This is an opportunity for students to write and share about
a family member, friend or neighbor who is a veteran. This
was mentioned in the August Family letter and the students
will be coming home with information they have learned and
will be asking for help in filling out information about their
special veteran/hero. All sheets must be in by October 29th.
There are several different sheets that can be used to share
information. You can go to our website www.bestchurch.net
and under Religious Education click on the Veteran’s Day
Page, browse through and select the one you would like to
use. All the information will be displayed during the
Veteran’s Program on November 9th sponsored by the
Knights of Columbus. Information for that event can be

your children, you would like to offer a little help in
preparing some projects by cutting, tracing, pasting, or
stamping, stop in the Religious Education Office where a
few parents have already gathered to help prepare for the

EMMAUS BOOK CLUB
The Book Club is in the process of selecting a new book
and scheduling the next meeting.
PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
The Prayer Shawl Group began their parish year with a
Social Tea where they discussed their future projects and
enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of Pat Zimmerman who
hosted the Tea at her home. Present projects were shown
and they decided to make their projects for the next month
using pink yarn to celebrate breast cancer awareness. If
you can knit or crochet or would like to learn, the next
meeting of the Prayer Shawl Ministry is on Wednesday,
October 29th at 10:30AM in the Parish Center, or you can
call the office for details and information.
“BESTCHURCH SENIORS”
Chair Yoga has begun and will meet the following
Wednesdays in the Library: Oct. 15, 22, and Nov. 5. Those
who have registered are advised to wear suitable clothing.
Fr. Frank will speak at our next meeting and offer another
presentation in our series, “Art Treasures of the Church.”

ST. ANNE SOCIETY NEWS
Ladies Fellowship Morning to be held on Sunday,
November 16th following the 9:30 Mass. You will have the
opportunity to have a little coffee and meet some of the
women of the parish and see more of what we do.
HONORING OUR VETS…”LEST WE FORGET”
On Sunday, November 9th at the 12:30 Mass we will pay
tribute to all veterans who are actively serving or have
served our country. There will be a special “THANK YOU
PROGRAM” from 1-4PM immediately following Mass in the
cafeteria. Everyone is invited to this program. Tickets for
the program are $5 per person in advance –No tickets will
be sold at the door.
We will be serving coffee, tea, soda, water, hot dogs and
chips, and dessert. If you plan to attend the program in the
cafeteria it is necessary to pre-register. Pre-registration is
necessary to insure adequate seating and preparations.
For those who have a particular veteran to honor, the
Knights of Columbus will be giving special certificates in
honor of his or her service. If you have a veteran in your
family, living or deceased, whom you would like honored,
you will need to supply the following information as soon as
possible: 1. branch of service; 2. first and last name;
and 3. years served, in order for certificates to be made
on time for the event. You may sign up in the open area of
the Church or call the parish office at 908-756-3393.

Breakfast last Sunday was a great success due to the
efforts of Karole Lechowski. Several of the members baked
to add to the breakfast. Bishop Cruz was well received and
everyone appeared to enjoy themselves.

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available on a regular
basis on Saturdays at 5PM and on Sunday mornings after
the 8AM, 9:30AM, and 11AM Masses. The Sacrament is
also available after weekday Masses by simply asking.
JOIN THE CHOIR
Our Parish Choir has begun the Parish Year and will be
regularly rehearsing on Thursdays at 7:30PM in Church.

will sponsor a Free Throw Contest on Sunday, November
16th after the 9:30 Mass in the gym. Those who are 6 years
old and up can participate –this includes teens, Moms and
Dads!! Prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be awarded in
all categories and certificates of participation will be given to
all. Simply come to the gym after Mass that day or preregister in the open area of the Church.
MARTHA NOWIK TO OFFER ORGAN CONCERT
AT THE CATHEDRAL BASILICA
On Wednesday, October 22nd, as part of the Cathedral
Concert Series, our very own Martha Nowik will be the
guest organist for the 12 noon Concert on the magnificent
world-class pipe organ. The Concert is free-of-charge,
followed by an optional tour of the Cathedral.
SAINT BARTHOLOMEW ACADEMY
The Academy is sponsoring an Open House on
Sunday, October 19th from 1 – 3 PM. This offers anyone
considering the Academy a perfect opportunity to visit
and learn about all that is offered.
Former First Lady Laura Bush once said, “Libraries allow
children to ask questions about the world and find the
answers.” The Academy library –which is stocked with
thousands of titles including all of the Newbury and
Caldecott award-winning books and under the care of Mrs.
Marianne Luongo – is filled with opportunities for the

The support group for those caring for elderly or chronically

Freshman Foundations Program Information
Night…this program is designed to help academically
struggling students and those with IEP or ISP learning
classifications build a strong skills foundation so they can
succeed in high school and continue on to college. Only 30
students will be accepted to this Program.

The Ruth and Bill Sullivan Memorial Blood Drive is scheduled

The Archdiocese takes very seriously any and all allegations of
sexual misconduct by members of the clergy, Religious and lay
staff of the Archdiocese. We encourage anyone with
knowledge of an act of sexual misconduct to inform us so that
we may take appropriate action to protect others and provide

Who has the tragic title “the man of sorrows?”
Jesus, of course. Some dictionaries will even tell
you this. It is an appropriate title. He was a man of
many sorrows. He knew what it was to be poor, to
be lonely, to be hated, to be persecuted, to be
forsaken. He knew what it was to die on a cross. It
is doubtful that any human life ever experienced
the tragic side of life more acutely than he did.
But, accurate as this is, it is only a partial view of
Jesus.
Jesus might, with equal accuracy, be
considered to be a man of joy. He rejoiced in the
world of nature, finding more beauty in wild
flowers than in the splendid garments of kings. He
had a heart for little children, and they for him.
This tells us that he smiled easily and often.
Children do not cozy up to people who never smile.
Nor do such people pay much attention to children,
being too absorbed in themselves. It is also worth
noting that Jesus mingled freely and frequently
with unsavory companions. This choice of
company suggests a zest for life. The fast and
unpredictable crowd doesn’t welcome frowning
and dismal saints. Jesus’ critics called him a
glutton and a drunkard. He was neither, but the
accusation is evidence that he was life-affirming
and accepting of a wide variety of people.
This festive spirit of Jesus is highlighted in
this weekend’s Gospel lesson. He told a story
about the kingdom of God. To Jesus being a part
of the kingdom of God means living under divine
authority and doing life God’s way. He compared
this to a royal wedding feast, as something to be
celebrated and enjoyed. His contemporaries
tended not to see the religious life in this way.
They saw it as a duty to be carried out. This is the
way religion is commonly perceived today. It is an
obligation, something we ought to do. Jesus had a
different perspective. He not only lived according
to the will of God, but considered it a privilege to
do so. It was like being invited to a joyful and royal
banquet. Maybe the secret of joy is to live for
something besides oneself.
Maybe a joyful attitude can come from
commitment to God; maybe joy can come from
other people, seeing them as children of God.
Really, though, the secret of joy must be to put
God first, last, and always. And it is to put the
needs of others ahead of our own.
So, just how joyful are you??
