It’s hard to believe that 2014 is coming to an end. I
can’t believe how fast it has gone by. It must mean
that we are having a great time!! I can’t help but be thankful
for all that we have here in our Park Village Community. As
always our blessings are abundant and friendships and families
are important.
My wish for the Park Village staff and the families of our
community is that each of you enjoy the holiday season. Take
time to really enjoy a break from the hustle and bustle of the
daily grind and treasure the present moment of family traditions. Thank you for being such a wonderful staff and community to work with.
I wish you all a joyful holiday and a Happy New Year!!!

THANK YOU! Thank You! THANK YOU!
By Cyndy Payne, PV PTA President
The Adopt-a-Family program
was a success once again. Even with the late notice our
community rallied together and donated several bags of holiday gifts and more than
$1,000 worth of gift cards. These generous offerings will be a real blessing to the
families in needed throughout the Poway Unified School district.
May your family be blessed as well this season. Thank you again for all you do for our school, community,
and our district as a whole.
PV Families Rock!!!
With every PTA unit in the Palomar Council participating in this year’s Reflections Program, that meant there were 130 entries at
the Primary level and 260 entries in the Intermediate. Those entries, plus hundreds of others at the Middle and High School categories, brought the total to 551 entries in Palomar Council! Of these submissions, only 10 in each category advanced to the Ninth District. Congratulations to all of our students who participated in Reflections this year – you are already making the world a better
place.

Here is a list of flyers currently posted on the Peachjar website. New flyers are in red. Click on Peachjar and it will take you to the
Peachjar site where you can select a flyer and view more information. You may access flyers on Peachjar at any time as a guest.
Once you register for free as a member, you will receive new flyer notifications via email and/
or smartphone, depending on your desired settings. To post Enrichment flyers on Peachjar, contact [email protected]. To post flyers for Our School, Parent Organizations, PUSD events
and free Community events, please email Sandi Oshiro at [email protected] and attach

Science Field Day Is Back!!
By Kendal Texeira & Shannon Nellies, Science Field Day Coordinators
Our PV Science Field Day team did really well last year (again!) and we are excited to have another
group of kids enjoy a day all about science challenges and fun events! Please come to our Informational Meeting on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 6:30 pm (in D107) to learn more about
this exciting competition and talk to students who participated last year.
The Science Field Day competition will be held in Lakeside on Saturday, May 9, and involves 50+
teams of 4th and 5th graders from all over the county. Details can be found at http://
www.sdcoe.net/lls/ccr/Pages/elementary-science-field-day.aspx. Interested students/parents
should review both this link and the PV Science Field Day Application prior to the January 8 Info
Meeting. Most participants will be placed in two events. All PV team members must be able to meet
and work outside of school for 2-4 hours per week from February through May, and their parents
will be required to coach one event. While student preference is considered, event assignments
must first maximize overall participation and minimize scheduling conflicts. If there are more applications than space available, alternates will be designated and a wait list formed.
Questions? Please contact Kendal Texeira ([email protected]) or Shannon Nellies
([email protected])
Applications and permission slips for the PV Science Field Day team are due by Thursday, January
15 at 3 PM (both forms need to be printed, filled out and turned into the office by 1/15 at 3 PM).

The goal of Science Field Day is to have the students decide how to work with their team and
to do the majority of the work with guidance and supervision from the coaches. It can be
helpful if the coach has some background knowledge in these areas.
Would you, as a coach, like to share any expertise or areas of knowledge that may help the

Getting Ready for Year-End Giving?
Happy Holidays from the Park Village PTA! We are so thankful for all of the support we’ve received to
help us continue our mission. The holiday season is upon us, and as we plan our celebrations and
enjoy visits with family and friends, some may also be deciding where to make their year-end
donations.
With many schools cutting programs due to budget concerns, we believe providing our students with
superior educational opportunities is one of the most important factors in creating tomorrow’s leaders.
The purpose of our PTA is to support our children and our school. We believe that it is important to
help enhance the learning environment of our children and are working hard to ensure that this
happens. PTA fundraising supports field trip transportation, assemblies, classroom materials, school
site maintenance/beautification, parent education, Reflections, Family Heritage Night, Penguin Rock,
and much, much more!
Please consider making a year-end donation to Park Village PTA. Your donation is 100% tax
deductible, and if your employer offers company match, your donation doubles! Thank you for your
continued support of Park Village PTA in making a difference for our Penguins!
Please return this completed form with your donation check and return it to the PTA mailbox inside the front gates of the
school. Make checks payable to “Park Village PTA.”
